Many other wrestling shows also blackout arenas with full or empty crowds. Even WWE has done it on some shows. The fact they didn't think to do this is embarrassing. Not that they have to hide the fact it's empty, because we all know it's empty, but visually it looks so weird to have this bright empty room. For Mania, I'd consider only lighting the ring and then maybe soft color lights/uplighting on the furthest walls, maybe on some banners. Will be interesting to see how AEW presents the show tonight.

The problem with pro wrestling is that it's dependent on audience interaction. When the heel shows up, the crowd boos and when the babyface shows up then cheer. Combat sports like MMA and boxing can dim the seats and focus solely on the action but rasslin' is a different industry. The product relies on the fans whereas fighting can exist solely with the action.

I say dim the lights and use recorded sounds of the public. They do it in comedy shows or series for many years. And just like the sitcoms everybody will know that it's recorded, but in some way it will be more fun to watch.

Chael is a huge pro wrestling fan. From the Stone Cold comment, to saying that he isn’t the Iron Sheik coming out to fight Sgt Slaughter when he was set to face Brian Stann. He even tried out for WCW in the late 1990’s, if I’m not mistaken. Plus, most of his bad guy persona was taken directly from pro-wrestling, he’d be the first to admit that the American Gangster stuff was basically just him playing as a heel. The thing is, even long term pro wrestling fans like Chael and myself can see that the product has become incredibly stale, formulaic and boring in recent years. The industry is essentially dead in my view, overtaken almost completely by mixed martial arts.
