The reason crafting in this game is difficult is not because people dont understand the concepts ... they dont know what options there actually are and how to get them. For example meta crafts like "prefixes can not be changed" need to be found in endgame ... new players maybe dont even know they have the option to use that. They might not know there is a beast that 6links an item or splits it. They might not know that you can just reroll resistances with harvest. There are often multiple ways how to get a certain item made but each route might have significantly different costs and you need to know which operations you want to do to an item later on the line so that you know which affixes you make onto the item first. For this you also need to know how rare affixes are so that you can first tackle the harder ones so that you dont brick your item with a 0.01% RNG roll in the last crafting step. This is why I kind of dont like these simple "here is how you craft an item" where people literally read out to you what the basic currency items do like thats not the thing people struggle with most of them can read. Things like "If you want to craft supression boots you ned a at least partial dex base and start with the supression roll since its hard to get and there are not essences etc for it" thats the kind of info most people need because where in the game does it tell you that armor boots cant roll supression natively?

I appreciate this succinct argument against the "it's so simple" spam from people like quon85. The points you bring up are true not just for crafting, but for everything. For example, "pick a notable and work towards it" is great advice for the passive skill tree if you know what every notable is and which ones are good for your future build 50 hours from now, which also requires you to know which build you are going to run and to read every single passive skill ahead of time so that you even know what they are. Even if you had the inclination to plan out the passives ahead of time as a new player, how could you? You have to know what spells are in the game, which ones are good, what are the ascensions, what are the synergies, what are the support gems, etc. The game doesn't even tell you that "more" is multiplicative and "increased" is additive. The skills don't even have a tooltip that you can hover over. A new player, even an ARPG veteran, cannot even begin to comprehend this system in a reasonable amount of time. The response is always "just play un-optimally, you don't have to use an OP build guide. Just choose whatever and play. Blah blah blah" This stands in direct contradiction to the game itself, since PoE1 doesn't allow respecs and will cause you to get hard stuck at level 30 if you make your own build as a new player. At that point, you either keep restarting your entire character at level 30, over and over, for hundreds of hours until you understand the entire passive tree and skill gem system well enough to get past the first wall, or you just play someone else's guide and PoE turns into an idle game. And then it only gets more complex in the endgame. I hope PoE 2 at least allows a casual player to beat the campaign with their own build, as long as it's halfway decent. I still remember playing PoE in like 2013 as an ranger and suddenly dying in one hit to every enemy around level 30. Suddenly I couldn't even damage them either, and there was no obvious way to scale my DPS. Even if I upgraded my gear, I'd lose all my skills, and I couldn't respect my passives. I didn't even try playing the game for another 6 years after that.
@RuecianGrayАй бұрын
The game really needs a currency compendium (in-game) that lets players see all of the crafting currency in the game and where to get it. Otherwise, crafting just seems too difficult to even start to learn because you are aware that you don't know what you don't know and therefore won't bother to really craft at all.

@Skyass2 ай бұрын
A lot of cooked Quin takes in this video. 1. Cluster Jewels are awesome. Another way to customize and min-max your character. I played a lot of different builds completing all challenges with or without them. 2. Meta crafting is one of the most fun things to do in the game. Every league I'm looking forward to craft my own gear and try to be as smart as possible about it. Showing people all possible affixes in the game takes the mystery out of the game and U WANT to feel like you know something about the game a lot of other people don't know because you invested time into it and they didn't. 3. Atlas passive trees are a great way to customize into gameplay mechanics you enjoy doing or you want to give a shot. 4. The memory game is a very unique and cool boss mechanic. If you fail at it -> Get good and find ways to remember. There are a lot of tricks you can use to remember things in life. It's just a giga beta move to want game developers to remove activities out of the game because you suck at it. 5. Mageblood is an item that can solve a lot of things in your build which enables a wider variety of builds in general. If anything make Mageblood more rare but don't remove it from the game. It's a big ticket item you can grind for. Path of Exile is a game about grinding and also a game where grinding is not annoying because you can customize your method how to grind in so many different ways.

