@@drekagaming for me personally I just was never a fan of the the overall art style and aesthetic. Plus, it didn't help that the Gen 5 anime was kinda ass imo. I prefer Pokemon Black and White over B2W2 though. I appreciate the games with age though. Plus, at the time they felt too easy. I finished the game within like 24 hours as a kid. Of course later games got way easier but back then it felt too easy for me.

Legends Zygarde would be insane, old Kalos where u have to dig up/ mine for mega stones, old cults worshipping Yveltal and Xerneas slowly learning of the origins of Zygarde in a Middle Age France setting, and it would kind of fulfill the missed opportunity with that third game to X and Y

Even better, saving the world from the cataclysmic weapon and a war 3000 years ago. Dodging Pokemon and their trainers. You're part of a peace group, so you only hit them back with non lethal means until they black out. Wandering into temples of life and death with cult leaders begging you to stop AZ. Explaining the weapons link to gigantamax energy (sword and shield) as well as the megastones as you explained. How AZ got his curse for living so long. Etc etc. We need this

Even with nostalgia aside, b&w / b2&w2 are probably my favorite. I thoroughly enjoyed having a sequel instead of an improved third version. Having two games actually connected, and seeing characters grow up and help you on a new adventure. Emerald is a close second.

This type of list really makes you realize that whether you like a pokemon game really depends on what you look for in pokemon games. Each game excels and crashes at different things, I don't think there's been a perfect pokemon game yet, if that's even possible. For instance, I didn't really like Legends Arceus, I just didn't enjoy it because the gameplay loop just isn't that fun for me, the battle system feels less strategic due to the way they changed to a global speed system rather than a turn based one, and there isn't really as much of a reward to raising a consistent team. However, someone who likes the exploration focus of the game and enjoys catching pokemon will consider it the best game in the franchise. Someone who values story above all else will probably hate XY and love Pokemon Black, but if you value in game pokemon diversity, your opinions of those games might be completely flipped. There's not really a right or wrong opinion, its just whether the game does things that cater to your personal playstyle. On that note, my favorite is sword/shield because that's given me my most fun pokemon experience, a nuzlocke I actually made a video on. My least favorite is probably gold/silver, because the level curve makes replaying the game really boring at times.

Love this take. You're absolutely right, your ideal Pokemon game really depends on what you want from it. SwSh may not have much in terms of difficulty, but damn they give you a ton of options to form your team, the QoL is fantastic, and I enjoyed all the places and characters (the wild area + DLC places were a ton of fun to explore). HgSs have a lot of content and have nice features, but that level curve and abundant grinding made it so hard for me to complete, and I much more enjoy the stories involving the Legendary Pokemon (RSE, DPPt, BW, etc) than simple Rocket shenanigans. Of course, that's just me and what I personally enjoy in Pokemon games.

I think a HUGE part of X and Y were the community and self organized events like Trade and tourney streams. X and Y were so much fun with Megas and interacting with people. Even if the games itself had a bad postgame. Supertraining and easier breading along with the online functions made it fun.

Platinum also added more detailed areas, Battle Frontier, actually tolerable surfing speed, Buck's house got completely revamped, and the canon story. It also added many new aspects that would become staples of the series like mid gen forms for Pokémon like Rotom and Giratina.

Also added additional Pokémon to use beyond the standard 151 from diamond and pearl. Now having 210 for the regional dex which was needed for Sinnoh do to the lack of specific types like fire, electric, and ice. Also maybe the fact a third of the new Pokémon were reserved for post game was dumb in diamond and pearl. Which was fixed in platinum thankfully so you could use the new Pokémon to playthrough the game.

It actually makes me sad that X and Y are so hated, Without being nostalgic here is why these are my favorite games They were the first to introduce so many features that paved the way for the next generations, they walked so Gen 7, 8, and 9 can run. They were the first to be 3D, they introduced the gimmick aspect, and I'm pretty sure we can all agree to this but X and Y introduced shiny hunting methods to which a lot of people became shiny hunters! Just like red and blue started it all, X and Y created a new path for pokemon If they had a better story and some post game they would honestly be the best pokemon games ever!

Playing Gen 5 wasn't that bad, I loved the 1st games because even though you don't see Gens 1-4 pokemon, unlocking them post game was magical and rewarding. Like "oh shit, I know these guys!" When completing the first ones. BW2 using the old mons was still rewarding because after 2 years, you'd think the world would have invasive/just new pokemon appear along side the Gen 5 ones. I loved the story for both and still top 5 games to me

As a kid I didn't have the means to own any of the nintendo consoles so I had to use an emulator to play the games, I guess the ones I played the most were FireRed, Crystal, Emerald and BW/BW2 - As I grew older I started to enjoy 4th gen less and less, meanwhile I LOVED fifth gen and many of it's pokémon are very dear to me. When I finally had my own money I bought a 3DS and my first "real" copy of a pokémon game - Pokémon Moon. The next year my mom gave me Pokémon Ultra Sun for my birthday, I never told her I wanted that game which made it so much better, so Sun/Moon/US/UM hold a special place in my heart.

