In the right hands the PPG reboot could’ve been good! Sadly, it was manned by a bunch of idiots who wanted to leech of the OG series’ legacy, thought you needed smartphones and memes to make a cartoon today’s kids can enjoy, had no regard for what made the OG series so good, cared about nothing but profit, UGH! The PPG reboot is Cartoon Network’s 2nd worst show EVER, behind TTG!!

It's like the fifth and sixth seasons foreshadowed the reboot, terrifically. Like, had I not known that the Powerpuff Girls' original run had these in it, I'd be like, "Oh, the reboot decided to change its artstyle." Oh, and the Mayor would do Toast of the Town in the reboot, just way more annoying, with pickles.

...It sounded like you said that the new PPG is trying to teach morals. Did they forget that every episode opened with a little girl punching the devil, who is in fishnets, so hard a tooth falls out? Why? I mean, at least Teen Titans Go isn't in complete defiance of what the original was about.

Most of the worst episodes of the original PPG were in its final two seasons. At that point the show had gone on for years and it was clear they were short on ideas and the series was past its prime. The reboot just started off wrong. All wrong. The twerking, the infamous transgender episode, lazily writing off Ms. bellum...all within its first ten episodes.

Wouldn't be nice if Craig McCracken made a sequel episode to Toast Of The Town called Three Girls & A Mayor where it explains why The Mayor was acting like a baby and wanting more Cherry Toast than Pickles in that episode by showing that while he was giving Townsville City Hall a new coat of paint he slipped on a paint roller brush and hit his head on an anvil causing him to act like what I said before and Professor Utonium & Ms Bellum request the girls to babysit The Mayor while they try to run the city. A bunch of shenanigans ensue ending with the mayor hitting his head on an another anvil near a Cucor's Pickles store causing him to black out. But thankfully he is revived by the power of pickles and begins to act like his old self again.

4:39 I haven't finished watching the video just yet, but I had to comment on this. Shorter version: I agree with Pieguy and I believe Ren and Stimpy to be the worse at long pauses in episodes. Longer, more explained version (You have my respects and appreciation if you read and reply on the points I made here): In a lot of cartoons, mainly 90's, have a lot of really slow and long pauses in them. I do agree with Pieguy here on just the Powerpuff Girls, but they're not the biggest offenders of this. The one show I consider to do this the most, and possibly the ones who started it, it Ren and Stimpy (Side note: Not sure if Pieguy ever watched it, probably to given his laid back personality). There are some moments in a number of episodes (including Adult Party Cartoon) that have whole scenes that drag on for far too long. I know that John K's animation is very expressive and you can tell they put work into making it, but there is a point were even professional cartoonist need to know when enough is enough. Even in Toy Story there were a few deleted scenes that were left out, as they slowed down the pace of the story. With that scene, it does have some progression, but the scene in question holds on to details that has already been covered in the movie. It just goes more in-depth with it. Going back to R&S, it's too much and it creates a long and tedious experience. I doubt it after what happened, but if John K does somehow get back into making cartoons, I hope he and his company no longer do what they did back in the 90's. R&S is still enjoyable, but long pause found in the show is something I hope we never see again. I am not animator, but in any show, every second counts and they should use most of the time to further things along. Side things are okay, but the pace still needs to be considered. Links: The Toy Story deleted scenes in question: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j4XCgWhvd5plmrc Example of a scene from Ren and Stimpy*: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpPQlmOApb2Ei8k *It's suppose to build tension, but it's still too slow in some regards. With that, if you read all this crap, your eyes may now rest. I am so sorry... maybe...

