“Hardest Level” doesn’t mean “Worst Level.” World 2-3 in the original is the worst one because it’s just a mad dash to the pole while Nintendo uses the entirety of the NES’s storage of Cheep Cheeps to try to kill you. I’ve lost because of bouncing off of one, not going the right distance with my jump, and fell down a hole. I hate it.

Phantom Maximum I would say worst is Star World 3. It was as if Nintendo ran out of level ideas and said “let’s put the goal right at the start and make the player fly up for the secret exit. Level done”. That was just lazy.

The Wii version is a horizontal platforming level where Bowser chases you. It’s not really the same thing as the vertical climb in the 3DS game.

I ADORED it when I played it. The Galaxy games have literally been my life, and when I saw that level and how it was the opening sequence I thought you'd never go back to but everyone was there almost like the ending cutscene, even Bill Board (my guy!) I was nonstop geeking out at all the references and just...everything. I don't know how many times I replayed it. I was like 12 and it was years after I had gotten both Galaxy games and played through them simultaneously. I had beaten the perfect run in 2 and done everything years earlier except finish the first game as Luigi. I was already a pro, but I had no idea the GFG existed, NO idea, and so when I got that unexpected message after beating the game as Luigi in like 2015 (I didn't think anything would happen), as a die-hard fan of the series for life...well, you can imagine my reaction lol.

I just don't like the idea that the whole game is just a downhill ride after you beat Bowser. Just getting those last few stars that you never got around to. And when you finally get them all, do you get one final, climactic test of your skills? No, it's the easiest star in the game. Which ultimately means that your experience peaked halfway through. I think they could have fixed this by _opening_ with the Star Festival for the nostalgia trip, then had that lead into a longer, more difficult platforming challenge.

I guess your point about merely finding those last few stars you missed after beating Bowser had never really applied to me, since I always fight him after getting 60 stars, which means I always have 60 more to collect plus fighting him again so for me it's more like playing another full round of the game with different stars each time.

Ngl I played the game last year so my opinion is not influenced by nostalgia and I found it to be hard and controls to be so inaccurate. Some levels were fun but others were just boring, repetitive, laborious or some others u had no idea what to do. Super mario galaxy has more gameplay and environment ideas. Mario Sunshine is a fun game but can be extremely frustrating or boring though

rounos03 Galaxy has less memorable levels and less exploration due to the small size of the planets and how barren they feel, the gravity aspect is less interesting than the addition of the Fludd, the soundtrack isn’t as good as Sunshine’s, and neither is the hub world. Being difficult isn’t a complaint, and I don’t know what levels you didn’t know what to do on. Sunshine has flaws, but it’s certainly more interesting than Galaxy. My opinion on Galaxy isn’t influenced by nostalgia.

@@FrogChoir Well then it is pretty much subjective on my end. I found that they were a broader choice of environment and gameplay styles. I remember the levels were the one in the hotel where u need a certain fruit for the yoshi to kill the boos in the attic, finding the fruit was without the use of the internet dumb hard, the other was in the harbor u need to find a certain fruit for the yoshi but impossible to carry it across a pole, i haven't played it for a while so i would have to go back to it to find where i was stuck. The beginning is great though but after a while playing the game gets boring in my opinion.

I would've guessed he would've said the 8 coin river of death because of how tedious it is to even get to the level but nope. The manta ray is one of the better bosses in the game in my opinion because not only do you have to worry about it splitting into more manta rays, you also have to avoid the electric goop at the same time which can make it tense at times. That's way better than the final battle with Bowser

The manta ray mission suck IMO. The main reasons are 1 you have to clean the whole level if you even want a chance of not dying in the fight 2 the manta ray multiplies every time you hit it causing the entire level to flood with tiny manta rays causing you to get hit a lot 3 every time you get hit you bounce back causing you to possibly bump into another one 4 did I forget to mention that the manta rays spread electric goo when moving around 5 when you die you have to clean the level and start the fight ALL OVER AGAIN But sprawling savanna is a bad level. Honestly, for Sunshine, I'd say the Secret of the Village Underside from Pianta Village. Not only it's a pain to get into the level, you have to be in precise spots for the Chuckers to chuck you to the platforms. I can't tell you the many times younger me has died in that accursed level...

