I just went and rewatched that scene thinking he might have been out of ammo and realized it at the last second, but he only shoots the shotgun twice. It would have been so easy just have him be empty and have her point it out to him, which is almost a trope by now. Even worse, when she backs away in the car, sees the cops, then goes forward, she drives a long, long way, and he just stands there and lets her run him over. Then he shoots the car with the shotgun, and she hits that van. But she doesn't swerve because of the shotgun hit or anything, she was already driving straight at the van. She was going to hit it and flip even if he wasn't there...

This movie actually has a really interesting production story. The director Kaos actually calls himself that because he is from Thailand and it's part of his full name. He was 24 when he directed this, which was his first film, and he was funded by a con man who basically did what Uwe Boll did and also skimmed off the top of the budget and basically forced Kaos out of having literally any control over his own film and it ruined his career to the point that now he only directs in Thailand and writes his own scripts and keeps as much control over his own films as possible and has only done a total of like three or four movies, none of which have really impressed or done very well but he is still trying. This movie was so out of Kaos's hands that they even changed the name of the film without his say-so. They even cut out almost all of the stunts and edited it severely which is why it's shot so weirdly. There is a lot more to the story, but long story short this movie was going to be a lot better than it ended up being all because a new director got screwed over.

This movie was essentially taken away from the director...the plot about nanotech was added in to give it a more "matirx scifi" feel...but it was the big nail in the coffin for Samaha, he had to close up his company pretty soon after when people found out that he inflated the budgets on his film (including this one) to get money back in tax rebates and pocket the difference.

The directors name is Wych Kaosayananda and sometimes he's credited as Kaos or Wych Kaos. He's from Thailand. There were changes in the original script - Sever kidnaps Ecks’ son, and the whole time, the boy is basically kept in a kid-sized glass box just big enough for him to sit in, placed on top of a kilo of C4. The whole nanotechnology thing wasn't a motivation until the rewrites. The main reasons for re-writes included way too big and expensive action sequences, a wish for a more serious, darker, and grittier tone, and the story of McElroy's original script focusing more on themes of family love and loss and revenge. Also, Sever was originally male. The had to move production from Bangkok to Vancouver for safety reasons which I believe were caused by 9-11. Unfortunately they had to cut more action scenes because of the moving expenses. During post-production, Kaosayananda was removed from creative control by the producers, who replaced his original editor (Caroline Ross) and denied him final cut privileges. Kaosayananda stated in a 2014 interview that the re-edits also affected the action scenes. They also replaced his first choice of composer composer, Trevor Rabin, with Don Davis, because they wanted a score reminiscent of his work on The Matrix. Originally the film was intended to Wesley Snipes and Jet Li, and then after them Sylvester Stallone and Vin Diesel were going to star. Kaosayananda's preferred choices were Chow Yun-fat and Jean Reno, but producers didn’t consider them financially viable.

Yes...its that dumb. The kid is actually Ecks son and Kitana is Ecks' wife. She married the bad guy after Ecks died. The kid is just the "transportation" device to smuggle some Tech into the US. Sever is like Black Widow...captured when she was young and made into an assassin. The blonde guy killed her family when she was young, something she figures out later, and she wants revenge on him, He, BTW, blamed the car bombing that made Ecks and Kitana think the other was dead. She knows about the tech in the kid, and knows Ecks is his father, so she kidnaps him to protect him and she removed the tech from his body. The bad guy doesn't know this, so that's why he goes out of his way to NOT kill her. He doesn't care about the kid, just the tech. So that's all you need to know...if you care... Wouldn't be the first time a composer was brought in literally last-minute. James Horner was in that situation on both *Ransom* and *Troy* (the latter film especially suffered because Horner's score was an obvious rush job), and Bear McCreary had to replace Thomas Newman on *The Last Voyage of the Demeter* (which is why that particular score feels generic). It's not an uncommon practice, nor is it uncommon for otherwise good composers to turn out mediocre work under those circumstances.

It's like the most expensive movie PM Entertainment never made. Kept waiting for Jason to say, "I love me some bad writing." In this case, I think the script pages were just filled with drawings of people in trench coats shooting Robocop guns, exploding cars, fire, etc.

The director's name is Wych Kaosayananda. He just shortened it, because no American could ever pronounce it correctly to save their life. Most Americans with non-English last names can't even pronounce their own names. Also, mononyms for movie directors were considered to be "cool" at the time - McG, Pitof, etc.
@reidmason25512 ай бұрын
@@henrygvidonas9573 McG and Pitof are nicknames, to be honest (for Joseph McGinty Nichol and Jean-Christophe Comar, respectively). Tarsem (Singh Dahndwar)? No excuses in his case.

I actually do remember watching this movie back in the day when it was new and I very well may have seen it in the theater. It looks like they spent all of their Hollywood budget on the effects and forgot to spend anything on writers, the screenplay, or the choreography. This is definitely a nostalgia movie for me.