I have a similar story to you. I only owned a Ds up until 2017. I've always been interested in pokemon but never tried to play, then I emulated emerald on my phone and fell in love, and really saw the appeal. When I got my 3ds I bought pokemon sun, and played it so much that I decided to get ultra sun and play through it also. I really adore sun and moon despite it being annoying with the dialogue and cutscenes at times but I have a huge soft spot for those pokemon. Not to mention it got me through a lot. Those games are just too good!

See the title and the thumbnail and I was like "you have some explaining." I understand now. However, as a person who put in more then 1500 hours in gen 4 alone, I think I'm qualified to explain why platnium is much better then diamond and pearl. Its not just the updated maps bringing MUCH more life and uniqueness to places. It's not JUST the distortion world which brings a whole new spin onto the now legendary trio instead of legendary duo in diamond and pearl. It's the changes to story progresses and gym set up that allows for a more natural flow instead of long stretches of no gyms followed by a couple back to back, then no gyms. It's the updated regional dex that saw more then 2 fire types in the entire dex. It's the updated teams and the new aspects to the story. It's the extra content post game. It's the small quality of life fixes like the pokenav having a next and previous app button instead of having to cycle past every single app to get to the one you want. These things are what made platnium far better then diamond and pearl. Was it a perfect game? Heck no. Close combat a level 70 Chancey and you will know that it's not perfect lol. I'd say diamond and pearl would be higher then meh but not quite great due to the dex, slowness and a few other things, but platnium is definitely an awesome on this chart. Platnium cemented the gen 4 games as a great gen. Now, hgss. Those games were great. Closest things to a perfect remake we have had so far. Black and white was a genuinely great game, but I understand how the changes it made to the formula could have people standoffish. X and y was alright. Not the greatest but certainly not the worst. In my opinion, bdsp takes the crown for worst pokemon games Legends arceus is certainly one of the greatest

A simple bulbapedia search will tell you what is changed in platinum. Agreed, arguably ORAS ties with it though. gen 5 were decent games, but compared to what gen 4 established before in terms of features it just sucked shit. There's no frontier, instead we get not 1 but 2 half assed battle pyramids, and seasons exist to do nothing but hinder the experience by gatekeeping areas and Pokemon, also PWT is just fanservice with no substance, pokestar studios is boring, and musicals are half assed contests. And before you mention the story like everyone else for no reason, it's just stupid. Ghetsis plan is stupid and realistically would never work, and N is gullible. XY needed a frontier like any other game that doesn't have one, but amie was awesome and super training was at least something, the character creator is also neat, and so is PR video. Besides super training there's really no other mini games to take part in, it just has the same problems as BW regarding style and lack of gameplay substance but XY is just slightly better, bw has mini games too but they're gone now because they're online only. BDSP on their own aren't the worst games, on their own, but they're awful remakes. Legends arceus is a different kind of game and outside its open world and its ways to explore and gather and catch, it lacks substance.

2:36 IMHO I actually agree with this take, Diamond and Pearl had a great base but had some extreme fatal flaws regarding Pacing, the roster, and the battle engine. For example you would go a super long stretch between Gym 2-4 and then rapid fire until Cyrus. There were infamously only 2 Fire type lines of Pokémon, and there was no battle frontier. Platinum fixed basically all of these issues except the battle engine and because DP already had a great base, and couple that with distortion world shenanigans, this enhancement far outclassed it’s predecessors.

Their graph to show fluctuation is all over the place tho. You actually dont agree with them unless you think diamond and pearl are beyond bad. Their graph is weird and has no good explanation. There's no way an F paper(D/P) becomes an A+ (Platinum) with minor tweaks. Platinum would have to have been a completely different game altogether to get a boost like that. Third installments are not so radically different from each other that the first pair can be at the bottom of the abyss, while the third installment is sky high. Most of these games would be around the same tier.

13:58 The music coming in like that hit me. Immediately reminded me of why I enjoyed XY. People are a bit too harsh on it, but they're not entirely unfounded. It's what a lot of people are saying: The lack of a post game. I remember being so hyped up when reading stuff about an event with the power plant where you'd fight Volcanion, and the datamines of AZ's Floette's signature move, Light of Ruin, and I was waiting every day for an update to come to the game so I could see these for myself, or maybe if they were already available and they were just hidden, and I wanted to be the first to find them. But sadly, they never came. All I was left with was catching Zygarde, Mewtwo, and Articuno. ORAS made up for it with literal scavenger hunt of legendaries though, at least to me.

