Is MTB even worth it? From the danger, to the cost, to even the long, intense uphills, why even ride? In this video I reflect on some of the worst aspects of mountain biking for me and I'm curious what would be on your list?

I go out of my way for climbs. So there. The worst thing is the cost.

I definitely don't, but we are all different! And yes the cost is bad, but there are plenty of used mtbs and good deals, still need to usually spend over 1-2k though

The worst thing about mountain biking 1) I don't get to go enough, 2) I don't have enough money to buy more bikes.

I think almost everyone has those problems, if only we could all buy more bikes!

It’s objectively less dangerous than a lot of other popular hobbies. The fact is you might feel like you’re going fast but compared to say motorcycles or even road biking you’re actually going pretty slow. In fact road biking is boring asf, but it’s way more dangerous. I’ve never heard of a mountain biker being hit by a car. You’ll get a lot of minor injuries and a few broken bones but you will usually walk away from most crashes.

Worst: 1. Hikers that are in the way. 2. Dogs that are in the way. 3. Dog owners that don’t pick up after their animals or bag it but leave the bag and never return to pick it up. 3. Ruts. I absolutely hate ruts (biggest crash ever from unseen rut).

Poop bags might top the list haha, very irritating, along with ruts.

"hikers and dogs that are IN THE WAY " ? dude maybe they think YOU are in the way . Poor trail etiquette is one big reason why restriction are being placed on mountain biking . where i live hikers , horses , children have the right of way . we stop and let them go buy safely and then return to being insane . the only solution for going fast without interruption is to have dedicated MTB trails . no hikers allowed and vice versa . Your incredibly arrogant and childish attitude makes you complicit in these restrictions .
@FoxtonR
@FoxtonR 3 ай бұрын
@@siriosstar4789 No need to get worked up kiddo, I think they just mean that riding multi use trails (which most are where I live) is a bit of a pain because of lots of other traffic. Of course you stop for hikers and horses, they always have the right away, but it's just a fact of MTB that you can't always ride the trail to its potential because of stopping often for other travelers. This is why, instead of placing restrictions on bikes, they are adding bike only directional trails.

I think as a newbie, I prefer the climb because I'm going slow, crashes are not as bad. There's something super satisfying about getting over an obstacle. I am on an ebike but I don't actually engage the motor too much. Crash/Recovery sucks. Wind/Cold recently around here but I'll hate the heat soon enough. Other trail users (bikes.Peds.dogs) who are not polite. The drive does blow for sure.

Main reason I'm resisting getting an Ebike is because, frankly, I need the exercise of the climb haha. For me by far the worst part is the crashing, it always happens after I've gassed myself on a climb.
@FoxtonR
@FoxtonR 4 ай бұрын
It is true that you can get a good exercise on an e-bike and I definitely do, but there is no super strenuous constant pedaling really so makes sense to have a regular bike for the ultimate workout. Be safe out there! And remember "no crashing allowed"

For me the "thrill" of it isn't even really what I find compelling, and if you're confident on the bike and know your limits I'd say it can be a relatively low-risk activity. Like ya, there's an inherent risk there no matter what, but exercising a little caution goes a long way to preventing injury. If I'm not confident about hitting some new-to-me feature I will gladly walk that shit lol - way more worth it to me to continue riding consistently than potentially hurt myself for a brief moment of adrenaline. Not to mention most of the trails I ride regularly are ones I'm very familiar with, so for me it's definitely more about just being outside and having fun than it is getting thrills.

Very true! But when you start going fast and pushing the bike hard, you increase the risk and potential danger, plus needing a bike that won't fall apart when ridden that way.
