The WWF / WWE Attitude Era is seen by many as the pinnacle of pro wrestling. Stars such as Steve Austin, The Rock, Mankind and D-Generation X flourished during this time period and the WWF produced some memorable matches and moments when they shifted their focus in terms of television content and target demographics. Some moments of the Attitude Era, however, don't hold up so well and some Attitude Era pay per view events aren't as good as what you may remember.
This video looks at the worst rated WWF Attitude PPVs in history. Events covered include the 2000 King of the Ring, WrestleMania XV, Fully Loaded 1998 and more.

Honestly, Over the Edge 1999 didn't even come to mind when I saw this video's title... and I think that's mainly because I'd prefer to NOT think of that event, due to what happened. So when I got to #1 & saw Over the Edge I thought "Oh, yeah, of course it'd be that", simply due to the fact that I kind of instinctively block its existence out of my mind, unless I have to think about it.

Same as you, I watched Over the Edge 1999 live and I felt sick, even though you never saw the incident. Just the sombre nature, the visible shock from the talent, and the way J.R. told us he passed away (God bless J.R., he was so professional and humane) just made me feel terrible. Rest in Peace, Owen Hart.

Its kinda hilarious though. You would never see the little Smark Tony Khan doing any of this, yet Vince was willing to do whatever he had to for the success of the company and to get over talent no matter how much punishment he had to take. Really shows how one actually loved his business and the other is just a trust fund smark smashing is wrestling figures together. Tony can't even book worth a damn, yet actually has guys like AA working backstage who could literally book things if he wasn't just playing booker.

OTE '99. One of the handful of times I got to spend with one of my older brothers before he passed. We got high as a kite and were really into the show. The stuff with Owen happened and we found ourselves putting the party aside and calling our siblings and parents to let them know we loved them so much. I lost him 2 years later to a heart attack and my oldest brother 3 weeks later to the same. Point: its cliché but no less true... Remind the ones you love EXACTLY how much you love them. The tragic passing of Owen Hart and how the WWE -- or rather more specifically how Vince McMahon -- dealt with it was the beginning of the end for me as an active wrestling fan. It was all just so appalling and it really helped kill off a lot of love I had and turned me into just a casual occasional viewer until I became a non-active nostalgic one. I love Wrestling Bios and Wrestling With Wregret for helping rekindle some fond nostalgia for the sport, but I sadly cannot bring myself to be an active fan anymore. 😢

The only people who still cry about how WWF continued the show are the ones that have never ran anything above a lemonade stand at best. It was a damned if they do, damned if they don't moment. But of course the armchair bookers always make sure they drone on decades later how they wouldn't have continued the show, because they have no clue how owning something successful works. Either decision would have been hard and, there would be people crying to this day whichever decision they made.

The problem with 1999 from a wrestling standpoint. The most important events to happened from a storyline perspective, happened in the first week. I don't care if Savage v Steamboat happened at the same PPV, that event deserves nothing but the lowest scores. @@mulldrifterz6469I definitely think it should be considered to have started in 1996, especially with how close Bash at the Beach and King of the Ring were. I was checking out a few customers as the incident happened. I was glued to the TV and so was the few people in line as wrestling was pretty big in our small town. We were in awe. The RAW after was the saddest RAW Ive ever watched next to eddies tribute (that may have been smackdown...I think they did both shows but its the one chris just breaks)

The worst part about the whole Over the Edge situation is that it's going to be hard for the WWF to wipe that PPV from existence because the biggest title in the company changed hands the same night of the incident that made said PPV infamous and notorious. Especially considering the gimmick Undertaker had in 1999, if they weren't going to cancel the show immediately after the fall, they could have postponed the title change until the next week on Raw or at the next PPV or even the night after would, if nothing else, help with erasing Over the Edge 1999 from the history books.

Just to note, the topic of "the show must go on" did come up prior, after Brian Pillman's passing, at which Owen, a longtime friend of Pillman from the Stampede days, did want the show to go on and had his match with Farooq at In Your House 18 just a few hours later. It's not quite a 1:1 situation but I believe anyone who knew him who says its what he would have wanted.