That first one was the most dog water list I've ever seen LOL. Also my personal favorite games were just gen 5 in general. The game had a lot of depth in both the story and the content. There were philisophical themes, themes of depression, and other things that made gen 5 feel more mature. It made me think about how real life could have been if pokemon actually existed irl. I get that Pokemon IS a fantasy series, but adding a bit of realism to the games was a really nice touch because it definitely kept me more invested in the story rather than just catching and battling. The music and the visuals were also top of the line. My personal least favorite has to be gen 3, so RSE. ORAS was fun since it just felt like X&Y but with an already established story, and more content. As for RSE the games to me just looked really ugly. My first Pokemon games were FRLG & RSE so I'm not blindly hating them, I'm just recalling how they made me feel. I thought that the overworld of RSE was just water and rocky caves. The story wasn't that much better either, all that really stood out to me was wally and his little redemption arcs. Leveling up in RSE straight up felt boring as hell, and the pokemon variety left me super underwhelmed. I was really disappointed that there were barely any elec types other than manectric and plusle & minun, but there were 5000 different water types. I find myself replaying these games every couple of years just to stop mid way cause of boredom. If I want a Hoenn experience I'll just play ORAS.

You gave absolutely no examples of their lack of content compared to gen 5 when gen 3 offered secret bases, the battle frontier, and Pokemon contests while gen 5 omitted all of that for 2 half assed battle pyramid style facilities, and PWT which is fanservice and no substance. The story is also garbage because the villain is bland and N is gullible, there's nothing in bw that shows what life could be like with Pokemon irl more than any other game as the world of Pokemon in general is based on it with normal people, communities, and environments that happen to live alongside monsters, doesn't add anymore realism either. How do they look ugly to you when they're halfway the same style, just less blurrier in gen 3? It's objectively not just rocky caves and water. There's a desert, a route covered in ash, there's fiery path, there's a forest, a tropical, rainy grassland/forest a sunken ship, and a graveyard island tower. All that sticks out in gen 5 is Bianca's dumb blonde moments and N being an annoying preacher. Barely electric types? There was also voltorb, magnemite, and chinchou ontop of what you said, and ampharos in emerald. Only thing I really disagree with on that list is HGSS being below so many lesser games like rs, frlg, and bdsp of all things, also Arceus has no business being so high, neither does SS and let's go.

If I had to say my favorite without nostalgia bias, it'd have to be HGSS. There's something so charming about all of it, and having a full second region to explore is so nice. As for a least favorite game, I'm not sure, because I feel pretty neutral about all the games. I have a few games that I'd put in the good/great category, and then everything else is tied for neutral. I guess any of the games in Kanto (Red/Blue, Yellow, FRLG, Lets Go). Kanto being the first obviously doesn't have a lot going on with it, but all of the Kanto Remakes feel hollow to me sometimes, like no substance to it except a childhood nostalgia I don't have.

The Unova Region being Introduced like no other pokemon game, Bianca's and Cheren's Character Designs and Black and White's great music, the cute starters pixelated and lots of movements with it, the beauty and time they put into the rippling water, village bridges. investigating, a whole city (Castelia City) something beautiful to me, it's just a great addition, going into places and investigating and able to battle the people of GameFreak in their own building, your wonders of meeting zoroark as he runs off, dragonspiral tower, they added as many eye and ear pleasing things as possible into the game, they captured little moments like the ferris wheel well. Most Favorite Game: Black and White 2 where the story, music, and the post game were really fun where I trained up my first ever actual lvl 100 pokemon passively. I loved the theme of the battle of truth and ideals along with Kyurem as an intermediary. Least Favorite Game: Sword and Shield where although the updated graphics and post-gamecontent were impressive over time, the story felt very empty and hollow with many loose ends specifically in regards to the rivalry/endings of Hop, Bede, and us as the rising champion. Also, it felt as if we as teh mc were always outside the story with Leon and the other Gym Leaders always engaging in the more exciting aspects such as encourtering and quelling rogue Dynamax pokemon in the cities. The only value our character had in the entire main story besides being a top rookie for the league was that we fight Rose and Eternatus in the end and that's it.

Black and White was just ahead of it's time and people who haven't played them should give it a try. the onl games i played before that were FR/LG, Emerald and HG/SL which were all spectacular in their own right but when a friend told me about B/W and when I finally gave it a go myself it managed to land itself as one of my favorites so it baffles me why people dislike them so much. So I encourage you, if you're going to make a tier list take Ttar's adivce and take off you nostalgia glasses but play the games again and even ones you haven't yet. The best way to judge a dish isn't by it's looks and reviews but through experience

B/W were game freak pushing the level of their story, more mature tone, older starting characters (they were 16), IMO the best itterationn of sprites, and the risk of doing something different. But the majority hated it cause it was so different, and it effected every pokemon game after. They went back to the formula, dumbed down the stories, made them easier, and the abomination that is sword and shield was born. They are going in the right direction with arceus, but I hope they get the confidence to up the story a bit more I also have an insane level of hate for both sun and moons, one of the worst pokemon games I have ever played