I actually liked “A Very Special Blossom.” It’s actually the only believable, consistently in character, fair, and sympathetic centric where one of the girls commits a crime. It’s even executed better than “Bubblevicious” to me because in that episode Bubbles goes way off the rails in to ooc borderline psycho territory, then pays nothing for her crimes at the end because she is “the cute one.” The sheer amount of mean-spirited character assassination of the entire Utonium family and the double standards against Buttercup when she gets punished for her crimes at the end of “Moral Decay” is just inexcusably awful. It really is for the best to pretend that episode never happened for me, which is thankfully exactly what the show did, too, because if there is one episode in canon that makes everyone in the Utonium family come across as too uncharacteristically dysfunctional and fucked up to come back from believably as family, particularly in regards to their their treatment of Buttercup, then it’s “Moral Decay.” The idiot ball that Ms. Keane and Professor Utonium got in “Daylight Savings” was frustrating, but at least the episode had some genuinely funny moments and the Professor let the girls go save the day at the end. I actually don’t mind “Town n Out,” though the idiot ball the Professor got was mildly frustrating, but at least he realized he was wrong and they moved back to Townsville again at the end. “Fallen Arches” was just stupid.
@Schoolgirl3253 жыл бұрын
@@mariajimenafigueroa233 I actually loved “Uh Oh, Dynamo.” Yeah, Professor Utonium was kind of overreacting in his fears about losing the girls when they were fighting crime, but, even though they DO have superpowers that allow them to easily recover and take on much more damage and injury much more than the average person, the girls ARE still risking their lives when they go out to fight monsters and villains. USUALLY, the risk of the girls being killed when fighting bad guys and monsters to save the day was MINIMAL, but that doesn’t mean it still didn’t exist. Also, within the context of the “Uh Oh, Dynamo” episode, the girls actually DID seem to genuinely need the D.Y.N.A.M.O fighting robot to beat the giant fish balloon monster. They didn’t need the robot to fight crime nearly as much as their dad insisted they did in a regular basis, but, at least in the case of the giant fish balloon monster, it seemed like they genuinely DID need the Dynamo robot to stop it. Yeah, the robot created a lot more collateral damage than just the girls would have in using their superpowers alone to fight the fish balloon monster, which sucks, but that robot also seemed to have saved his kids lives in this particular instance. Also, I know that in real life, there would be actual lives lost in this sort of situation, and the city being destroyed as collateral damage would be far worse, but am I the only one who was kind of annoyed by just how immediately angry the Mayor and the rest of the city were at the girls and Professor Utonium for using the DYNAMO robot. I get being annoyed that the city was destroyed as collateral damage by that robot, but the girls were trying to save the city from a far worse threat. However, the Mayor is always calling on the girls to save the day, but he and most of Townsville rarely ever seem to actually consider the fact that, even with their superpowers, Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup still aren’t completely indestructible little girls. The only one who actually seems to understand the fact that Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup AREN’T completely indestructible little girls, who are still selflessly RISKING THEIR LIVES to save the city they live in, is Professor Utonium, even if said risk is minimal. It’s also not like the Mayor and the rest of the city hadn’t seen the girls nearly killed fighting crime for them before “Uh Oh, Dynamo” too. They even saw them nearly get killed by the RRB right in front of them, and actually wept over them when they thought they were dead. I get being annoyed by the collateral damage the robot caused in the city when the Professor made them use it to fight the giant fish balloon monster, but I also find it annoying that no one in the city, aside from their father, ever considers Blossom’s, Bubbles, and Buttercup’s safety, even though these girls are their heroes, RISKING THEIR LIVES to save them on a regular basis, which they just saw proof of in the previous episode when they were very nearly killed right in front of them in the “The Rowdyruff Boys.” Professor Utonium might be overprotective of the girls at times, but at least he still generally sees them as PEOPLE worthy of consideration, protection, and respect, not just seemingly indestructible little fighting machines with superpowers, who’s safety and lives it’s no big deal to consider risking on a regular basis to save the city.

I had a thought when you got to sweet and sour: I actually imagine if said episode was done in the reboot- I THINK if they did that, they'd make it so that it was the reverse- like the rest of the town is acting like the cute animals are the criminals they were, but the girls keep just making goo-goo eyes at them. I do agree though that out of all of them the uncle episode sounds the most generic character thing. Actually with the "Toast of the town" thing- why not just replace the mayor with an ACTUAL baby- like just a random baby wanders into the professors lab and downs a flask of chemical X?

