_"You had this totally flat ground and three foot high concrete barriers, so you had very little sense of reference points. It was probably the least appealing GP circuit I think I raced on."_ - John Watson And it signaled the beginning of the end of F1. It was ridiculous to have made acceptance of garbage circuits of Las Vegas, Detroit, Dallas and Phoenix. Long Beach was bad enough, then we got stuck with this mess. No wonder we didn't have a GP for years.
@drewsmith36732 жыл бұрын
John Watson is a very relevant reference. The man did most of his F1 racing through traffic. Could assume he is a good barometer for how much "competitive racing" a track does/doesn't supply.

Do you mean "the beginning of the end for F1 in the US"?
@maxmulsanne70542 жыл бұрын
@@EdyAlbertoMSGT3 My comment was initially about F1 in general, with the US composition being a good example of _"how to make a blueprint for absolute failure"_ (to make the sport even less popular), but yeah - I didn't really think of the US influence of F1 since it was (and still is an all gone conclusion of failure) of something that burned into the ground years ago. *The American Front:* Living in this godforsaken land of nitwits who are strung-out-on-stupid with ball & stick sports was one thing to accept; the fact that Nigel Mansell wasn't even known here until he signed on with Newman - Haas was even more evidence as to how deplorable the US is when it comes to international motorsports. Abandon the Glen for Vegas?... I'm not sure if that was more absurd than the 1989 demolition of RIR (Riverside International Raceway) for the sake of establishing a community called _"Moreno Valley"_ - which eventually turned into a ghetto/South Cal industrial center. Anyways without wasting more of your time, mine, or anyone else's, I'll come to the point that the US is totally incapable of recognizing F1 as an important sport - outside of FOM and the "nice" new COTA circuit. HAAS is a good factor to squeeze in too but it's all a little to late to get in this game (the prestige of F1) when F1 really mattered. Since 1981 or so, the US has done ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to promote F1 racing. Nothing. I know because I been stuck in this goddamn country to witness it. *The International F1 Front:* F1 itself is in trouble, and has been for some time. Technology has overwhelmed the capacity of driver input/talent so much that the sport's survival appears to meekly survive on controversy and vanity alone. In other words headliners these days are more about personal/abstract affairs than about advancements of teams or circuit capabilities to FIA regards. Viewership was down recently and for numerous good reasons; the sport was corrupt by greed, numerous scandals and inevitably the very thing that made it popular - technology. Not to mention the absurd configurations of what the sport recognizes as _"circuits"_ nowadays. Quiet frankly I will be surprised if F1 exists past 2030 or so, since new generations of people are arriving that will undoubtedly have new ideas to find other forms of entertainment outside of paying ridiculous amounts of money and attention to a series of motorsports with predictable results & personalities. Same goes for NASCAR, IRL whatever regulated sports car series that are in place. SIMS racing will become more popular. Modern motorsports entanglement of greed, warped personalities (be it drivers or FOM itself) and technological-advanced dominated teams will eventually kill the sport.

IndyCar tried to break into the New York market with a similar circuit in the Meadowlands Giants Stadium parking lot across the Hudson River in New Jersey. It didn't work. It lasted longer than the Las Vegas experiment, but suffered the same problems of racing in a parking lot. Most people thought it was boring. I knew someone who attended one race and he said, "You just sit there and see nothing, then every two minutes or so a car goes by."

This aged like fine wine... They made the event bigger this time around. Which unfortunately will probably mean an even bigger fiasco. Now they apparently don't even have enough safety marshals. 99% of the budget went for the *show* .

I remember someone told they wanted F1 to race again in las vegas. And the vegas was supposed to be held in 1997 and this time it was an actual street circuit and this time it was bigger and better than 1981 - 1984 race. And the race was held on the street on Fremont Street, Boulder highway to Hollywood and back again. So this 97 circuit was wider. Anyway this F1 race was called the Boulder Station 500. And it was supposed to be held on June 7, 1997. But all of the sudden this F1 race never happed at all. Today this remains an F1 mystery. Also sorry my comment was long.

Detroit and Dallas is a real track allongside Las Vegas. Las Vegas is the first delirious of Bernie. Reutemann said after this track "If God exist, he launch a atomic bomber on this track". Tours is a idea of tuning fan for attire NASCAR, and he serve for a young when he will be reduiced the risk of urban rodeo, but he is'nt Lurcy Levy Danielson track or Monthléry. Alboreto had win in Detroit 1983 the last Tyrrell victory and the last totally atmo podium before 1989.

While the Caesars Palace track wasn't all that great, Abu Dhabi is still worse. Possibly battling the Dallas street circuit for the title. I would even say that the more modern tracks in China, Korea, and Bahrain rank near the top for the worst F1 track.
