Good old Konrad von Hoetzendorf should have coached the Alleghenys. With Cadorna as pitching coach.

Yeah, but he seems happy though. The other day he said this was more of a fun project, but he also seems to enjoy the Great War show a load too. Nonetheless this is also really good content like his other channels.

It's a shame there is no known photo of the 1899 Spiders. The one shown is the 1892 squad, which won the 2nd half of the split season.
@peterbalholm21383 жыл бұрын
I notice on Wikipedia that one of the 1890 Alleghenys outfielders was Billy Sunday. Not a bad baseball player and later, probably the most famous evangelist in the world until Billy Graham came along.

One other reason for the shift of players from Cleveland to St. Louis, and it had to do with money. St. Louis, with its German breweries, allowed beer sales on Sundays. Cleveland did not. Ergo, the brothers figured they would draw more Sunday attendance and make more money with a good team.

The worst team was the 1962 METS for sure.Their story is well known.They used to drop fly balls.Most of the team players were at the end of their career.The 1969 MONTRÉAL EXPOS and SEATTLE PILOTS were also very bad.

There is one more, and supreme, reason to qualify the Spiders as the worst team in history. They were from CLEVELAND, OHIO! Although I love living here, can there be any question about this city's sports franchises being cursed? Addie Joss died of Cleveland baseball. Ray Chapman was killed with a pitched ball. Nobody is killed by baseball in other cities. Having a lousy record is one thing, but to wear the colors of Cleveland? Poor Bastards.
@RobCamp-rmc_08 жыл бұрын
Cavs notwithstanding, as someone from NEOhio, I fully agree. Cleveland is a cursed hellhole. Maybe if the Browns get sent off to the garbage leagues in, iunno, Montana or whatever, things will turn around. And I'm saying this even as the Tribe is in second place right now (go Cubs).
@Pulsatyr8 жыл бұрын
Heaven would be the Cubs vs. the Indians in the 2016 World Series. I'd be happy no matter what the outcome would be!
@RobCamp-rmc_08 жыл бұрын
From the looks of it, it'll probably happen. I'm not an Indians fan but I'd be okay with them winning it. Still rooting for the Cubs though, they really need it.

Just found you guys- this is the best thing I've ever seen on the you-tube! Terrific stuff. I already know almost all of what you're talking about ((ten-time finalist SABR team trivia contest , five time winning team member), but you guys are FUNNYand I just love your patter (including Sweedish knock-knock girl). ! I'll have to catch up on episodes I missed and I promise to never miss another one. P.S. I hope youse guys's don't mind a suggestion, but this popped into my head watching one of the outtakes where you show a little video clip. If it's a really BIG thing, how about, instead of a few random people standing up in a crowd to applaud, you show the generals listening to a Kim Jong-Un speech. P.P.S. I know you gotta show superstars in your card-filled intro, but I think the greatest baseball card ever made was the '57 Elmer Valors. If you don't have one, give it a look Also, the '61 Wes Covington, the only card in the whole set with an in-game, non posed photo and the '53 Bowman (great set, beautiful cards) Reese.

Connie Mack would build a championship team over 10-12 years and then financial difficulties would force him to sell his bast players just to keep the franchise solvent. Then the process would restart.
