I would like some of these senators to be present in a hospital during one of these deliveries so they can look at the child and see the humanity of what they are talking about. It's very easy to push pens and papers around and keep things hypothetical, but they won't accept the testimony of a midwife who is at the coalface, faced with the reality of the issue! Protection for these poor midwives is needed as much as for the babies!

Yes, the poor midwives who begin down a career path to help birth live babies, faced with the reality of dealing with these procedures, and the soul destroying situation of not even being allowed to render comfort to one breathing infant, while heroic measures are taken in the next room to save another. Exceptionally well said. I am a doctor who swore the Hippocratic Oath at my graduation at Edinburgh University back in 1988. I abstain from all intentional wrong-doing and harm / primum non nocere. Any living foetus, birthed naturally or by abortion, becomes my patient. I am to help and do no harm to the child. This mean comfort at the very least (my human touch, warmth, oxygen, voiced blessing and other modes of pain relief). I suspect that this senator has little or no clinical experience in this area of care. If she does then she has no conscience. Certainly, no soul aligned to the ethical code of Hippocratic medicine and the J/Christian faith which values all life (imago dei). Indeed there is urgency in this debate and the vote is binary. Do you value all human life or not? What if this born baby was your child, your brother or sister, your niece or nephew, or your grandchild? This senator says that it is ok for your baby relative to be left to die slowly and alone on a cold metal dish in a sluice room. I have witnessed this horror. Stand up and be accountable.
