Regional forms are gamefreak actually looking at real world biological divergence. it just fits rally well with the series. There is a reason the regional forms continues past gen 7. As awesome as Megas are, they really put the artist in a creative corner because you are asking them to make an already complete pokemon with even crazier forms.

From what I can recall, the "falling out" among the community truly began with USUM's reveal. Beforehand, people were universally hyped with every trailer, and the only thing that could really be considered pretty negative was some people disliking the pace of new information for Sun & Moon. But then the Ultra games were teased, and there was a whole thing about how they felt like a scummy cash grab due to how recent the originals still were. The first _major_ outrage-again, as far as I can remember. Ever since then, literally EVERY new Pokémon game has brought at least one substantial controversy, and overall negative impressions became far more widespread, to the point where you simply cannot miss them anymore.

Regional forms being unoriginal or something like that has to be one of the dumbest takes I've ever seen and it's surprisingly popular for some reason. Of course it's not a common opinion, even among the minorities but still, the fact that there're more than a dozen people who think like this is weird to me. Regional forms give old Pokémon new life and could make them stronger depending on their type combo and/or abilities.
@GoinGreninja
@GoinGreninja 2 жыл бұрын
@@thecod2345 Kinda but not really. Just because the pre-evo sometimes don't get the regional form doesn't mean it's lazy. It just means it has no reason to have it at this point since it's just fine as is right now but when it evolves, it has a reason to have it because of environmental pressure or what have you. Besides, thanks to regional forms, some Pokémon get the chance to have a regional evolution as well, making them both more memorable and more powerful. The obvious example being Hisuian Quilfish and Overquil.
@GoinGreninja

@@thecod2345 Fair enough. I understand wanting more significant looking regional forms and honestly, I like them too. But some of them being a bit conservative makes sense, especially Hisuian Goodra since he's literally a shy snail that doesn't wanna come out of his shell and he only does so when in other, less harsh regions. I hope they give us more significant ones this gen or if not, then make it like Hisuian Goodra where the minimal changes actually make sense.

oras are incredibly underrated games. gen 6 has really seemed to have gone through slander in recent years when all they used to get were love. oras did everything right besides not including the battle frontier which was a shame yeah but it really made up for it; new megas and integration to the story, better secret bases, better concerts, an expansive post-game that felt more like a fan-game with writing more reminiscent of bw/bw2 than xy, and while not necessarily a credit to the games themselves the peak of pokemon randomizers including your own and many many others, also gen 6 was the peak of shiny hunting too

My only controversial take is that Mythical pokemon and Mystery Gifts in general are pretty bad. I loved the old games where they would distribute an item that would take you to a new part of the map where you could then battle and capture that mythical. More recent games have just been throwing them around like confetti. I do like how the Sword and Shield DLCs have done them, with Keldeo being available through normal gameplay, and the Delta Episode in ORAS with Deoxys being available through normal gameplay. And the Zeraora event in Sword and Shield, where everyone had to defeat a million Zeraoras. I hope that this is evidence of things to come in Scarlet and Violet.

Too bad the coolest ones take forever to evolve. Seriously, what's so broken about Bisharp, Braviary, Mandibuzz, Mienshao, Vanilluxe, Volcarona, Hydreigon, etc that they evolve so late? The last 2 I can understand because they are pseudo-legendaries and are obtained late game, but level 64 is just too much. Even Dragonite evolves at level 55. Meanwhile other strong pokemon like Haxorus, the last stage of a 3-stage evolutionary line and with the second highest attack stat among non-legendaries at the time, could be obtained at a more reasonable level (48). Maybe these levels work on gen 5 games given how the storyline and accessibility of pokemon are structured, but when you take these pokemon out of Unova and put them in other settings, it completely messes up the grinding experience.

You know how Unova only had Pokemon introduced be available with Pokemon from previous gens be post-game only in Black and White? I think a downplayed version that includes old Pokemon as long as they got a pre-evolutuon, evolution, regional variant, or a regional variant that evolves into a new Pokemon would work well. I genuinely think that the dual game release is so heavily anti-consumer, but also what has been so integral in the Pokemon company's success. In Japan it makes a little more sense to have two games because spaces are very dense with other players and it encourages interactivity, but outside of those zones and in the rest of the world, it gatekeeps people from being able to complete the game properly. Having the pokedex uncompletable in any version of the game without having at least 1 other game (or several) is just frustrating. I've never liked it even as a kid. No parent wants to buy their kid multiple consoles and games just so they can "complete" it, so you're left then just wandering around in an perpetualy unfinished game forever. For me personally, I remember being the only kid who had pokemon in a rural setting with no internet. In either leaf green, platinum, or black version I had close to 500 hours in one save because I kept trying to find the other pokemon. I didn't know I couldn't complete it without the other games. Dexit was the single biggest push back against power creep in competitive, with strong Pokémon like Ash-Greninja not running around in OU anymore it lets other Pokémon work in its place. Unfortunately Game freak blamed the better story for being why it didn’t sell well and not the fact that people just weren’t interested in the new Pokemon themselves (which also sucks because I love a lot of the Unova Pokemon). Luckily they seem to be realising that we want a good story too since they went back to more mature with Legends Arceus. Hopefully it’s a sign of things to come!

