A consistent tempo is key to a successful golf swing, it doesn't have to be pro speed to play scratch or a decent round.

"Never up, never in" always struck me as an idiotic statement. As you'll naturally have a "circle" of dispersion (wave function/spatial probability distribution), to average less strokes you need the centre of that circle to be on the hole, not passed it. Sure, you may hole a bit less (not even sure, empirically) but you'll average significantly less... Tour pros seem to have discovered that, lately. Probably through decade as Scott Fawcet talks about that about as passionately as me!

I always thought the "Keep the lead heel planted on the backswing" advice, despite it being commonly accepted, is awful. It creates twisting on the spine and lead side in general (knee, hip, etc.) which is destructive to the body. I believe letting the lead heel float an inch or two helps add power, and yes, accuracy, without sacrificing the body.

Best advice for me has been to have a memory like a gold fish. If I hit that bad shot, need to let it go and focus on what I have. Don't try to make up the bad shot. Accept the mistake and accept the score on that hole will not be so good, but dont let it be terrible.

You can never swing the club too slow - for amateurs , the slower and softer you swing , the better you will play

@@wickedsmartgolf - in golf , nothing is written in stone - what works for you will not necessarily work for another - every golfer needs to find his own swing - that includes mechanics rhythm and tempo etc - generally for the average amateur golfer , the slower he swings the club , the better he is going to strike the ball - when the average golfer wants to swing like Bryson or Rory , that’s when the trouble starts - don’t look for distance , distance will find you

@@wickedsmartgolf - I hear you - for me , 3:1 tempo drill don’t work - as an amateur golfer in my fifties , playing golf for 40 yrs , I make my backswing long and slow , and I feel as if my downswing is the same speed as my backswing - the slower and more effortless I feel , the better I strike the ball

lol all I said is 3:1 tempo, in general most everyday golfers are wayyyyy to slow. Slower tempo like Freddy or Colin M can work but need perfect mechanics… which most don’t have. Getting 3:1 tempo makes it easier to sequence + add speed

Freddie’s tempo is 3.1 and it’s a lot quicker than it looks when it’s actually timed.
