Ouchie! Glad he's being taken care of. I never knew they could grow it back after they completely lost the shell- I'm happy to have learned that it can, in fact, come back with the right care.

Please keep us updated on this poor guys condition, Open Gate. I know he will need stall rest until he grows a new hoof, and I just pray that no infection sets in. Bit with Renato and Open Gate caring for him, I know you will do everything possible to help this horse. But, please, keep us updated on how he is doing. My prayers are with Open Gate for his recovery. Love from your friend, the Retired Paramedic and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn. 💖 🇨🇦🙏

Many, MANY years ago I actually witnessed a horse that a) had been abandoned in a field, b) lost BOTH front hooves a long time BEFORE some friends had found him, c) had been walking on his front legs MINUS the hooves which ultimately resulted in the horse having to be euthanized on the spot. ANYONE who allows major injuries like THIS to occur should have to experience WALKING WITHOUT THEIR FEET FOR A MONTH!!😡😡😠😠😡😠😡😠😡😠😡

Trimming the heel down is what usually causes the casing to do this. Never have the farrier trim the foot as low as 30degrees the trim should look maybe 18 degrees so there is enough space at the heel for the frog to do its job
@deanwitt79036 ай бұрын
I’ve seen worse so I’ll tell the story . I’m a qualified farrier and a client had a horse lying down in the paddock , I asked is there something wrong with that horse ? The owner told me the cover came off the horse and the strap wrapped around the coronary band and the horse lost the hoof through restricted circulation. She said she had the hoof in the tack shed . I had a look and to my horror she had the hoof , the pedal bone and short pattern bone in a bag . The stupid woman thought the horse would heel itself even though the veterinarian had said the animal needs to be euthanised. Next time I went to shoe her other horses that poor animal was still alive . I left that place and called animal welfare who came out with a veterinarian and euthanised the horse . The woman owner held herself in high regard in the horse world and I had no problem telling the truth on her horsemanship .

This is so sad, I always thought a horse had to be put down when loosing the hoof. My old horse has a hole in the hoof, but it grows down and it it is not getting bigger luckly. She had a hoof abscess in spring and due to the wet dressing the hoof had gotten torn. I am not sure if it is better to leave it open or close it, the ferrier wanted to close it with artificial horn but the paste was dryed out.

The horses in a lot a lot of pain and yes, it’s a tragic, but that her for not grow back it will not if I had the horse. I don’t want to say this but he’s in so much pain. There’s actually nothing you can do but keep wrapping it and keep wrapping it and keep wrapping it, but it looks to me with the whole leg swollen but there’s a lot of infection going on. You will probably have to make a decision for that horse and it doesn’t look too good. All we can do is pray and keep them as comfortable as we can with pain medicine.😢

How on earth did such thing happen in the first place??
@antoniajuel9582 Жыл бұрын
The horse had a tendon injury, causing the tendon on the back of the hoof leg to be too short. I think this injury also caused inflammation and swelling, which is never good for a hoof. When inflamed, the laminae that hold the hoof capsule to the corium (the inside "meaty" part of the hoof) may be affected and lose strength, causing the hoof capsule to move. This separation in the laminae is usually seen in cases of feed-induced laminitis, but can also occur from other reasons. In normal cases, the weight of the horse causes the bone structure inside the corium to sink down inside the capsule, causing severe pain because parts are now bearing weight that aren't meant to. In this case, the horse was shod with a special shoe with an extra long toe part (you can see it where they hold the hoof capsule up and then place it on the ground). The special shoe was supposed to force the horse's heel down on the ground, something he wouldn't/couldn't do because the tendon was too short. By forcing the heel down, the shoe was supposed to stretch the tendon and help the horse recover from his injury. Now, instead, because of the inflammation inside the hoof, the laminae completely gave out, and the capsule, forced down by the long-toed shoe, came loose from the corium.

Is it not time to let this horse move on, with this kind of injurie?
@antoniajuel9582 Жыл бұрын
@@julnil In Sweden it would definitely be euthanised. It takes a year for a hoof to grow back, 1 cm a month, and the horse will be in constant pain for the duration, potentially creating stress injuries to its other hind leg as that leg now bears the whole weight of the horse's rear part. It wouldn't be considered humane under Swedish animal protection laws to keep the horse alive under such circumstances.

@user-mk8ft8ig9y during the healing process the horse will be compensating on his other legs. If you look in the video, he is already not able to extend the injured foot forward. Tendons will be compromised and he will soon become so lame and in pain. That hoof will take over a year to completely gow back.

This horse should have been given the last act of kindness you can give your horse, and been put down. The amount of pain you are putting this horse through isnt okay.😢