It would be cool if each pokemon had a group of different idle animations, and every battle, the game randomly chooses one of the idle animations to use for that pokemon. For example, one battle has your Skarmory flying by flapping its wings. Then, the next battle, Skarmory is on its feet standing. I think having multiple idle animations that randomly are chosen for each pokemon would add a lot of variety visually (especially when considering that the same would apply to your opponents pokemon).

My take. It's terribly unbalanced. 1 Pokemon can steamroll an entire team if they get their buffs. I think buffs & debuffs should be limited to a certain number of turns. Too many duels are decided by 1 or 2 moves; Pokemon just faint far too quickly, moves do too much damage.

Gonna expand on the gen 2 being bad idea. Yes, it is. After being morty you could go straight to Pryce. You can do Pryce, Jasmine and Chuck in any order you want to. But they did a terrible job of balancing it. In my original playthrough, I evolved my quilava right after beating pryce. EDIT: Pryce was the last of the three I took on. "Just grind then!" Some people may say. Sure, I would if the wild encounters weren't 10 levels below me. The whole rematch mechanic is also a terrible way to train because of the number limit (Fixed in HgSs) and that it's entirely based on luck if the person challenges you or not. Also, all of the cooler gen 2 pokemon you can't even get until post-game. You want houndoom on your team? Beat Lance's cheat dragonites and catch an underleved houndour. Want a Tyranitar? Beat the kanto gym leaders and defeat lance again! It's a gen 2 mon, let me catch them in Johto ffs. Pretty sure HgSs safari zone fixes this problem, but it shouldn't have been a problem to begin with. Don't even get me started on how freaking annoying grinding for Red is. His pokemon are about 20 levels higher than anything you'll find there, and the wild encounters there are the highest level wild pokemon in the game, so have fun spending 5 hours to get 6 levels on anything. Bag limit was also annoying, but that was also fixed in the remakes. While HgSs fixed a ton of the issues I have with Gen 2, the balancing is still really wack. I have plenty of nostalgia for gen 2, but that does not excuse it's many shortcomings.

I just recently finished my playthrough of all of the games that I hadn't done, which included playing the original gen 2 games, and I agree with almost every point you bring up. The only one I have a personal disagreement with is the grinding for Red. My team spread was whack with a level 40-something Sudowoodo to my highest which was like a level 60-70 something (it's been awhile). After a lot of grinding, I had decided to just do grinding by straight-up fighting Red. It was a challenging battle, but I just barely managed to pull through by getting off a Dynamic Punch from the Sudowoodo to take out Snorlax before I could get my Feraligatr to start building up to sweep everything else. It personally really nice to have executed successful strategy to pull through against Red with a severely underleveled team, and it wouldn't have been the same if I was just able to grind easily. All that said, your view isn't wrong. For players who do want to grind, they should be able to without sinking hours fighting Ursarings and what-not. And I also recall feeling frustrated training post-blackthorn because of the low levels. I just wanted to share my experience with it.

Here's my contraversial take. The community is partially to blame for USUM and SWSH coming out the way they did. All the promotional material was pitching that we would be exploring an alternate timeline and implying huge differences in the story. Teasing Lillie being more active, teasing Hau being a much more serious trainer, etc. But the communtiy ignored all that and would not stop whining for the Switch game because they were actively upset that a fake leak that was never confirmed wasn't real (a leak that made NO sense to be anywhere close to real). I suspect they cut development for usum short in favor of rushing the switch game out the door and giving us the worst of both. Playing through USUM felt so much like they were working on something really ambitious.... and then just stopped. Like, not even a "we gotta wrap things up early" but just an abrupt no warning stop. Surely I wasn't the only one who felt there were changes and/or bits of story that were straight up missing right? Am I crazy?

Gen 8's biggest problem isn't as obvious as it seems. It's biggest problem is how stream lined it is. You are constantly holding forward and rarley feel like you are truly exploring galar, until the dlc. The reason the game feels so easy is also cause you never once struggled to think of where to go or found a hidden area or route or completed a side quest that felt super rewarding. Had they made the routes more interconnected and made it so that the galarian forms and dynamax holes were rare to find and could be found through side quests instead of just a low encounter rate on a route it would have felt much more rewarding. Also the difficulty, the trainers needed to be level boosted, have stronger moves, especially considering how easy it was to obtain high level or rare pokemon in the wild area. The thing I would have liked to see most is the gym leaders dynamaxing early on in the battle similiar to how often in vgc battles players dynamax turn 1-4. Because you would always save your dynamax for their last pokemon knowing thats when the gym leader would dynamax all sense of strategy is destroyed. Imagine if milo had just lead with his eldegoss dynamaxed turn 1 and killed like 3 of your pokemon in the first 3 turns, how cool would that be. I want my team to get wiped sometimes more like the ultra necrozma fight.