I started with X, and, while I can’t actually dig up those feelings, I know that it was an amazing time. Some years ago, I played it again to see for myself what like. Overall, there was just something missing. You were right when you said it was trying to paint something grand. It just doesn’t live up to its potential. Like, the elite four don’t even have harder rematches. And their teams only have four members! Also, I used Medicham for a good chunk and only got to mega-evolve it in postgame. It would also be nice to get more use out of the Holo-caster and just see more of some or many characters in general. I _want_ to feel what this game’s trying to pull off, but I just can’t. Nonetheless, I’m confident that Gen 6 absorbed more of my playtime than any other generation. Between XY and ORAS, I got at least my big five up (Greninja, Talonflame, Aegislash, Sceptile, Metagross) up to level 100. Then, of course, you have the mirage spots and secret bases which kept me busy. I think I would consistently go to fight this one person who had an Arceus on their party. It would also take good timing to actually get some of special Pokémon only available on certain days and times. Fun, I’d like to think.

it just sucks because XY gives you not one but 2 starters, a lucario that can mega evolve and a legendary. I found it more fun doing a nuzlocke through and not using any of those, it’s a lot more challenging. and greninja/froakie will always hold a special place in my heart being my first pokémon. @@gemraldkid6304 the game is still pretty easy even with the exp share off which show’s that the developers didn’t play test the game. The games in sun and moon, ultra sun and moon and Oras are extremely unforgiving without the exp share because the games were designed around its use and with the exp share the game becomes a cake walk. Oras had a bunch of random extremely high difficulty spikes without the exp share and same can be said about any of the games that comes after Oras. The npc trainers Pokémon become way too overleveled in the late game while your Pokémon are extremely underleveled due to the game being designed around an exp share system. They should have never added the exp share item. They should have just kept it as an item you can give to a specific Pokémon like in BW and allowed you grind up levels easily using methods like the Audino method. The exp share that gives all of you Pokémon in your party too much exp should have never existed and x and y was the first garbage game to introduce it and that’s when Pokémon games started being designed around a broken exp share system that only hurts the difficulty of the game. Pokémon games went on a downhill trend after x and y and continued to stagnate.

Favorite: Black and White because it has the best story, graphics and soundtrack ever and has a lot of charm. I find it really addicting and I can constant replay after beating it and never growing bored of it. Also love the 2d Pokémon animations in battle as well. Runner up will be B2 and White 2 for a great amount of post game content and even better music. Least Favorite: Let’s go pikachu and eevee I really do not like this game I find it easily forgettable and I deeply regret preordering this game. I was not fond of the new catching mechanic and the battles feel lifeless for some reason. The graphics are bland as well. Also an good honorable mention for least favorite will X and Y because the games are way too easy and the graphics surely haven’t aged well. And the rivals in the games are forgettable and boring as well. At least the anime was really good. I haven’t played this game again since 2013 and never plan on returning to it.

I'm a diehard Gen 4 fan, with my first Pokemon game ever being Diamond. I totally see why people don't like DP, it's got one of (if not the worst) region-specific Pokedexes, the health bars did not need to be that slow, and the cool new evolutions were locked to post-game (unless you could trade in with previous titles). Platinum's still absolutely fire though, improving DP's weaker qualities.

Only thing I hate about sun/moon and x/y and sword and shield is the forced friend thing! Let me travel alone please! Hate coming across my “friends group” every single town. It why I love the old games. Remember how many times you run across gary/blue? There the start battle. You can skip the one near the league before your first badge. Don’t run into him til second city on the bridge, which is another battle. Then he gone til the ship. Then Pokémon tower and then saffron city. I think victory road but not sure. X and Y are honestly my favorite. They had such good music, the customization was so cool, looker was so awesome, pokemon amie is probably the best and most interactive way to bond with your pokemon to date, I absolutely loved mega evolution, they had the best online system of any pokemon game, AZ was so incredible, the ultimate weapon was so cool, the stones in geosenge being mysterious and having them being knocked over was awesome, lumiose city is so beautiful, the pokeball factory was honestly so cool, the holocaster was awesome, I also honestly really liked the character development with Serena, being able to ride ryhorn, mamoswine, and lapras was sick, literally everything about the pokemon leauge was so incredibly cool and gives me chills everytime, and yveltal is maybe my favorite pokemon of all time. I can't even tell you how many times I've restarted just to explore the region, beat gyms, and bond with my pokemon, which is what pokemon is all about for me.