“Moral Decay” was the worst in my opinion because it made both Buttercup and her entire family look very uncharacteristically bad for no other reason than to turn her into the villain and punching bag of disproportionate retribution that got framed as “justified.” Professor Utonium was *normally* a very attentive, kind, loving, protective, reasonably strict, and selfless dad to his three kids, sometimes to the point of being embarrassing, misguided, and overprotective, but he meant well in the OG cartoon. In the previous episode “PowerProf.” that aired before “Moral Decay,” he was even forcing Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup to wear helmets, elbow-pads, and knee-pads to go fight Mojo Jojo with him because he was afraid of them getting bruises, cuts, and scrapes, even though he knew were superpowered artificial human children with very quick recovery rates, who could handle more damage, injury, and pain than the average person, and he knew that they had taken on Mojo and other enemies far worse than him hundreds of times before with no sort of protective body equipment. On the *rare occasions* he did fail to do right by his kids, watch over them, or protect them, he would usually realize it at the end of the episode, feel guilty, try to fix it, or express remorse, such as in “Daylight Savings,” “A Very Special Blossom,” “Keen on Keane,” and “Coupe’detat.” But the writers of “Moral Decay,”’ ironically who were Craig McCracken and Lauren Faust, expected me to believe that *same dad* would not notice that one of his kids was gathering a huge stash of money for roughly twelve days in the timeline, and then come across as very uncharacteristically indifferent about the fact that she got seriously hurt by all the villains she knocked the teeth from out of for profit, at least in part, because he failed to notice what was going on sooner, and put a stop to it sooner? You could make an assumption for the best case scenario being that Blossom and Bubbles didn’t get punished by him for selling out Buttercup to get beat up because they never told him about their involvement in the set up, but even still, his seemingly indifferent reaction to one of his *daughters* being hurt is the most *horribly out of character* Professor Utonium ever has been on the OG show. I feel like if Buttercup had just gotten her teeth knocked out by every villain she knocked the teeth from out of for profit in the city in a cruel twist of fate, or the Mayor had called Blossom and Bubbles to stop Buttercup from committing a crime of knocking out teeth, and they were reluctantly forced to beat Buttercup up to stop her with the “eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth” philosophy, then I still would have been pissed about the character assassination, but I might have been able to let it slide because then it at least wouldn’t feel so infuriatingly hypocritical in a world that condones the girls using physically violent retributive justice to stop criminals and give them their “just desserts.” It also would have been nice if Professor had been more in character, still being disappointed in her, but also expressing some concern over Buttercup being hurt, and expressing some guilt over not picking up on what was going on sooner, so he could have put a stop to it. However, the fact that they had Blossom and Bubbles team up with Mojo and every villain Buttercup knocked the teeth from out of in the city for profit, including the ones she was legally within her rights to beat up at the time in universe to stop from actively committing crimes in universe, even while he was holding the Mayor hostage in his office, then framed them as “justified” for watching it happen on the sidelines and reveling in their sister’s suffering afterwards, was completely out of character, hypocritical, and fucked up. That really pissed me off. The fact that Professor Utonium didn’t seem to feel concern for Buttercup over getting injured, or feel bad himself for not noticing what she was up to sooner, and, thus, failing to put a stop to it before she got the idea to start committing crimes for profit and got her teeth knocked out by every villain in the city she knocked the teeth from out of for profit, was *painfully out of character* for him. Yeah, “Moral Decay” was one of those unforgivably bad episodes from the classic PPG cartoon that I pretend never happened, and thankfully, so does the show, because Buttercup pretty much goes back to having mostly normal and happy relationships with her sisters and her dad again right after “Moral Decay,” and the episode is *never* mentioned or referenced in the series *ever* again. Seriously, the level of mean-spirited character assassination in “Moral Decay” was so awful that the only way to make it credible in canon would be to reveal that it was another “Tough Love” scenario where HIM had hypnotized everyone to be evil again.

