Dead wrong about the Knight Gallant; it's honestly one of the best units in the codex, and an outstanding ally unit. The cheapest knight, even with a carapace weapon, it's an unrivaled distraction carnifex that the opponent has one turn to deal with before it's inside their lines and crushing things. It's boosted WS means that even at bottom tier it's still putting out serious damage with it's happy feet. Apply the right traits and relics and it goes straight to 11; make it only woundable on 4+, give it 5++/4++ invulns in melee, 2+ armor, have it 8D at S16 and hit on 2+, etc. Favorite knight, and honestly the scariest.

Idk what the people at the GW rule department are smoking sometimes. Making everything viable makes it so that everything sells and everyone can play lists with a lot of variety. Win win?
@painterofpaint13 жыл бұрын
The variety is part of the issue though. Lets take a strange world in which the Eldar and their specialist units are actually viable. You might make a cool list of Swooping Hawks, Fire Dragons and Howling Banshees. Your list has two units of each and you have fun. Yet what if we enter a world where just Swooping Hawks are OP and viable? You'll need to buy multiple 10 man squads to fill out your awesome OP list. A number of swooping hawks you would've never bought, had you just been collecting everything. Then next codex or supplement release, Howling Banshees are turned into the super OP thing. Banshees were trash before, so you only maybe have one unit. Better buy your all banshees list. Next up are Fire Dragons, then Striking Scorpions. By the end of the run, you have a small army of every specialist unit; and then the cycle can begin once more again. Luckily you already have your units, but for the brand new player it's just starting. -------- Now this is a super extravagant example that does not properly relate to reality, yet I do believe there's some truth to it. GW has a strong habit of making poorly selling units OP; and once a unit has sold a good number of kits or sells well regardless; they don't mind overshadowing them.
@BlueZirnitra3 жыл бұрын
You don't have to be smoking something to fall short of flawless perfection in an incredibly complex gaming ruleset spanning volumes. @@BlueZirnitra When GW has a strong history of making units extremely OP to boost sales? I don't see why not. Just pay attention to the next codex release. Surprise surprise, units people previously didn't play/bought much are boosted into oblivion. The Riptide was another example of this too when it was first released. I buy plenty of GW products, and I often enjoy GW stuff. Yet there's no denying that they do base stats on sales.

@TheSeamonkeyBrigade3 жыл бұрын
@@painterofpaint1 I don’t really see how this relates to variety being an issue?? Maybe I’m just tired and am a dingus. But if all units were viable then variety would be an immense boon to GW. They don’t need to be OP, just playable and viable within a regular game. We don’t need an Obelisk OP meta for example, because we’d just fall into that cycle of constantly grabbing the next best thing as you described. We just need the Obelisk to be worth the points in any capacity to warrant its existence. It’s what happened with Tau drone spam and Triptides. The rest of the army was so poorly balanced that there were really only two possible routes to victory. Triptides were so overdone because they were one of the only consistent ways to win as Tau, because the rest of the army wasn’t really viable to use. Balancing the entire army instead of whatever units are or aren’t being used would be so much more beneficial for the game and GW’s wallet in the long term.

A lot of these units are from older armies that have a problem with model range bloat. Or older models that have not transitioned well into army redesigns or new editions. For example all the Necron Super Heavies except the Silent King. Do not fit well in the army redesign. Moving the Monolith from the Heavy slot almost feels spiteful. I'd contest the T'au pick, and I'm speaking as a Vior'la main. The only reason Tactical Drones were brought up to 20pts per model in the separate Fast Attack slot was to stop people spamming Tactical Drones outside of their Accompanying Drones role. Before the latest pts update, people were spamming drones to act as cheap ablative wounds for their Triptide. Chewing throw 3 units of 12 Shield Drones (for a total of 36 Shield Drones in 3 separate units) was a nightmare, and that's before you take into account the OTHER drones following other units around the table (lol). Then again, I only ever field about 20-30 drones in my entire 2000pts army list, because 1) I don't like playing drone spam, and 20 is already pushing it real close despite having no independent Tactical Drones team, and 2) I don't actually own that many drones... Wait. No. I do have that many drones... (But I swear, I only do it because I want to re-enact the Harbinger Devilfish from DoW and stuff a whole 12-drone unit into a Devilfish for shits 'n giggles.) I'd say the worst unit is the Tidewall Shield Line. Sure, they're basically a moving Light Cover that reflects shots back with good saves, but having only T6 and 4+ Saves on 10W isn't going to save it much. It doesn't even have an Invul save! Just point a single Devastator unit with Lascannons at it and it'll explode in the middle of the T'au gunline like a chunky salsa pinata!

