Bongiorno! Thanks everyone for the kind comments, I honestly didn't expect this lap to get published! 🙈 Thanks again for the spin Misha, you'll have to passenger with me next time so I can make YOU shit your pants coming out of Mutkurve! 🤣 So let me clear up a few things; alot of people saying the car has a non-standard ecu which is correct - it has been reflashed & rev limiter is 8600 instead of 8200. Vtech comes in at 3600 (not 4200) however you can nurse it up as far as 5400 without engaging as long as you don't put the engine under more than 30% load... which never hapens 😅 I was wrecked tired after driving over 1000km from Ireland and nervous my car would fall apart in Misha's hands so completely forgot about the ECU... and to mention it has an aftermarket lsd 🤦 You can tell my brain isn't working as I keep mentioning my shitty Pipercross air filter like I'm sponsored by them or something 😂 In my defence; I drove a bone stock FN2 yesterday & it was just as fast as mine - my ECU doesn't bring any extra power, just lower Vtech crossover & an extra 400 revs at the top. Also these cars came standard with an LSD from 2010 (& 2008 Championship White) - not that it made much of a difference at the Nordschleife IMO (being such a fast track) & as the car has less than 200NM torque along with super sticky tyres. So all in all I think this is still an honest representation of a "stock" FN2! 😊 The floor mats were left in my hotel room for added lightness 😁 The fender was not found - some say it's still flying through the air at Schwedenkreuz RIP - I actually lost the drivers side in 2022, they're just not made to stay on the car 🤷‍♂️ Hopefully I'll be back next year with more power & less grippy tyres, we'll let the old girl dance a little more!💃🕺 Just need for both me & GoPro to get our shit together first 🤣 Oh and.... LUIMNEACH ABÚ!!!! 🇳🇬

The FN2 is so underrated, a few breathing mods and suspension tweaks make them seriously fun to drive. It’s just a shame they get such a bad rap because of Jeremy Clarkson’s review and people like to jump on the hate bandwagon without actually even driving one.

An old fella at my works had one. Had it nearly new. Chatting away one day I asked him what he thought of VTEC in the FN2 as I had an EP3 before. He asked what VTEC was. After explaining he said oh I don’t like to rev my cars I change up at 4-5000 it damages the engine to go higher 😂 He drove it 10 miles to work every day at 50 ,all dual carriageway!

This one has tuned ECU, seems like the current owner does not know it ;) Stock values for VTEC are 5400-8200, this opens up at 4200 and goes all the way up to 8600. I also have a tuned FN2, stock values was 5400-8200 and now mine is 4200-8600.

My longlife dream was to own a Type R of any sort. Thankfully, that dream has come true recently and I got myself a FN2 Type R. I use it as a daily and in all honesty, I think it's miles better than the EP3. I had the opportunity to test drive an EP3 and the FN2 still impressed me way more than the EP3. Sure, it may be more rigid and a bit heavier but there's nothing that a few upgrades won't do to it. I plan on installing an intake, an LSD and some nice coilovers, as well as way nicer tires than the ones it currently has. The car has been nothing short of amazing and I've had the chance to take it out for quite some adventures. I can personally say that it doesn't deserve the bad press that it got when it first came out because it's a fantastic piece of machinery at its finest.

Misha should drive an FD2 Type R at some point. The FD2R is a Japan & Malaysia exclusive model made during the same time span as the FN2. The FD2R was actually built in Japan (other than the FN2, EP3,...) and is pretty track focused. i did a few laps with mine on the Nordschleife and can't wait to be back. there is btw. also the Mugen RR, an even more hardcore version of the FD2R. great video as always 😊.

The Top Gear video about this car was some straight up misinformation, rear torsion bars don't cause understeer! At the time, the TG guys really did not like Honda. They complained about the S2000 being popular at the time, and about the NSX-R being too meticulous in weight reduction.

I had a highly modified FN2 track car, full bolt ons, DC5 cams, Quaife LSD, 5.3 final drive, 6 pot Calipers on the front, stripped, bucket seats etc, was mapped to 241bhp. You’d be lying to yourself if you thought it was slow.

What does changing the final drive achieve? I have one but an in two minds to go the full hog with modifications! I have air intake mapped and bigger exhaust with half balance shaft delete and it’s made a massive difference already

@@benireland5700 brings the RPM up higher, so you have better acceleration. For example, 60mph in 4th gear being around 3.5k, depending on the final drive that can be higher, so you have more usable power through the power band. Top speed will be lowered, but acceleration is improved depending on what FD you get. The shorter FD you go, the worse it will be on motorways cruising, 5.3 in the FN2 with the UK gearing is a happy medium. I run a 5.1 in my K24 DC5 with JDM gears but that’s the shortest I’d go in that, the torque from the K24 helps additionally

It’s the usual Clarkson TG review that doomed them. They’re definitely a nicer daily than an EP3 and almost as good to drive. Should probably have given it a bit more power to make up for the extra weight and the not as sophisticated rear suspension, but you can get them cheap now and you still have that lovely K20 engine. I have a Nighthawk Black GT facelift model and I’m enjoying it!