Secret of the Village Underside is up there, as is the Pachinco Machine, though I think the Yoshi Lily Pad Ride is the worst. Mostly because of how time consuming it is to get there. It also doesn't help that you're riding a degrading lily pad. Also there's a warp pipe back to Delfino Plaza which I to this day don't see any purpose to other than just being a jerk move on the developer's part. If we're only talking main levels though it's either Secret of the Village Underside or the Goopy Inferno.

Personally I dislike all underwater levels, dire dire docks included, since they are always so slow. Especially dire dire docks and its insanely slow poles. It's so frustrating when you fall off the poles and have to swim all the way back to the switch, get back up, and ride those poles again just to get one red coin that you missed. For something like rainbow ride, I understand where you are getting at, however, you can do so many carpetless tricks, especially when going up the pirate ship, and it's quite fun. Personally, my least favorite is the metal cap level. It's so short and you barely do any platforming.

While I agree with a few of your choices (I agree with pretty much all of the 3D mario ones) There are definitely a few I would change. Super Mario Bros 3 has a ton of bad levels from a level design point of view, like even worse than the level you said. Some of them straight up look like a level an inexperienced mario Maker player made. What I’d choose for the worst level in smb3 is definitely the world 7 fortress. It’s by far the most confusing and ridiculous mario level I’ve ever played. It’s much more of a puzzle solving level (and a bad one at that) in a game about platforming. The solution is very absurd and in my opinion it’s the worst mario level ever created, to this day it’s the only one I’ve had to look up how to solve. There are some more bad ones in smb3 but that’s the only one I could remember by name. I disagree with a few more of your choices like in NSMBW and NSMB2 but I can’t really think of one to replace them but those levels would definitely not be the worst IMO. Even though I did disagree a bit I really enjoyed the video and it was a fun idea!!

I agree with what you said about smb3. I vividly remember that ice world level where you have to carry a shell up an off camera section while flying, because... you can’t hold the controller that way? Like, my wrists hurt after beating it. Still a great games to come back to, though.

Eh I'm just weird I guess. I grew up on my Wii and still have it today. Even playing the games as a younger kid I never had a problem with the motion and ive always thought that it was cool and innovative. I guess since it was my first game console (not including the PS2 I had for three days until it broke) it felt natural and I had nothing to compare it to. Hammer Bro’s skill shot in Mario Strikers Charged is one of the best in the game, and his Hammer Throw ability in Mario Super Sluggers makes catching the ball easier. - I actually thought the Grand Finale Galaxy was great! When I played through the entire game twice, collected everything, it served a nice idea to go right back where all the effort began, and the picture you get at the end of the level on the Wii Messageboard only makes it more memorable and sweet for me, at least. If you ask me, I think the worst level was the Sand Spiral Galaxy. It starts off interestingly by making you choose either a Boo Mushroom or a Bee Mushroom, but that only matters for half the level, whereas the other half has you run across a fast spinning orbital ring around a moon-like ball, where the star is. I honestly find this one very uninspired and boring, especially since you can cheese out practically the entire second part by long jumping. - I genuinely think Super Mario Galaxy 2's worst level, is Stone Cyclone Galaxy. I absolutely HATED this as a kid, and I still hate the idea that I can't stand in the same place for even a second before I get squashed. I still get anxiety when I hear the overly fast underground theme that plays in this level. In SMG1 it was never even hard, not even the fast-foe comet. But this, was just incredibly insane. Also, I actually LOVED Rolling Masterpiece Galaxy! It felt so colorful and vibrant, and I could play that level over and over again. I am usually not a fan of motion controls at all, but I actually thought the ball was fun to control. - For me the Sprawling Savannah level was actually really cool. I loved being in such an open and unusual level in comparison to others, which were more linear. It felt nice to see a level that has you scrambling one open area for the necessary collectibles, instead of coming across different points where you need to do a precise jump or play with a certain character or power-up. I think the worst level in the game, I don't remember the name, was a revisit to the Piranha Creeper Creek level, where everything is immensely dark and hard to see. You need to use a Fire Flower to light some torches - god knows where they are - and all the while you can only kill, like, two of the Piranha Creepers that get in your way extremely much, and there's no denying that I think this was almost as hard as Champion's Road for me. - Also for Mario Odyssey, dishonorable mention for the Deep Forest area in the Wooded Kingdom. I hate the constant threat of a possible T-Rex running after you out of nowhere, and the lack of a map makes the area terrible to navigate. Let alone, it's home to the worst moon in the game, where you're literally stuck for 5 minutes spitting coins at a sprout in the water. Good luck finding the creature you need to do that, because it's invisible in a place you can hardly navigate.
