Yeah, I clicked on the vid thinking "There's no way she's as bad as ML Potemkin", and I was right, Mariah actually has strengths which is more than what ML Pot can claim. That being said, while ML is far from a low power level game, HftF is just on another level entirely, so a character that would be decent to good in most fighting games is just utter bottom tier trash here.

And Jotaro didn't exactly "lose" to Bug Eaten, as he was intentionally acting as bait to reveal its hiding spot so Josuke could snipe it. Sending Josuke out as bait would be stupid, since he's their healer and his Stand power doesn't work on himself. Jotaro will be fine if he takes a hit, Josuke won't.

I love this character so much. Honestly the worst part is that she's also an effective zoner when your opponent doesn't know what they're doing, so you can't even just play her for fun to sandbag vs your friends trying to learn the game, because they'll stop having fun really quickly.

She's so horrible and I always recommend everyone to never play her yet she's still the most fun I've had playing this game. Her biggest weaknesses come from the lack of safe confirms, everything taking such a long time that sometimes she's punishable even on hit after you cancel into a special. Very unfavorable trades, barely any good buttons, lackluster Guard Cancel and there being crazy enough people that are able to react to her overheads, it's always such an uphill struggle to win anything with her, but once you do it feels so unimaginably good. Put her kit into any other fighting game and she'd be a nightmare to go against, but instead Capcom put her into a game with literal gods that abuse the system so much she can hardly do anything. Also, you can cut down the cable with pretty much any Stand On normal (Khan is programmed to be able to cut it with any button), even from the ground. Only people who don't know the matchup will ever get punished for trying to cut it down and as special it's really the only thing that can give Mariah any advantage. Mariah and both Hols are the only characters without a Stand type attack so they're unable to interrupt it in any way. DIO and Devo may be the hardest characters to master execution wise, but she's definitely the hardest to win with.

The fact her specials take some time to come out is the worst part since people can use the light punch and stop them if they manage to dash close to you, and one of her supers is very close range, besides she not being really good at close range, meanwhile the other takes what seems to be a whole second to start... and if the other player is Hol Horse, Avdol or Kakyoin and use their super a few frames AFTER YOU, IT COUNTERS MARIAH'S SUPER. So yeah, she sucks, specially to battle other people, but is very fun to play

With a miserable movement option and borderline worst hurtbox in the game, he's comparable to Mariah's fate with his only good matchup was against Noel. Kokonoe is the entire opposite side of the same coin. Kokonoe was straight-up Kakyoin and Petshopt tier when she first came out and even with several nerfs to Centralfiction, Kokonoe is still considered a Top 8 to Top 10 character in the game.

I kinda get why Stand On characters are immune to knockdown and chip damage, but even then, I still feel like that's kind of an insane thing to say "press a button for this character to no longer experience two basic words in the FG lexicon". It's not thinking about these characters in their ecosystem if that makes sense; I do think there could've been other ways to balance Stand On mode that doesn't shut down avenues for characters to get a leg up on them.

Part of the issue is that in the initial version of the game, JoJo's Venture, nearly every character was an Active Stand or Weapon Stand character. Only Shadow DIO and Young Joseph had passive Stands, and they were both secret characters. So while it was a highly effective mechanic, it was still balanced in that nearly everyone could use it. Heritage for the Future, the revision, added a mess of new characters, and almost all of them (Rubber Soul, the Hol Horses, Mariah, Pet Shop, Black Polnareff) were Passive Stands. Most likely, this was to save money, since it's half the work to design a Passive Stand character compared to an Active Stand. You can see this in the two newcomers with Active Stands: Vanilla Ice was already in Venture as a boss character, and New Kakyoin is a clone, so both of them needed relatively little work. So basically, the problem arose because when these systems were designed, it was at a time when nobody thought the game would have half its roster consisting of characters who couldn't use it.

@@kenkoopa7903 It's worth noting that the whole point behind Shadow DIO and Joseph is that they were Passive Stand characters because they _couldn't_ just pull out their Stands and fight alongside them. In DIO's case, it's because he's deliberately trying to conceal the power of The World (hence, Shadow DIO's World takes the form of an indistinct silhouette that only shows up for certain moves), and in Young Joseph's case, he doesn't have a Stand, period. Meanwhile, compare that to some of the new characters who ended up with Passive Stands. Black Polnareff absolutely has a Stand he can fight alongside, since he's just Polnareff under possession--in fact, one of the most iconic parts of the fight is when he switches to letting Silver Chariot use the sword. Rubber Soul, same difference--he prefers to keep Yellow Temperance wrapped around him, but it can still function independently from him or split up. And while Hol Horse's Stand is an object he has to hold, Chaka was also a character whose Stand is a weapon and he still had two movesets--they could have designed a version of Hol who uses punches and kicks, then draws Emperor and switches to a gun-based moveset. But they didn't, because, well... they didn't have the time or the money, so they decided to just work with what they could get out. And you can really see the effects of that budget in the character roster. Hol Horse was planned for the first game but they couldn't finish him, Vanilla Ice is a boss made playable, and New Kakyoin, Black Polnareff, Hoingo, and Rubber Soul all reuse things from other characters. So the only fully bespoke characters in the revision were Mariah, Pet Shop, and Khan. And Pet Shop is broken, Mariah is broken from the other direction, and Khan is bordering on unfinished.

I remember exploring this game many years ago and finding the disparity between Mariah and other characters to be astounding. Even disregarding tools and their utility, the damage difference is ridiculous. Reward on successful opening isn't something people talk about enough in terms of power level, I feel. Getting 10% into a knockdown meterless, vs. getting 25% into knockdown meterless, off of the same starter, is a massive difference that will add up across all games. idk if this stuff is worse than mvc2 Roll, Dan, or Servbot comparitive to the rest of the cast using any of them against a Magneto or Storm seems really bad and i don't think any of those characters were actually meant to be viable since they're all silly joke characters, Dan especially bc he's made bad on purpose in every game he's ever been in including puzzle fighter even if the others are worse bc being like 1/3 the size of a regular character. it would be interesting to see a discussion about comparisons between the worst characters in various games

Midler doesn't need to use tandem really, but it's also just something you practice and get better at.

1. You can always play them in fightcade 2. There's a pretty good reason for why they're banned they were absolutely broken but they're just banned in most tournaments

She's the only character I've bothered to learn in JJBA. Worth it purely for the salt one receives on fightcade! Even though you're struggling from 99s, the satisfaction you get from winning is like nothing else!