I've had quite a few hondas: 2 mb6 1.8 civics, 3 jdm dc2 type rs ( 1 turbo charged ) 2 dc5s ( 1 supercharged ) and for the last 5+ years a supercharged fn2 type . And honestly I don't understand the stick it gets its brilliant! I almost bought an fd2 which is lovely...but for HALF the price I bought a supercharged fn2 with lower miles and spent the rest of the money on: new clutch ( oem ) mfactory race pack lsd, 6 pot bbk, coilovers,new wheels, rear anti roll bar and had wheels refurbished and gp kit front and rear. Since then it's been wrapped twice and had new wheels and carbon bits added and new exhaust and induction kit along with probably things I'm missing, but honestly I love it! There's quite a few people that don't rate them but good tyres, an lsd and rear anti roll bar transform them. The more people Diss them just keeps them cheap for people to pick up

These arches are a bloody nightmare. I had my drivers side unclip itself and wildly slap against the side window at around 120mph while still retained by the rearmost screws. Scared the shit out of me and chipoed the door paint.

Also it's worth mentioning the car featured in this video does have some sort of remap as standard the VTEC engages at 5300rpm, this one is around 4500, and also this one revs slightly higher, standard fuel cut is 8300rpm

With 230HP, LSD and Brembo brakes from factory the FN2 would be a perfect Type R. It shares the same chassis with the FK2R and that includes the rear axle 🤷‍♂️

The FD2 & various Mugen edition FN2s hit all those KPIs... the stock 2007 - 2009 FN2s were the product of cost cutting measures and will forever be remembered as an infereior let-down in relation to their preceding models... a few simple bolt ons & geometry mods turn them into weapons that are still easy to live with 15 years later & feel much more modern than an EP3 (I daily my car btw). This car should have been legendary as the swansong for a 100hp per litre 9000rpm atmosphere destroying masterpiece of an NA engine... it's more likely to be remembered as a fugly spaceship with cheap as chips suspension 😂

Mate had ep3, little rocket, my mrs had the fn2, if it had the lsd, it would have been perfect. Pipercross really opened up the intake noises. Brilliant engine. Vtec was longer in the fn2 engine.

Our setup is different but much the same I'd say. My Pipercross is just a cone filter pointing at the bulkhead, the standard airbox with a performance panel filter would be better I reckon. Your 70mm exhaust should be 2.75" in old money, mine is 2.25" (not 2.5" as I stated 🙈), cat-back also. Do you have a lot of exhaust drone at motorway speeds? I love the sound of mine at idle (quiet), on full chat & on downshifts (burbles) but I HATE the sound at 120-130km/h on the motorway & also under load at low revs (i.e. going up a hill or pinning the throttle in a cruising gear)

miss my ek9 had a b20vtec wasn't super fast. but 220whp in a hatch is fun. car had 300killos on it when sold and still is kicking around town. then build had about 40k on it as the old b16 needed a refresh so i bought a cheap b20 non vtec outta crv sent the old b16a head to get completely refreshed. whole rebuild was about 3 grand candian back in 2014. went from 154whp to 219whp. SIR b16 trans worked well with it. but i grew up and now have a stage 2 gti tcr.

I had a 2011 with the factory LSD. It was great. The hate is largely unfounded. The steering is much better than EP3 and I’d take this over the turbo ones. For the money they’re great.

Awesome as always, but I'm not sure what the title implies 😁 People already mix up FN2 with FK2. They are totally different cars though. The FK2 is the most raw experience of the K20C engined cars, while the FN2 was a slight backstep from EP3. Perhaps the point of the title is something totally different but FK2 is definitely not the worst Type R and I've driven most of the line-up 😆

My only gripe with the fn2 is the solid rear axle and the rev hang. I had a championship white edition and I loved it.

@zaidonthemoon144 I went from an ep3 to an fn2 and back to an ep3. What I can say is that the ep3 is raw and the fn2 is more refined. If the fn2 didn't have that solid rear axle, it would be so stiff to drive.

The problem with these cars is a certain tv journalist slated the car in a review and all his fanboys followed. Personally I'd listen to someone who can actually push a car 10/10ths over a silly motoring journalist. No idea how people can prefer the EP3 over an FN2, the steering in the EP3 is simply awful
