How about "forgive your mistakes, remember the lessons". Forgiving myself for making a mistake, not getting something right, and failing are things I beat myself over for long periods of time. I would love to forgive myself, and remember that the world didn't end that one time I got something wrong at work.

This is so true. I've had this realization after 2 years of reading self-help books and watching productivity videos. I've always treated each book or video as a band-aid to the lack of motivation I had. I had the thought that one book or one video is going to change the trajectory of my life forever. But I realized that it's not the one book or the one video that changes a person, it's the consistency of showing up; it's the stacking amount of experiences that gradually improves our lives. I think it’s important to address the “pseudo depressive state” comment. If you find yourself in this kind of rut often, and/or really struggle to get yourself out, it might be a good idea to talk to a professional. If you are constantly in this loop of motivation and self-loathing/pity, why keep doing the same thing? There is no shame in getting help when you need it.

Psychiatrists are a scam. And this has nothing to do with "toxic masculinity" or shame or taboo or any of that. I have no reservations about asking for help or talking about feelings. But psychiatrists are a scam. They have two goals: to keep you coming back and to collect kickbacks from pharmaceutical companies for each prescription they write. Your well-being is not in their interest. Don't fall for the medicalization trap modern society tries to normalize to squeeze out every last penny out of mental illness.

I have thought this way for a long time, but now I came to a conclusion that doing both is the best alternative. Comparing you only to yourself can blind you because this way you won't have an outise reference to tell how big is your progress. I call it absolute progress and relative progress, the first one you can use to know big is your progress copared to others and the second is your current progress compared to what you had sometime beofre it. Doing so you'll be able to see the big picture allowing you to be aware of the whole situation, witch I think is essencial to make better decisions. No a native, ignore the gramma mistakes, pls.

I am in it right now. It's now been 10 weeks since my mother died. I need to pull it tf together. I did the lake jump (not an actual lake, I hoped on a plane...took an impromptu trip after mother's day... jumped in the car and drove 8 hours to Idaho for memorial day weekend)... even random daily stuff: painted a mural, learner how to make sushi 🍣 ...now I'm addicted to making my own sushi.. but my motivation is truly SO gone, that it feels like an uphill and rather pointless unrewarding battle... BUT if I'm going to feel this flat lined either way... I guess I might as well actually work on my studies. I may have just solved my own problem ..

I also want to chime in and say that processing grief or recovery in general is more like a whirlwind than a simple linear line. You will have good days. You will have bad days. Sometimes you'll be doing great for weeks or months and everything crashes down. The most important part is to acknowledge and process your feelings. Maybe keep a journal. Maybe have a trusted friend or therapist to bounce thoughts off of or express feelings towards. The second most important part is the conceit of this video: consistency and action towards a modified but new lifestyle. Everything you mentioned in your OP is perfect. These activities, hobbies, hangouts, sessions.. will help you stay grounded and help give purpose. But do not feel down on yourself if you don't feel up to it some days. Just try to get back to the things you love when you feel like it is time. I am truly sorry for your loss. It is in our weakest and most vulnerable moments that we are truly the strongest. You are loved!

Broke my leg Wednesday and everything in my life has been going down hill since. It really threw my life into a hard point. This helped a lot. It’s not oxymoronic. Sometimes we need to be reminded that we need to take action before things can improve. I’ve already known this. But I just got done with a hard argument with someone I love and it felt like things were hopeless. I didn’t know what to do. I can’t get outside or work out very easily anymore. I can’t do very much. I needed to be reminded that even though I can’t do very much (which oftentimes throughout the day feels like I can’t do anything) I can still choose to take action. Try to get things on track instead of playing the same old song I wrote months ago on guitar thinking I’m being productive.

My life rn is just what you've said. Ever since my grandmother died last year followed by my grandfather this year, I always get anxious about everything and anything. I also get a lot of frustrations focusing on things I really want but hard. I also get so insecure of trying to get a job because I might end up not doing it well. Your videos have been doing a lot for me just by watching and listening.

A month ago I was starting to question my goals in life and had a bit of a meltdown, along with that I had gone thru a breakup. During that period I spent a lot of time watching KZbin and looking for short-term comfort. I got a little tired of how I felt and I wanted a change. This week I've been spending my time reconnecting with old friends and I'm currently searching for a summer job. Seeing this video really helped me look forward to this new change.

You’ve no idea how much i needed to hear this, I’ve always disregarded the idea of the aha moment since i never thought I’d be affected by it, then lately it has turned out that perfectionism has grown to become my worst enemy, I couldn’t bring myself to doing anything until the final hours before the deadline, and was stuck trying to look for that cheatcode, that mindset shift that will hopefully change everything in my life for the better once and forever. Thank you so much for such a simple reminder that miracles aren’t real and life isn’t going to live itself… I’m still struggling to fight through perfectionism, my schedule is still a mess, but you brought me hope to look forward to a better tomorrow, I’ll keep moving forward, for whatever heaven or hell life is about to bring upon me, as long as I keep fighting, I know I won’t be dead.

This is a video I didn't know I needed. I used to be extremely "productive" a couple years ago, then I had an experience that stopped it and I haven't been able to get back to that productivity. The experience made me realize how bored I was with that lifestyle and how it had lost a lot of meaning. I think the reason I haven't been able to get back to that level of productivity (despite being able to in the past) is because every time I start down the productivity path again a part of me rebels. The part of me that knows how empty that routine life felt. Not sure how I can fix the problem in its entirety yet (though I suspect it has something to do with metaphorically jumping in a lake/river) but this video helped me understand the problem better. Thank you!

This mindset was what helped me out of my depressive state not too long ago. When I kept reflecting about how my parents would always say to “be positive”, over and over, I stopped and actually considered it and it’s taking me a little bit but I’m doing much better at implementing a new positive outlook on life. (Plus it helps that my blood type just so happened to be B+ lol and they kept pointing that out to me whenever I was negative). Your negativity just ends up clouding all the beautiful things that happen to you in life. So when I thought about all the times I lost focusing on the bad things I lose it on all the amazing moments in life. It’s just like the Pixar movie that came out, “Soul”. It really did feel exactly like that.

Man, the timing of finding this is impeccable. Been isolating, slowly devolving for the past while. It's finally caught up to where it is affecting my work. This weekend was slightly warmer and I knew I needed to get outside and get some sun. But I've been in such a funk that even going for a walk in the woods is sort a utilitarian thing I do for maintenance, and doesn't have the soul soothing effect it usually, or at least once did. I often feel this great pressure to be more productive, and yet procrastinate by playing chess online, or watching "one more youtube video", read one more article. I have ADHD and hyperfixation can be a godsend when it is something that I want and need to be doing, but those rarely seem to align. Yesterday, I decided my version of self-care would be just pull out a chair and sit in the yard with the sun on me and read a good book with a cup of tea. I definitely feel better today. Planning to start a routine tomorrow, and so this video was good timing and even though intellectually I knew those things, it is comforting and inspiring to hear that I'm not the only one. Thanks
