Well done Tom and team. Back in the late 60's early 70's I used to milk in a ground bale on Salisbury Plain. We would graze the cows around the bale which was a 5/10 Herrington but our problems came when we moved the bale and cows to new grazing and it would take a couple of milkings for the cows to get used to the move. I believe we were the last farm to use bale milking. For interest the bale folded up and was towed behind a land rover or tractor, folded out, a canvas cover went over the bale and was tied into the frame. No pit, the cows were on the same level as we were. It was back breaking, I'm in the summer but a nightmare in rain and the winter.

Been there done that and I knew that you had no idea how difficult it would be but I decided not to say anything when you were so excited to get delivery of the temporary parlour, they were better the second milking and by the fifth time they were more or less ok , strangely we were dreading the first milking in the new parlour but they just walked in and stood up absolutely no difficulties, we had a heap of help and basically had a great time because we had naf all to do ( lots of beer and sarnies) ! I milked on my own the next morning and again no problem so you probably don’t need to be dreading that day because I did and I probably could have milked on my own with no problem.