I really like USUM. Alola was the first region to have regional forms such as marowak and diglett. It makes up for the post-game SM never had by making it so you can actually freely go through ultra wormholes and it expands the universe (literally) with thoughts. It also has iconic moments and ultra necrozmas theme is just fire

Yeah, UsUm is a gem, would have made it more impactful if they modified Lillie's character to fit the new game instead of copying and pasting her into the remakes. Also, the part with Nihilego doesn't make that much sense in the context of the Ultra games, since it's stated that Lusamine's motives are to help the Recon Squad while keeping her ideal of catching Necrozma so she can see other UBs using its power. However, the pacing is an improvement and the game itself is challenging AF after the Melemele trial. Araquanid has strong moves against every starter, Marowak is so fast, Lurantis is a menace, Togedemaru is only defeatable with Ground type moves, Mimikyu is a bit of a pushover, Kommo-O is fairly easy, and Ribombee is Satan incarnate, plus the omniboosted Ultra Necrozma that ignores type matchups and 1 shots your entire team. Yeah, these games are good.

Black and White has always been my favorite, and I don't think that will ever change. I've enjoyed well written villains since I was old enough to form complete sentences, that's part of why B&W is my favorite, and also why X&Y is my least favorite, Lysandre is the worst villain in the franchise apart from chairman Rose, the difference is that the gameplay in SWSH was very fun, meanwhile X&Y were nothing but boring to me. I enjoyed AZ's backstory with Floette, but other than that I literally did not enjoy the game at any point. (when it comes to the anime though, X&Y was god tier, and B&W was a 5/10 at best)

Favourite: very difficult decision between Platinum (favourite region, favourite music, loads of content), BW2 (ridiculous amount of content, and some of the best-looking games visually IMO) and USUM (the most challenging game in the series, and I also love the region and the characters, though the story was better in Sun and Moon) Least favourite: Red and Blue. Sure, they started it all, but they still pale in comparison to pretty much any game we've had since in terms of amount of content, Pokemon variety, game balance, interesting locations and many other factors. It was literally the late 1990s, you can't go into a GameBoy game and expect 3DS or Switch level of quality Try making literally something like XY at least work properly on GB, camera angles, complicated music for the system, graphics etc., it was made at a time when "150, or more to see" was the reality of the series and all it's media went together excellently The games were a product of their time, just like RSE and the original dex cut (still love those games lol), just like BW which needed BW2 to somewhat salvage them from the overall bad timing of release and other mistakes, and I guess currently BDSP can have the same argument made for being a product of it's time currently, different eras have different expectations and results

It does help that they were my first games but I came an replayed them later when I was more grown up and I sorta realized a lot about the story that I initially did. I think the reason people may have hated it was just because the story was too complicated compared to other pokemon games and they played it at a young age, making it hard to understand. The context: I'm a "Genwunner." My first game was Yellow. It was the only game I had which I got when I turned 8 in 1998. I embraced each generation because by episode 2 of the anime before I even played Yellow I knew more Pokemon were coming. Especially, after seeing Ho-oh. I used to record them on VHS so I was able to rewind and observe it. I also hada poster of all 151 before I even owned yellow. So, I knew for a fact it was not a shiny fearow. LOL My basic terminology & factors: Region = Based on the lore, unique culture, and area. (Not based on the games alone.) Generation = Based on the engine on which the games ran on. Along with the small features including the mini-games and mechanics. Note: I score big for personal immersion. "Rich in local Pokemon to the region" = It has more original local pokemon to the region. (Not too heavy on Pokemon from previous regions) Favorite region: - Kalos - Unova - Alola - Johto - Hoenn - Sinnoh - Galar - Kanto Favorite Generation: (Note: Everyone already knows each generation's flaws. So, I will only highlight what loved about it.) - Gen 8: The immersive experience was mind-blowing. Especially seeing for the first time ever wailord's actual size in the wild!! But to keep it short and sweet. Wild Area, Post Game, Dynamic Music, improved breeding mechanics, and decent characters. Unique league system. I loved the Gym & League atmosphere. Dynamax is not my favorite feature but what I loved, was the fact that giant Pokemon was made cannon and it expanded the lore on the phenomenon. Nature Mints. Postgame plus DLCs were fun but short it left me wanting more. Should've given us a DLC for unreleased Pokemon data IE a jungle to obtain Zarude. - Gen 5: The music, the only game to have active seasons, NPCs in a crowded city, it showed that there was more to do in the pokemon world than just being a trainer. Story. Especially in Black 2 & White 2. Lore of the whole dragon splitting into 2. First introduced unlimited TM usage, hidden abilities, and Dreamworld. I freakin loved dreamworld. Logging onto the main website to befriend a few Pokemon and play mini-games with them. That was fun. Rich in local Pokemon to the region. Unique terrains. Team Plasma. Ghetsis. That friggen cutscene where Reshiram & Zekrom square off. The pokemon move!!! The world takes its first step into 3D & dynamic views. Audience in a tournament? Yes!!! :D - Gen 6 & 7 tied. MEGA EVOLUTION!!!!! Mantine surfing! (I love surfing for BPs), Pokemon lore, ALPA-I mean Totem Pokemon!!, the charm that Alola & Kalos had was their distinct atmosphere. Gen 6 had better customizations, Gen 7 had better mini-games and story. Gen 7 had such a unique culture which is why it scored high in my favorite region. It's so beyond what we deemed the standard/ the normal that I couldn't help but want more local pokemon to the region. Battle tree? Gen 6 was just beautifully presented, introduced Fairy types because Ghost/ Dark was OP. Flying on Latios/Latias, Delta episode, decent post-game content. Battle mansion! - Gen 4: Following Pokemon. Lugia & Ho-oh ritual. Great remake. Undergrounds of Sinnoh. The music. Lore to Dialga/Palkia/Giratina/lake guardians/ Regi golems, etc. Day & night feature returns! :D Battle factory! - Gen 3 The first time we see criminal organizations clash against each other. Rich in local Pokemon to the region. It actually gave Kanto a post-game. The music. We can see their sprites properly now! Battle frontier! - Gen 2 2 regions/actual postgame content! First introduction to Dark & Steel types. (Much love to Umbreon my all-time favorite Pokemon) the music. Good part 2 to the team rocket story. Rival character development. Side story. Finally seeing the world with more color!! Day & Night feature! - Gen 1 ...It was the first. The music. Rich in local pokemon to the region. Pikachu interactions. (Yellow). Okay, I'm getting tired. One thing I love about pokemon fans is how inconsistent their are. Many people were complaining about Black & White forcing you to play only with the new pokemon for the fisrt half of the map but when Sword & Shield announced that you will only be able to play with the 200+ pokemon they were saying how amazing it is that they will only have the chance to play with the new pokemon and not build their usual teams again. Then they droped another 200.

