It turns out the GBA game, based on an early version of the script, actually explains both the pills scene *and* "Why is FBI dude using Ecks over literally any current FBI agent?" There Ecks turned to drugs after the "death" of his wife and son (already born in that version, and their survival is so tacked on it could have just been cut entirely), and since his official retirement the FBI dude has regularly been using him as a deniable, expendable agent in exchange for supporting his habit. This also in turn explains why an FBI agent is getting involved in spy plots in the first place. Why were these cut from the movie? Don't know! GBA plot still isn't *good* ("You killed a bunch of innocent law enforcement, but the bad guy was behind everything so you're free to go!") but it can be understood as a series of events. The movie version doesn't even have that.
@PassTheMarmalade19577 жыл бұрын
9:41 Okay, I'm assuming Ecks had to smuggle his pills into the car and used a camera as a cover in this scene. Because if not, that means someone in the props department was too lazy to get an actual pill bottle, and used a FILM CANISTER instead.

On a podcast from earlier this year, he also heavily implied that the studio fraudulently inflated his the budget for a tax write-off (which the studio WAS actually convicted for doing on another movie, in 2007).

Fun fact: This boring-ass movie had not one, but two video game tie-ins. The first (Ecks Vs. Sever) was a first-person shooter for the Gameboy Advance and it garnered good reviews. It was based on an early draft of the script and due to the film's pre-production hang-ups, the game came out before the movie. The second game, Ballistic: Ecks Vs. Sever, came out after the film's release and followed closer to the film's plot. It got decidedly less-positive reviews.

Sever throws a grenade or something under the car for some reason, but in my head canon it randomly blows up!

Prince of darkness is a hilariously edgy nickname. How does a film with Antonio Banderas and Lucy Liu in the title roles, suck so bad? How do you get noted action movie people and make a bad action movie??? I'm surprised that the fight scenes aren't at least vaguely interesting.
@Shorty_Lickens7 ай бұрын
The worst part of this movie is its regular bad. So bland you'll feel sorry for wasting your time but won't be able to adequately explain to friends just how terrible it was. If it were much worse you could laugh at it and talk about it with other people, and laugh again. But its not in that super bad territory that makes it fun to look back on years later.

You should do Death note, not only is it a disgrace to the original anime, but even as a stand alone movie it fails in almost every way

I have to wonder if the reason they called Parks' Character "Prince of Darkness" is just a very on-the-nose way of referencing that he played Darth Maul in Episode 1. Like, he _was_ actually the Prince (Apprentice) of Darkness (Sidious) in that movie.

You'd think Lucy Liu or Antonio Banderas would have created a fake account and give it at least one good review on Rotten Tomatos.

14:03 - When she runs her car into the van and it explodes.. why does the truck behind Ecks ALSO explode? There's nothing even near it! At the end of the movie.. if she had him at her mercy and shot him in the shoulder.. why care about the robot and not just shoot him in the head?

Sadly....I watched this in the theater.... I know he reviews these movies so others dont have to but....seriously, you HAVE to see this movie in its entirety to understand just how BAD it is. Like that mall shootout scene. The government has the building surrounded WITH SNIPERS.....yet Sever takes them ALL out with a submachine gun.....whats worse is that the snipers are NOT all in the same location, they are spread out.....Then comes the whole Armored truck scene....they tried to make it look all badass with the truck BURSTING through some concrete barriers till they stop just near the entrance to the Mall....only to jump out and start to put their gear on...you can see the one guy @10:43 put his helmet and gun ON THE GROUND shortly after jumping out....like who the Fk does that? The others are holding their guns like they are walking to the gun range and NOT jumping into a dangerous situation. That, of course, leaves them open for Sever to kick their butts and then use the LOADED Machinegun in the back to shoot at everyone else.....I mean what kind of retarded armored truck team is this?

When this movie came out in 2002, it was plastered everywhere on billboards, newspaper feature, TV ads, etc. I thought it was gonna be a cool badass movie just looking at the poster, it’s got Lucy Liu from Kill Bill and Antonio Banderas from Mask of Zorro even… but for some strange unexplained reason I didn’t feel compelled to watch it. Now I know why and good thing I passed it.

Action movies can get away with very simple and straightforward plots, the focus is on the action after all, but this movie proves that an action film can't get away with a nonsensical plot. This movie also shows that even action movies need strong characters, that the audience can connect with. Dutch in Predator might be a one note character, but you still love to watch Arnold Schwarzenegger kick ass. In this movie, neither Banderas nor Liu really give a reason to care about them, given how bland and boring their characters are. If you don't give a shit about what's going on in the movies and you don't give a shit about the characters, any fight they go through will feel boring, cause you either feel nothing is at stake or you don't care about what's at stake.

Ecks vs Sever wasn’t nominated at the Razzies. But if it was, it would be nominated for • Worst Picture • Worst Director - Wych “i can’t pronounce his name but i don’t care” • Worst Screenplay • Worst Actor - Antonio Banderas • Worst Actress - Lucy Liu • Worst Screen Couple - Antonio Banderas and Lucy Liu • Worst Supporting Actor - Ray Park • Worst Supporting Actress - Talisa Soto • Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel (for being an ugly and blatant rip-off of better action films) On the plus side, the Game Boy version of Ballistic received much better ratings

Hhhhmmmm. Loved the review by the way, but at 13:58 after the yellow car hits the red van the truck behind both of them blows up. How and why? It can't be because of the two cars because Ecks is in front of the truck away from where he shot the car, plus how does Ecks not die or get hurt by the explosion!!!! HOW!!!! WHY!!!!

Another thing that always bugs me (as if it's the only thing) is how could ecks hack into the DIA server to get info of sever when the DIA had literally no idea who she was in the first place? Did they just put up some files in a day or something?

Fun fact: There's actually a Game Boy Advanced video game called Ecks vs. Sever that came before this movie was made and was based around early script of the movie. It's sequel is called Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever which in turn shared the same name as the movie source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecks_vs._Sever

I love the fact that just before those cars explode that you can clearly see that it's raining but no one appears to be getting wet. Also, IMDB says that the director is "Wych Kaosayananda (as Kaos)". Kaos is VERY appropriate for his direction.