Confused about the dislike for the atlas passive tree. If you could only spec into 1 mechanic at a time, I would agree. With the ability to fine tune your strategy to include additional mechanics like beyond, influence choices, amount of juice desired, etc, I think the atlas passive fits perfectly into POEs choose your adventure theme
@Sylvine2 ай бұрын
The trouble is with the exponential effects of stacking map mods + atlas + scarabs. The difference between running a random harvest that pops up in Your map vs a fully juiced harvest is the difference between 200 juice and 30 000 juice. At that point, it's just never worth it to do content that You are not specced for. So what do You do when You enjoy 5 different mechanics? Obviously, You can tinker with Your atlas, so that 3 pages have everything covered. Except that fully optimizing strategies often requires the full atlas. Taking Harvest again just because I run a lot of it, You want all map modifier effect for pack size, most of the harvest nodes, blue altars - that's the minimum. You probably also want shrines because mapping generally benefits greatly from shrines. Not much room left over for other content. And then You STILL run into the issue that a lot of content is meh without scarabs. So let's say You like harvest and expedition. Great! Those work quite well together, close to each other on atlas, both want pack size, similar mechanics. You still can't run them at once, because scarabs. So You run into the issue where You open a map with harvest scarabs and atlas, run into expedition that You're already specced for, but it still makes more sense to skip the expedition entirely. 'cause rewards suck without scarabs. You skip it, feels bad because You like the content. You do it, feels bad because the rewards are shit. And then You run into, say, a Ritual, which You also enjoy, but hey, it's on the opposite side of the atlas, not specced for it AND no scarabs, so definitely a colossal waste of time. And there goes another mechanic that You enjoy but are heavily incentivized to skip if You randomly come across it. In the end, though, I think that's just PoE being PoE, not necessarily the fault of the atlas tree. It's the constant competition between need for efficiency and having fun.
@_unknown_guy2 ай бұрын
@@Sylvine I don't think it's even trouble. It gives sense of progression at the start besides map tiers, later in the league it works as way to react to market demands so adds decision making. Add scarabs and that is another level of progression. Overall it's a good system. If you look only from endgame perspective, then yes, it might feel bad to skip content just because it not the optimal way but what then would be the other option, everything is average? We can even block content to benefit from it, could argue there is mechanic around not feeling bad for skipping.
@Sylvine2 ай бұрын
@@_unknown_guy Blocking content means allocating points, making it more optimal to just not engage with it instead. I'm not saying it's necessarily a bad system, and I'm not sure what the alternative would look like. Free or considerably cheaper atlas respecs would be an idea. You can swap favored maps on the fly, no reason not to do that with atlas skills to be honest. No atlas tree and just scarabs would also work, removing at least one force multiplier, but I agree that progressing the atlas with the tree feels rewarding (at least the first few times, after that it's just kinda tedious tbh), so not a solution I'd be in favour of.
@William-t4kАй бұрын
@@Sylvine well dev's seem to agree with you bc the POE2 previews fix your complaint almost exactly. However, I like that you have to make a choice to farm a specific thing, and I also appreciate that I don't feel FOMO for skipping the non-targeted mechanics due to their much lower output. It's also not that way across the board. For example, harvest feels really bad in T16 when not targeted with scarabs and atlas, but in a juiced T17, the harvest mobs actually drop a good amount of general loot and are worth doing regardless of harvest loot quantity. Betrayal is a good example of one that feels worth engaging with regardless of map juice or atlas.

What I kinda like is I farm and get a variety of good stuff like a crafting base or a rare card drop or a divine orb not just one exact unique weapon hopefully with the right stat like farming would be in other games. Also as long as there are broken builds I don't care much about clustering them up. That's for the rich 1% an additional incentive. If I have to for a notable I roll them myself whatever.