Thankfully the PPG reboot seems to be ending soon! Because the PPG reboot is hated by many and the show itself seems to be so self-proud, I actually feared it would do its own version of TTG!’s 4th wall episode and criticize the original show, even using footage from A Very Special Blossom to present OG Blossom as a criminal, and pretending Town and Out did NOT end with the girls & professor moving back to Townsville! It does seem like the sort of thing the reboot would do, since it doesn’t follow the source material, knows it’s being criticized and doesn’t care! If I ran Cartoon Network, I wouldn’t have allowed these bad PPG episodes to be made, and Town and Out might even have gotten McCracken fired!
@Schoolgirl3253 жыл бұрын
I always thought “Moral Decay” was the most horribly out of character episode for the entire Utonium family from the OG cartoon. I don’t necessarily have a problem with Buttercup’s punishments in and of themselves at the end of the episode because she was being a greedy and unsympathetic little monster in the episode, which was completely out of character for a little girl, who was normally portrayed as being a jerk with a heart of gold otherwise. However, at least I could understand *why* the writers made the choice they did with Buttercup’s mischaracterization in the episode to teach a moral that greed leads to one’s downfall. I do have a problem with the *wildly OOC* and *needlessly* mean-spirited ways in which Buttercup’s punishments were delivered in “Moral Decay,” however. I do have a problem with the fact that Blossom and Bubbles very sadistically sold Buttercup out to get her teeth knocked out by every villain in the city that she knocked the teeth from out of, only to watch it happen from the sidelines, and completely got away with it. Sure, they didn’t let the villains kill her, and Buttercup will recover quickly because she is a super-powered artificial human child living in a cartoon where the characters very easily and quickly fully recover from getting injured horribly in ways that would be seriously debilitating or even fatal in real life all the time. However, that doesn’t make Blossom and Bubbles selling Buttercup out to get her teeth knocked out by every villain in the city much better. I understand that the PowerPuff Girls are antiheroic vigilante crime fighters, who practice the “eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth” course of physical retributive justice against criminals in a universe that condones it, and I understand that Buttercup was not a very sympathetically motivated criminal in “Moral Decay.” However, it’s not like Blossom and Bubbles got a call from the Mayor, telling them that Buttercup was knocking out the teeth of innocent citizens for profit, so they fly reluctantly to the scene of the crime to beat her up to stop her and punish her. Yeah, in real life, that would also be illegal, but within universe that would pretty much be fair play. You would also get a scene of Blossom and Bubbles feeling reluctant about feeling obligated to hurt their sister to punish her for being a criminal, which would be interesting. Instead, it appears that the Mayor is being held hostage by Mojo Jojo in his office, and Blossom and Bubbles apparently got recruited by him to set Buttercup up in a trap to get her teeth knocked out by him and every other villain in the city she knocked the teeth from out of. They appear to be completely okay with enabling crimes that endanger the completely innocent Mayor to set their sister up in a trap to get beat up as comeuppance, which is not in character, unless you assume he’s actually in on it, but it’s still shitty. I have a problem with the fact that Professor Utonium, who was always so concerned about his super-powered children getting hurt in battle against monsters and villains that he even forced them to wear helmets, elbow-pads, and knee-pads in the previous episode “Powerprof.,” suddenly didn’t seem too concerned that one of his little girls had just gotten really hurt at the end of “Moral Decay,” just disappointed. That was the most *atrociously out of character moment* Professor Utonium had ever had in the show. He was always worried about his kids safety and well-being, sometimes to the point of overdoing it, and he was always concerned when they were hurt, even though he was fully aware that his little girls were super-powered crime fighters, who could easily recover from horrible beatings and injuries that the average person could never survive in every other occasion he had seen them hurt or in danger otherwise. Unless we assumed that he never found out what Blossom and Bubbles did to actively set Buttercup up in a trap to get beat up for comeuppance because they never told him all the details, then it doesn’t make any sense as to why they aren’t punished at the end of “Moral Decay,” too. It makes it look like he condones what they did to sell out their sister, if we assume that he *did find out* about the role Blossom and Bubbles played in setting up Buttercup in a trap to get beat up, which is *completely out of character* for Professor Utonium. Also, according to the wiki, Buttercup knocking out teeth for profit took place over a rough 12 days in “Moral Decay,” and apparently her family *only* noticed what she was doing after Mojo told Blossom and Bubbles, who then told the Professor. She had a giant monster tooth under her pillow one night? How did no one notice? It was also generally a recurring trait of the Professor’s in the series to come to recognize it in the *rare instances* when he failed to be there for his kids, protect them, or encourage them not to make bad choices after getting called out, or seeing evidence that made him realize the error of his ways, such as in “Daylight Savings,” “Town n Out,” “A Very Special Blossom,” “Keen on Keane,” or “Coupe’detat.” He would get called out for doing wrong by them, or something would happen that snapped him out of it, then he would feel guilty, and take some responsibility for it. I wasn’t getting any of that from his wildly ooc cold reaction to Buttercup’s downfall at the end of “Moral Decay,” though, which was *entirely out of character* for him. He had every right to be disappointed in Buttercup and punish her for what she did in that episode, but to not even express any concern about whether she was actually feeling alright or not? To not express even *partial guilt* for her downfall in not figuring out was going on sooner, so he could have put a stop to it? Yeah, I don’t buy that. His character assassination was by far the most painful part of “Moral Decay” because he was usually a reasonably adult, and he usually was portrayed as being a pretty good parent to the girls otherwise. The fact that the writers derailed him to do that needlessly mean-spirited plot for Buttercup in “Moral Decay” really pissed me off. Overall, though, the quality in writing definitely did drop on the show after S4 and the 2002 movie after Craig McCracken’s departure, but I still insist that the worst episode on the show, during his time running it, was “Moral Decay.” Ironically, he and Lauren Faust actually wrote that segment. I don’t know what they were thinking when they wrote that segment because it genuinely did leave a bad taste mouth with just how painful the sheer amount of exceedingly mean-spirited character assassination of the entire Utonium family in that episode was. No matter who their favorite Puff of the three girls is, I know the majority of the fandom feels the same way about “Moral Decay,” so we pretend it never happened. It was like Craig McCracken and Lauren Faust genuinely hated Buttercup’s character when they wrote “Moral Decay.” The show could be dark in the McCracken era, but “Moral Decay” crossed the line for me because of just how dirty they did Buttercup and her relationships with her family in that episode to vilify her and punish her exceedingly like that.

