The Cardinals actually did have a strong defense that year, save for a game or two, and they were with the Bears at the top of the league in getting takeaways if I remember correctly. The only game after this one that the Cardinals managed to win that year was a game where their defense ran back two pick-6s and also set their offense up at the opponents 5 yard line twice.

I was at this game. My brothers and I started a McElroy chant from the beginning of the game and it eventually turned into the entire stadium chanting his name. I'm sure they would have put them in eventually anyway, but i like to think we influenced the decision.
