Casting a vote for the baseball hall of fame ballot demands high respect, knowledge, and compassion for the game, and there is no one that opposes those values more than Tony Massarotti.

You’re too kind. Clowns like Massarotti love to hear themselves talk, but their opinions are clueless. Baseball deserves better. I’m glad an informed fan such as yourself made such a clear, concise counterpoint to Massarotti’s years of yammering and ego-tripping. Well done.

I find it hilarious that he wouldn't vote for Beltre because he never won an MVP, but then went on to vote for Manny Ramirez, a player who also never won an MVP. Not to mention that he also voted for 2 players who got caught using steroids several times, but wouldn't vote for a player who he thinks might have taken steroids. The level of hypocrisy is insane

It should be voted by ex ballplayers and coaches. Not writers. You wouldn't allow ballplayers to vote for the best sportswriters.

There should be a mandate to vote for 10 players to get in every year. Look what happened to 2013 and 2021? The former was reserved for deceased Hall of Famers and the latter was COVID-19.

A good start would be term limits or holding an active role. You would be surprised how many active voters have not written about baseball in years

I'm from Rhode Island, an hour south of Boston. I listen to the Sports Hub whenever I can. I've heard Mazz say, several times, that he doesn't follow or pay attention to baseball anymore for various reasons, particularly that it's not as entertaining or marketed as well as the NBA. I had no idea he had a HOF Vote till 2 weeks ago. The other 2 guys, Michael Felger and "Big" Jim Murray, idk where their support for his view comes from. Perhaps they don't pay attention to baseball either, especially since the Red Sox have been in last place in 3 of the last 4 seasons. The fact he alluded to Beltre being juiced in a negative way while voting for 2 admitted PED users is hysterical. The show is good, but him having a vote for the Hall is laughable

Agree he does NOT deserve to get to vote on baseball HOF. I like listening to the negativity of F&M sometimes because sometimes there is power in thinking such negatively. But other times, I wish these guys would inhale whippets while driving.

Good video. People that are interested should read about the HOF voting process and who is entitled to vote. It's definitely an imperfect system. They have made some changes in the composition of the voters, which I think is an improvement, but I'd still like to see a pooled group of writers and players do the voting.

I think Felger's take that Craig Biggio isn't worthy of the HOF is just as egregious. Hmm, no one's heard of 98.5 the Sports Hub? It's the most popular radio station in one of America's most iconic cities and F&M's one of the highest rated shows on talk radio.

Hall of fame vote should have three components. A fan vote, with the totals adjusted to be fair to players in small markets. A writers group, structured so that reporters with beef with individual players or franchises are sanctioned for obvious fuckery. A players group, no rookies. They police themselves. No steroid users unless we open a Hall Of Shame. Pete Rose should be in. I don’t believe for a minute he would compromise his team to win a bet. Which means he gambled. That’s it. Love him or hate him, you know he belongs. Compare his punishment to others. You can’t. That is all. For now.

Another question: have you played Mvp Baseball 2004 & 2005 ? Best baseball games ever made !!! Would be cool to see what your chosen roster would be from players of those years. It's a time capsule , in how the attributes for players are based on their performance in the season prior..
@walkoffstudios

I've heard of MVP 2005 of course but I've actually never played it, I didn't get into baseball until 2006/2007. My first baseball video game was the show 2007. I remember in the show 2007 always raking with the Mets big three in Delgado, Beltran, and Wright

You should lose the ability to vote over stuff like this. Also put more youtubers and podcasters in the voting process. Imna firm believer in you have 10 votes use them even if its to prolong a players time on the ballot to get some more considerations in year 4-10.

He is correct on Helton and Wagner. Helton's numbers are inflated because of playing in Colorado. His away OPS is around .200 below his home number. On Wagner, closers should not be in the hall. Getting three outs up by three runs is nothing great. Also, Wagner's playoff numbers are terrible.
@walkoffstudios

Helton's road OPS is better than the career OPS of several HOFs, including Al Kaline, Billy Williams, Orlando Cepeda, Gil Hodges, and many others.

To be fair that does make sense on Beltre. To be a hall of famer you are the best of the best. You have many top years, great career numbers. Beltre had to or three good years. That is it. When you play 21 years it is easy to put up high career numbers. And his defense was not that great. Sure, 5 gold gloves, Rolen has 8. Is saw both play, Rolen was far better.
@walkoffstudios

Gold gloves don't always correlate to great defense. Derek Jeter won 5 and he was not a great defender.

No offense, but Adrian Beltre in the Hall of Fame kind of waters down the criteria of the Hall of Fame. He never won a World Series, never won a MVP, doesn't take home any MLB All Time Records. Look at someone who also never won a world series but will get into Cooperstown, Ichiro. Ichiro has several MLB records and a MVP despite never winning the World Series. There has to be some threshold like that
@walkoffstudios
@walkoffstudios 7 ай бұрын
I don't believe those three criteria are great arguments for consideration into the HOF. Many players had incredible careers without winning winning an MVP, WS, or holding all time record. Plus, there's a decent amount of players who did win an MVP and WS who I don't believe should be in.
@brendanpirando2379

@@walkoffstudiosyes many players had great careers whose memories will live on to those who watch those players, it doesn't mean they're Hall of Fame talent. I saw Sammy Sosa play against the Mets in Shea Stadium. Watching Sammy Sosa play was a great memory of mine, but he's never going to be a Hall of Famer
@walkoffstudios
@walkoffstudios 7 ай бұрын
@@brendanpirando2379 That could be said about any player really. I once saw Oliver Perez strike out 12 batters in a game at Shea stadium and there's a 99% chance he'll receive zero HOF votes. I believe one day we'll see Sosa, Bonds, Clemens, etc inducted into he hall, just not for several decades.

Do you think Tony Gwynn waters down the Hall? He has no MVPs, no rings, no records.
@ron88303
@ron88303 2 ай бұрын
@@badgoogle4509 MVP's are voted on and thus are subject to quite a bit of subjectivity. Rings are team, rather than individual, accomplishments. Gwynn led the NL in batting average eight different years, and his offensive metrics are comparable to many HOF players. I don't think he waters the Hall down, although of course it's just my opinion.
