A while back I participated in a Lilly's Garden Ad lore deep dive. For over 2 hours we watched every add in alleged chronological order to piece together what exactly was going on. Around the time we got to the washing machine bits, we learned that the group that was in charge of the ads and the group in charge of the game play weren't even in the same company. They outsourced their ads and apparently gave no instructions whatsoever, sharing only what a few characters looked like and the game title. It was one of the most fun speculative experiences i have ever had.

Hey, someone who played the game so you dont have to here! The games are. A lot, storywise. Goes from saving the old aunt's estate, to preventing a corrupt politician from turning a park into something to help their campaign, to the main character somehow making her own gardening business and then working on the presidents garden. NONE of the ads have any correlation to the games. Not once. None of those scenarios have anything to do with the games. Also two of those girls are straight up dating by the time we hit the national park revamp arc.

I agree, I remember being kinda traumatized as a kid just by a sad story about Nyan cat (I know using “traumatized” here is a bit odd, but I seriously couldn’t stop thinking about it for weeks, it really deeply upset me and tbh I’m still kinda influenced by it in some ways). If I had seen anything with animal abuse, which is horrifyingly common in these ads, I seriously would’ve been fucked up by that. I was a pretty sensitive kid, I really really loved animals, so stuff like that would’ve been way too much for me.
@engelberthovel85663 ай бұрын
I just know someone’s gonna think I’m cringe for the nyan cat thing, the issue was that it made me think about the horror of unexpectedly outliving loved ones in a really direct and (for my age, I was like 8) shocking way, and it dealt with things like suicide and stuff. I also really really really loved cats and felt deeply protective of them and often worried about them and their happiness, so it hit extra hard because it was this super cute, innocent cat character. It might sound dumb but it really mattered to me as a little kid, and it’s still stuck with me because it made me think about things like the misery that immortality would bring, and how horrible it is that I’ll outlive almost everyone I love, for the first time. And honestly I would’ve been better off thinking about that a little later, it made me unhealthily obsessed with death at way too young an age (and not in a fun goth way, in a miserable premature mourning way). (Trauma dumping ahead, nothing actually explicit just vague shit about me being weird and depressed as a kid, I don’t expect anyone to read it but I guess I kind of got the urge to vent it into the random KZbin comment void lmao) I gradually developed OCD symptoms that became really bad and genuinely dangerous around 9 or 10 (I would ritualistically do things that would intentionally risk my own death, despite very much NOT wanting to die, and not for attention either because I kept it secret for like a year). Admittedly these were also caused by the fact that I almost lost my beloved cat to urinary problems (ALWAYS FEED YOUR MALE CATS WET FOOD, even if the vet says you don’t need to TRUST ME they do need it) and my family was genuinely about to put him down until he survived at the last minute multiple times, but the cartoon really DID contribute to building that into a greater existential fear and depression and a general fear of death itself, rather than purely just being scared of losing my cat. These issues eventually dropped down to a more normal level for a while, but reappeared severely when my (fortunately very elderly) cat died when I was 17 (for anyone like me who gets depressed whenever you see that a cat died, don’t worry about him because he lived a very happy life and died of natural causes). I ended up in a miserable self-loathing emotional pit that didn’t end until I finally decided to get antidepressants. Stuff like this sounds stupid out of context, but honestly I do think that being exposed to dark content, especially when it involves animals being harmed, can really deeply affect a kid in ways that don’t just go away. Yes, my extreme stuff was coupled with other stuff that upset me, but it wasn’t really uncommon stuff. I really do think that it became a deeper issue than it would have been because of the severe depression I felt from that relatively simple video. I’m okay and doing well now (and I have two wonderful new happy & healthy rescue cats), but it was a process to get here.