HG&SS hands down is my favorite when it came out it was just such a great time fr, the poke walker was so cool and being able to travel between kanto and johto was amazing. After hg&ss you havent been able to travel between region’s since, hopefully gamefreak can bring that back.

My favorite game has to be HGSS: it's the game I always come back to, the following pokemon are just so charming, it's a perfect balance of challenge (looking at you Whitney and Red) and casual gameplay. Also some of the graphics are just stunning, like the trees out side of bell tower are breath taking. There is also a whole second game in the post game. My least favorite has to be Sun and Moon: I have never been able to play these through all the way. I finally was able too beat alola in USUM but this game just felt like such a departure in the worst ways. The lack of gyms was hard for me to get over, and the story felt bare and obvious to me. USUM was a far better version of the series and I am happy it came out because it showed me what the region had to offer.

As someone who started playing pokemon with X and Y, I dont really understand why people hate them that much. They introduced a lot of things that made the series more interesting in my opinion, one example being the trainer customization. While I can agree the post game wasnt that good, it was still way better than R/G/B/Y.

Gen 5 was in a weird spot. Going back, you can tell how much love was put into it by GameFreak. It had an interesting concept, introduced several new battle modes, season cycle, fully animated sprites, lots of in game events, introduced hidden abilities and made the games connected to that website they used to have (I forget what it was called). I think what turned people off at the time, was at least half the unova dex looked like shit, everyone was tired of fire/ fighting starters, a lot of the music was weird. But most of all, it followed D/P/Pt and HGSS. Gen 4 is really looked well upon for most the community, I don't think anything would have been able to follow Gen 4 particularly well

To be fair, a lot of the current player base that was like 11 or 12 during the Gen 5 prime weren’t really old enough to enjoy what we would consider sophisticated concepts for literal children at that age. I had to bust out the dictionary to define “liberation” for me and it took me reading the Black and White manga to put it together. I just think a lot of the people that played Gen 5 were too young to understand and subsequently appreciate it.

It was hard for me to pick a favorite game without nostalgia, so I’m just going to describe as a generation. Gen 6 was my favorite gen. I think the new Pokémon added we’re all perfect (and before someone brings up klefki and carbine I think every generation has 1 weird Pokémon and 1 Pokémon that only makes sense w lore like delibird and oricorio for example), I think mega’s were perfect, and I think the Oras hoops portal requirements were fun to find out without a guide. My least favorite was gen 7. I couldn’t figure out y I hated it so much, bc it was the first hype season I ever experienced, but then I realized that was the problem. I knew my team before I even opened up sun and moon. Let’s go and USUM basically killed my interest in Pokémon, so I didn’t even buy sword and shield until 2 weeks after it came out and that’s the moment I realized. Bc I was so out of the Pokémon scene, the selection screen was the first time I ever saw the starters or even a gen 8 Pokémon. I didn’t know any evolutions, I literally just picked grookie because he was playing the drums on the fruit in the cutscene which I thought was cool. I think Pokémon needs to keep their dex reveals to a minimum for gen 9.

X & Y / Gen 6 were easily the worst games. Not only were they lacking in content, but they started the trend of post-games effectively being removed from the franchise. X & Y sorta have the post-game excuse because they were the initial versions, similar to Ruby & Sapphire - the problem was when they copy & pasted the Battle Maison to ORAS then trolled us with Battle Frontier statue. Almost as if they were saying “we know we should’ve put in the game but we’re just not going to”. Think about it: The Pokémon Company didn’t even make a Pokémon Z because they couldn’t be bothered to give af about Gen 6 - by default, X & Y have to be the worst because they were the only game to not get a third version to fix all their problems.