@Rokenrol Bro 2019 I always thought the best solution would've been for Buttercup to use her money to pay her victims' dental bills. At least then she'd be compensating them for their injuries.

Man, the way that you two talk about these episodes make them more funny then they actually are. "They shrink the mayor back down to normal size and leave him on top of a building." I wouldn't have mind if the reboots theme was "Everyone in towns an idiot, but the girls are super passive aggressive about it and do stuff like this all the time." I mean, you would still need a really good writer to make that enjoyable, but if it was done right, it could be super funny.

Honestly, from the examples you've given for the Professor being stupid it comes off more like he was playing along with his kids considering parents tend to do that with their children at their young age and since the Powerpuff Girls despite being in middle school are all in preschool age wise so I just put two and two together.

My worst PPG episodes list (I’ll add more if I see it) 1. Toast of the Town (The mayor acts like a baby) 2. Shut the Pup Up (The talking dog is annoying) 3. Sweet “n” Sour (The citizens treat the girls so badly and don’t apologize) 4. Daylight Savings (There are some filler parts and professor and miss keane don’t apologize) 5. City of Frownsville (The crying gets so obnoxious throughout the whole episode) 6. Say Uncle (The girls and the professor being idiots for not knowing that’s it’s not their uncle) I honestly need to rewatch it to make my opinion

I actually like The Mane Event and A Very Special Blossom. PowerPuff Bluff was funny to me because it was deliberately meant to be absurd. I don’t mind “Down ‘n’ Dirty” too much. Everyone was so atrociously out of character in “Moral Decay” in the Utonium family that I have to pretend it never happened, which, thankfully, is exactly what the show did too by never mentioning or referencing it ever again.
