Its not a very bad movie, i dont think, but the change to the ending brings it down a LOT, makes it much worse. Escape from the planet of the apes i think is much much better tho

I disagree. I have not seen this film in a coupleof years. However, this is my second favorite of the series. I think the cinematography was great. The soiry was compelling and , although a bit heavy-handed I wqas engaged and the Ceasar character wis well written and (of course) well acted.

I thoroughly enjoyed this critique of the film! Your analysis offers a compelling breakdown of its thematic elements and cinematographic techniques. The way you highlighted the director's use of lighting and color to reflect the emotional undertones of each scene was especially insightful. However, I would have loved to hear more about the film's pacing and how it impacts the development of its central conflict. Was the slower second act a deliberate choice to create tension, or did it risk losing the audience’s engagement? Also, a brief comparison to similar works from the genre would have added an interesting layer to your analysis. Overall, great work - your passion for film is evident, and your critique sparks an intriguing discussion!

Stop being so sensitive, I say this as a black man the slavery metaphor was fine, especially at the time with how race relations were. Seeing young people recoil at the mere mention for racial issues makes me sad, we should be way past this trivial stuff, it’s worst than when I was growing up we are going backwards.

"Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it." The youths outright unwillingness to face the ugly parts of our past concerns me. Which this "dated" movie warns against! It feels like I'm living in the early phases of "1984!"

I completely agree. I’m a child of the ‘60s and ‘70s, and I saw CONQUEST at the theatre when it was first released. Even then, I understood the metaphors and the parallels of the rebellion scenes with the Watts riots (which is something that flies over the heads of the younger generation). Sensitive subject matter has always been a source for Science Fiction, as it was allowed in the genre whereas it wasn’t if portrayed straight-up and not hidden behind the guise of Sci-Fi. Younger folks don’t grasp the context of life before their time, and context is EVERYTHING.

billy, billy, oh billy! battle was the worst! the original cut they did kill the governor and Ceasars speech was so radical, the Blacks in the test audience was practically cheering kill whitey. they had to tune it all down (And cut out much more of the violence from the first take, ruining its chance for the Oscar)! the first half was slow and corny a bit, the last act was badass with a lot of action with the human being killed by the truck load, a real family film. the speech at the end was really good and the music track from the first movie made it hit home. very good work on your part billy, i liked it a lot.

Putting conquest last is wild in my opinion. it's not a great movie, don't get me wrong, but it's a whole lot better than beneath and escape (escape having no redeeming qualities) when i was watching the movies this was the only one (besides the original of course) that was interesting.

The film is not racist, but it does shine a light on racism. A film portraying racism does not make it racist, and the context of the time a film is made is of the greatest importance and significance. A word to the wise to younger folks: Never view an old film through contemporary eyes and mindset, or you’ll risk missing the point entirely. Know that today’s films will be ‘dated’ and criticized by future audiences. The point of CONQUEST isn’t to make anyone feel comfortable, just like accurate history isn’t intended to make us ‘feel good.’ The more unsavory aspects of history should make us think and teach us lessons so that we can (hopefully) create a better future. Feeling uncomfortable about history is the first step in whitewashing over it, and ultimately sweeping it under the carpet as history deniers often do. Your being so uncomfortable about this subject matter is an intellectual weakness, not a strength. Oh, and there’s absolutely NO parallel between an actual slave revolt and the non-slave domestic terrorists of January 6th. That moment in this video was in poor taste and not at all funny or cute. There is, however, a parallel between the ape uprising un CONQUEST and the Watts riots of 1965, which was intentional. I saw CONQUEST at the theater when it was first released, decades before RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, so I didn’t have RISE to fall back on and compare at the time. I thought (and still think) that CONQUEST is a great installment to a great film series. If any of the original POTA films fell short, it was BATTLE, which in the wake of CONQUEST was sanitized for the kiddie audience and had a made-for-TV feel to it. The first four films were an intellectual challenge, whereas BATTLE was mindless, even pointless eye-candy. The series could have successfully ended with CONQUEST.

As a white person, I was alive during this time, and I experienced this kind of "veiled racism" it was NOT melodramatic, many people felt this way! It was a different, terrible time!