If we're outright excluding the latest ones, then B2W2 is my favorite. BW are amazing games, and B2W2 are awesome continuations of them with even more to offer. Honestly, it's a close race, but I think what puts B2W2 over the top for me is the PWT, which I consider to be the best battle facility we've ever seen. Instead of these Battle Tower-style deals with all this emphasis on frankly unreasonable winning streaks, and the stress of a lengthy winning streak going down the toilet because the AI decided that battle #49 is when the enemy's gonna land three consecutive Sheer Colds or whatever... Eugh. Meanwhile, the PWT has a short, sweet, visually appealing tournament format. The nostalgia factor is but icing on the cake- it's just a few battles. You win, you get BP. You lose, your consolation prize is a shard, which is used as currency for the move tutors, so it's effectively win-win. And it has the type specialist tournaments, I think there's a rental mode... It's got basically everything, and it needs to come back. Least favorite is USUM. Now, I do like USUM, and I agree they made some very cool improvements. Ultra Recon Squad? Awesome. The Ultra Necrozma battle? Exactly the sort of insane challenge we've been craving. Poipole and Naganadel? Objectively cool. Ultra Warp Ride? Fun as all hell. Rainbow Rocket? Insanely cool! So why are these my least favorite? Well... they butchered Sun and Moon's story, man. Lillie gets cheated out of going to Exeggutor Island with you, even going so far as to giving you two different ways to basically tell her to stay at Seafolk Village and let you handle things, when the scene with the player and Lillie at Exeggutor Island was one of my favorite parts. And then we also get cheated out of seeing Lillie lay into Lusamine about her being a terrible mother and an awful person! And as if that weren't enough, the wild battle music and Trainer battle music are straight downgrades from what Sun and Moon had! Like, again, they're not _bad,_ but I can't in good conscience consider them improvements. USUM brought a lot of awesome stuff to the table, I ain't denying that. But Sun and Moon told a great story, and USUM trying to tamper with it... I can't overlook that, I'm sorry. Perhaps if they were done as sequels instead, I'd have a way more favorable opinion of them. I do still like them, but I just think their few flaws are entirely too glaring for me to overlook, even with the help of all that they did right.

My favourite pokemon game is Oras but so far my least favourite is SwSh. Reason being because I loved the environment of hoen (the whole tropical, rainy weather really clicks with me), the new character designs of Maxie and Archie and the plot over all and the post game although short was a lot of fun for me plus the hoopa rings scattered around the world was nice. The reason why SwSh is my least favourite is because the plot didn't really grab me, there was also no evil team to actually give me like a drive or an actual purpose they just felt like obstacles. Also the fact that I got to see the Champion too early also ruined it for me, he also didn't give me the vibe of a champion y'know. But hey that's just my opinion I would add more but I don't think anyone would read this since it's so late

Bw and b2w2 is the most ambitious i feel like gamefreak has ever been and it paid off. The sheer amount of content still has me coming back today. XY had a fun albeit bare bones campaign. Megas were the coolest addition in any pokemon game. But it suffers from a boring story and barren post game. Most of my time in gen 6 was spent on Showdown.

Favourite: emerald and XY. Emerald is the game I have most hours in together with blue. Ive played Emerald from my 12th all the way to my 28th and still nuzlocke the game. XY is what brought me back to Pokémon. The 3D creation of Pokémon was nearly the same feeling as we now have with open world Pokémon in Legends (my future favourite game I'm sure). And the environments were all amazing and different. Least favourite: BW. I loved the story of these games. Even bought a physical copy which is expensive in my country. I even love a lot of the BW Pokémon too. But the game play is so slow... Even the walking animation of both dp and bw are so slow. BW are the only games that I had to push myself through. And even though I don't want to hate on BW as it probably has the best story in the series in my opinion so far. Story can only get you so far if the game itself is just not motivating to play... I also can't seem to remember too many of the environments in the game aside from the fall paths with falling leaves.

HG/SS is absolutely an S-tier game. The only beef I have with the game is the unnecessary long Team Rocket subplot, the really bad level curve, annoyingly slow battles, and slow early game.

I think my favorite is Black 2 and White 2. It picked up the story where Black and White left off really well, giving us both old and new exciting characters. I liked that the pokémon you could find were still mostly from Unova, but you also got access to other options. And the PWT was just very awesome. My least favorite is X and Y. They had plenty of good things about them, but it was so easy to overlevel and a lot of the big opponents had too few pokémon, making it way easier than it should have been.