Don't make the same mistake i did and just get adblock for a fracture of the price
@neonhalos10 ай бұрын
I can give you an actual serious answer to that. it's the psychological aspect of the ad. the ad shows an "example" player screwing up all the prompts with obviously braindead choices, like the wind-chime in your example over the fireplace. what this does to casual users is make them simultaneously annoyed and captivated by what's going on. the goal is for people to be compelled to download the app so that they can do the "right" choices instead. thing is, when it comes to the app stores on iOS and Android, download rate is more important than ratings in a lot of cases. most people just dismiss the "rate our app" popup in any app they use. app advertisers (distinct from the devs, this is important) know this. but if an app is downloaded a billion times, people are often more inclined (in general) to download it to see what the fuss is about versus scrolling through reviews. sure, a good chunk will take the time to read a review and decide against downloading. but given how short people's attention spans are these days, it's more likely they'll forgo that and just download it. so then that adds another tally to the download rate. the app stores will push ads for apps that have higher download rates as opposed to positive reviews. even if 80% of the people who download it uninstall it shortly after, it doesn't matter. that user's data is now flagged and they'll get pushed more ads for similar games. and the other 20% that keep the game are far more likely to not only watch ads in the game itself (since most users don't know how to block ads in games), thus giving the devs more passive income... but they're also more likely to buy currency packs or extra lives, giving even more income to the devs. it's a very intentional process. they all know what they're doing. the point isn't to showcase the game but to pique interest and curiosity.

There is so much grooming-orientated stuff out now, that it is quite startling. Like, a lot of these games, if you notice - they have someway in which a child is raised/leveled up (quickly, I might add) to turn into a sexy dame. The one where the chief has to pick between the beast or the kid, for instance: He picks the kid, it eats the dolphin/shark thing, then turns into a bimbo. "Good job saving that kid, Chief! Now ya got something ta fuck!"

Exactly I’m surprised that wasn’t commented on. I feel like these ads started degenerate but they’ve gotten worse to draw more clicks and downloads
@MizzzFizzz11 ай бұрын
And these are the ads kids are seeing constantly aswell. And they arent even able to understand how weird it is, its just a funny ad so they click it, but that shit densensitizes you, its so scary what is happening with the lack of care what we allow in the open for kids. We really need some ID system to seperate adults and children online. If you ban sexual content and make everything family friendly it will just leak its way in anyway it can.
@VerninTheRat11 ай бұрын
@@MizzzFizzz That's an excellent point - And more and more I see the tendency for parents to just keep their kids occupied with tablets and such; Not really immersed with them either, to see what they are getting into. A notable example was all of those trolls from 4chan and other similar sites, that orchestrated a project to upload hundreds of porn videos, disguised, onto KZbin kids. I dunno, it's muddy water there too, with perhaps going too far in the other direction - I.E., your helicopter parents. But in the end, it is and should be up to the parents, no matter what, as to the content they want their kids involved in. A good friend of mine, very open-minded like me, had to say, "Enough is enough." And so he pulled his kids out of public school and they really do not allow the boys as much freedom online in evening hours, as many other parents. But they do family things, or congregate in the family room. When they're older - It's different. But he was a bit worried that it may be too harsh, and I feel like my parent's seemed so too. But the kids may turn out to be cognizant enough in the future (perhaps parents themselves) and see why a certain degree of parental control is Always necessary. As you pointed-out: They don't know. Kids are just absorbing information. They follow the lead of the 'bigger' people that provide for them. Leave them to their own devices and it's madness waiting to happen. It's truly heartless too. It's like just leaving a garden behind, if we don't instill morals and virtuous characteristics into the minds and hearts of our children. Gotta watch them sprouts! Because truly: Evil Knows No Bounds!

Something I often find is that the ads are worse than the games they advertise. There's this one game, Isekai Slow Life, it's one of those pay to win tycoon gachas but the beginning of it-before everything became super slow until it was impossible to play without making purchases-was genuinely fun to play through. Well, for a time-wasting mobile game that is. But yeah-the story was fun at first, so was the gameplay. There was really a lot to do, lol. But BY GOD THE ADS ARE INSANE. They had a lot of good in-game material to advertise, and do nothing with it. It's like the team that make the ads and the team that make the game have no contact, and the advertisement team makes the ads based off cover posters of the game.