I mean, Incineroar took over the game when he was reintroduced and single handedly made my Sir'Fetched team go from niche but still able to tangle with Meta to zero viability. Regieleki and grassy glide Rillaboom were even worse though. When the power level average gets too high, only top level power levels can compete, it feels like. I had masterball tier teams that couldn't get into Ultraball by with each DLC release. That said, Gamefreak could just make limited dex metas, though I prefer they just put a battle simulator into Pokemon Home, so 100% of national dex can still battle through PH.

I agree with the nat dex being bad for competitive. If we look at early swsh pre dlc, there were so many cool and unique strategies that could work because they weren’t competing against some of the strongest legendaries of all time, they were competing against other, weaker strategies. As soon as DLC came out, people then start having to run legendaries because they instantly lose to people who are using full teams of legendaries. Even though you have more options, you have less options because of opportunity cost.

Unpopular Opinion: X and Y had the potential to be some of the best games in the series if they actually had the time to finish the game. I mean if you look up all the missing content there was a lot more potential. I also loved the art style, skates, customization, and setting of the game. It was also the first 3d game so they actually had to make the models for all the pokemon so I know X and Y weren't a result of a lazy team it was the result of them trying to push another game out too fast.

I've heard some serious bad takes before. An honorable mention goes to someone who said all legendaries should gain a "legendary" type, which could be weak to things such as normal and bug type to "balance them." But even that doesn't compare to the two objectively worst take I've ever seen from actual people: One: That certain pokemon need to be "retired." That Game Freak should come out, look at about, I think the guy said a quarter of the current pokemon, and come out and expressly say "These pokemon will never be in another pokemon game ever again." He said it would be a way to cut down on the pokemon no one likes (which is flawed logic in general, because every pokemon is at least one persons favorite,) and make future games easier. He wasn't saying Dexit in the way of make it where each game only has 400 ish pokemon no, he was saying to axe them from the series as a whole. Forever. Two: That legendaries should be so difficult to obtain, they should be locked behind a 100+ hour quest line, and you should only be able to obtain 2-3 per game file, even if the game had as many legendaries as black and white. The guy cited a few reasons, namely two: that nowindays 5 year olds can just wonder trade and get shiny legendaries and they mean nothing (which is a problem that making them rarer would not solve because they're all hacked in anyway) and that it would make them basically bragging rights, being able to say "oh i went through everything and finally got mewtwo" (which is something that would still not exist due to the hacking issue, and in fact turn more people to hacking.) I found these both in a thread a long time ago and they both stuck to me, and constantly remind me "Well at least I'm not that guy."

As someone who started with red and blue in the late 90's I can also agree (well probably cuz I was a kid) that the game had some creepy vibe to it, it kinda goes back to the controversy about the lavender town original audio causing kids to commit suicide (or something like that I don't know the whole story) something about red and blue and the music and the vibe playing it as a kid just gave off a really off put setting. Then again thats just some people's perspective and opinion on it, everyone is different But yes the anime was way more kid friendly and goofy lol

I think it's because of the lack of graphics. pokemon origins does a good job showing that gen 1 does have a creepy undertone, but as a game in its entirety is wholesome. I mean, the kanto anime also has pretty creepy moments/undertones with sabrina's episodes for example.

2 notes about the competitive one. 1: having the pokedex cut reduces the power creep which overall makes a larger perentage of the available pokemon potentially viable, although the crown tundra specifically undid that. 2: having a cut pokemon can remove some of the best or most notable pokemon of the previous generation and removing them from the competitive scene will give a different feel to the competitive scene between generations

i really like the art style of Sword and Shield. as an artist and character designer myself (as well as a long-tim Pokémon fan), there's a lot of things i like with these games. the vibrant colors, the lighting, the shading, the atmosphere, the character designs (except Leon, he's ugly (quite hot, yes, but designwise, UGLY)), and the Pokémon - well, _most_ of them. Greedent is gross. literally the only visual problem with SwSh is terrain really seen from far away (which isn't really a problem, except for a few places like the view from the bridge on Route 5). i seriously don't get why people are complaining THIS MUCH. sure, the story kinda sucks, but that isnt even the focus of the game. the things it focuses on, i think it does great. and either way, nothing's perfect, NO MATTER how good something is there will always be something to complain about, especially for some people. just TRY, PLEASE, to just ENJOY THE GAMES, and STOP COMPLAINING so Froakie-ng much, thanks for coming to my TED talk or somethin i dunno lol

I always have thoughts about that Mega-max evolution concept TTar mentioned, except with Lucario not Charizard. How insane would it be if Lucario had Bond phenomenon/battle bond and you could Gigantmax, mega evolve, and Bond form all at once? Lucario was the first ever Pokémon to mega evolve according to lore, so over centuries it develops higher capability of forming bonds with trainers, especially with innate ability to read Auras. In the anime, you could have it that this form can only last for one move, and if you make that move a Z-move it would instantly break the Z-crystal after use.