The reason that i love Black and White is because I feel like it was the biggest jump in the pokemon formula since red and blue. It started to take its storytelling a lot more serious, even at the cost of making it a little less "fun" but a little more emotional

My favorite game is Platinum with ORAS and Emerald being very close behind. I simply love the regions of Sinnoh and Hoenn because of the Pokémon designs, the stories and the Leagues. If I ever feel like playing a game again, they're always the first ones that comes to mind. My least favorite would have to be all of the games with Kanto. I've just grown bored of the region as a whole and I can't see myself replaying a game with that region and actually enjoying it.

My favorite Pokemon game(s) because they are tied for me are Pokemon Black and White and Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 I don't know. I just love Unova. I always liked Pokemon as a kid but Unova is what made me love it. I remember being in elementary school and picking up one of my favorite books of all times; "Pokemon Adventures: Black and White Vol. 1" I watched gameplays of the game and just fell in love with everything. All of the pokemon, the characters, the story, the fact that it made ten year old me think deeply about the right and wrongs of this game, the different cities, the seasons, the legendaries, and the lore. I fell in love with it and Reshiram has been my favorite legendary since. Reshiram, Emboar, Braviary, Musharna, Galvantula, Carracosta, Zoroark, and so many other Pokemon hold special places in my heart. Then we go to B2W2 where it's a direct sequel. God, I loved that so much too. Returning characters, new towns that are so beautiful, you can access older gen Pokemon a lot sooner, how much more different the versions are, Ghetsis is still a jerk but a bigger one now, our favorites returned, Kyurem, the new gym leaders, Hugh, the swag, and just ughhhhh everything. My least favorite is probably Sword and Shield but I still love them. I truly love every Pokemon game and honestly I was so happy and pumped during my first run of Sword and Shield and I still love playing the game. It's just that was the game that I didn't get the most out of it when I walked away. I still love it. I just didn't walk away with the most. It reminded me a lot of XY but I preferred megas, their plot, the story in general, the professor, and it made me cry. Also it had that emotional song in the credits. What I did love about SwSh was Leon, Hop, and some of the new Pokemon.

Black and white, for sure. The story is amazing, genuinely interesting and exciting. The characters felt like they had so much depth, even the gym leaders. It's the only gen I can confidently remember each gym leader and what order they're in. The story is still one that sticks with me today, and is just as good as I played it as a kid. Even better, since as an adult I can appreciate it more. not to mention the soundtrack! Meanwhile, SW/SH was my least fav. I can barely remember the story, what little of it there was. I constantly felt like a side/background character, especially when Leon ran off and sorted the dynamax pokemon issue instead of us. It's just not memorable. Hop is a typical side character and lacks depth.

It's hard for me to take my rose-tinted glasses off for questions like this. Black version was the first game I ever played and is still my favorite to this day, and I genuinely believe it's a masterfully done game, but it's hard for me to tell how much of my love for it is blind nostalgia and how much of it is real love. I can't think of any games I disliked...I kind of hated USUM at the time because I just felt like I was playing SM all over again with no changes, but a few years later I finally went back and finished it, and it's...serviceable. Especially the new stuff like Necrozma and the evil team stuff that I won't spoil, just in case. Because of that...I dunno, I'd have to say Red/Blue are my least favorites? I just recently started a playthrough of FireRed, and so far I'm liking it fine. I actually own Red on my 3DS as well, but I still haven't finished it. I'm a big Metroid fan as well, and Pokémon feels like a similar situation to me: I really liked Samus Returns when it came out (a 3DS remake of "Metroid II: Return of Samus" on GameBoy), so I really wanted to go back and try playing through Metroid 2, but I just...can't. I just don't find it fun, it's too inconvenient and unsatisfying to play, I'd rather just go play the remakes again. I think Red/Blue are the same issue for me, so they're probably my least favorites because of that, even though I still hold respect for them since they started the entire series. Also, for the record, I didn't love or hate XY...I thought it was fine. Just another perfectly good Pokémon game. Sad to see the majority of people apparently don't feel the same

For SS+ & S tiers, I don't mind playing it over and over again. SS+ tier: Emerald, Oras, Legend(ofc) S tier: Red&Blue, BW2, FireRed&LeafGreen, Sw&Sh with the expansion pass, U.Sun/Moon, Platinium A tier: Ruby&Sapphire, Diamond&Pearl, BW, Heart.G/Soul.S, Sw&Sh without expansion pass B tier: Sun&Moon, Gold/Silver, Let's go C tier: Yellow, Crystal, XY The worst of all pokemon franchises: BDSP(it was a remake but they could have done better u know)🗿

'USUM was a spit in the face with the minimal amount of 'new content" they actually added' This has to be the biggest false statement in the community. USUM added the most changes than any other 3rd version in Pokemon by far. Seriously go look up the differences there's so many. The fact is people get mad because they got their hopes up because they thought it would be black and white 2 yet it only came out a year after sun and moon. What's annoying is these people who say usum didn't add anything hate x and y just because it didn't have volcanion or did anything with zygarde, bruh gen 7 did everything with zygarde and ya'll didn't care at all.