Ok, last post (I used multiple posts to allow for separate lines of conversation), I'm going to disagree with you on Vigilators being the worst unit for Sisters of Silence, because while they're useless as a Custodes since you generally take Sisters of Silence as backline units for Custodes, they're not necessarily bad at what they do. It's just that their role isn't needed by _Custodes._ You know what army _could_ make use of a decent close-combat unit with big swords and good armor? Astra Militarum. And you can take them alongside Astra Militarum by using the Null Maidens rule, which lets you take a Vanguard Detachment of Sisters of Silence without needing to fill any HQ slots. Now, to note, I understand that Vigilators won't do that much damage, but here's the thing - in 9th edition, killing enemy units isn't the point, it's just a means to an end. And tying up an enemy unit in combat for a few turns can be just as useful. Now, the unit I'd say deserves the spot of "worst Sisters of Silence unit" is Witchseekers. Most expensive of the three different Sisters of Silence units, armed with regular flamers which are effectively a straight downgrade from the bolters used by Prosecutors (more shots and auto-hit doesn't justify the lack of range in this specific case), and they really don't cover any battlefield role. They're basically in the same boat as Burna Boyz, where you're paying more for a unit that does its role _worse_ than another unit. None of the factions that can take Sisters of Silence as allies in some way actually need the additional anti-horde firepower, and Sisters of Silence don't really benefit from auto-hit. There's some overwatch shenanigans you can pull with Witchseekers but that's about it, and no one's going to really want to charge a wall of flamers like that anyway so they're just going to shoot them instead.

I'm kinda shocked for knights it wasn't harpoon boi, I mean he is soo expensive and does nothing, That flamer is his big selling point and it really doesn't justify its existence, The Gallant can be a very good shock and awe piece, Capable of throwing itself across the board and cheap enough you don't really care if it gets focussed down, It definitely has its place it is just not the port of call if your looking to field soup knights, The Valient? I think its called I mean mono or ally there is no reason to bring it outside of rule of cool

Did you forget venerable land raiders exist for custodes...because their just hot garbarge
@VestedUTuber3 жыл бұрын
You know what's really weird about that? Astartes and Chaos would BOTH kill for a Land Raider that good. But it sucks as a Custodes unit because it's literally the only non-SoS Custodes unit that doesn't get the otherwise universal 5++ invul. Not to mention it's rendered completely obsolete by the much cheaper Caladius Grav Tank and much tougher Telemon Dreadnought, which both also outgun the Land Raider.
@WaystedMined3 жыл бұрын
So hear me out. Iron hands servo-turrets. You can Iron Stone the unit for -1 damage across all three, because it applies to an Iron Hands unit. Gives re-rolls to hit though super doctrine doctrine/stratagem. You can also psy-steel armor them for a 1+ save. Plus they have a 6+++. Are they amazing no, but worst unit? I don't think so. They probably need a points drop, because 270 for 3 AC ones still feels too high, but I don't think they are the worst unit.
@Siathuan3 жыл бұрын
The thing about Tyranid Flyers, the Hive Crone and the Harpy, is that they're not aircraft-style flyers, zooming and booming across the battlefield dropping death and destruction; no, they're monsters with 30" move. Sure, their damage output is crap and their durability is nonexistent, but for the price of a barebone Walk-Tyrant you get a creature guaranteed to get a T1 charge and lock down an entire section of the enemy front line with its massive footprint. Throwing it at something hard and killy is stupid; use it to snare screening units in a battle they won't win. It will take an entire turn of falling back and either shooting or charging before the enemy can even begin to contest the midfield! And if the enemy puts their good stuff up front, well, that's why you have Swarmlords and Genestealers.
@flashlightantics76183 жыл бұрын
I agree with the Obelisk choice for Necrons...I do not, however, agree with the statement that Praetorians are a "weirdly inefficient" unit. No, they don't benefit from army wide options, but they're a mobile unit that does well in both the shooting phase and the close combat phase. They can be downright monstrous when paired with The Silent King, as well. Are they a better option over Litchguard? No. But I still wouldn't call them "weirdly inefficient". The Flayed Ones on the other hand...

So many of the HQ slots got buffs in other codices, I'm predicting the GSC Biophagus gets buffed as well in there codex. It's a pretty new model that no bought, cause it's never been that great. Cool model though. Also, I like that in Eisenhorn Book, a Demonhost one shots a Battle Titan. On the tabletop however, they do 1 damage on their best day.
@MyAlessandro19953 жыл бұрын
Seeing that the orks get buffed with the new codex maybe the servo turrets are not that bad, with 3 of them they are 18 shots and you need only a 3 to wound ork boyz, if you play Iron hands with them you spend 2 cp and can re-roll the hit roll
@Howardax3 жыл бұрын
No need. Ork boyz are now terrible and almost never used. It pains me, but right now if you wanna play an army that functions objectively better as a pseudo-green tide horde (better WS, BS, damage, survivability, flexibility/access to more and better stratagems, AND are cheaper by 1ppm)... I'm not joking here, play Admech Skiitari max squads. God I just want my Green Tide to be playable again :(

As a Tau player I 1000% agree that Tactical Drones are the worst lol I would be happy if they nerfed Savior Protocols (maybe by making them only intercept successful hits instead of wounds?) to remove the absurd 20pt/model cost. They seem like the perfect unit to score engage on all fronts, or maybe even linebreaker, with.
@0MaxK03 жыл бұрын
Easy fix: get rid of Savior Protocols entirely but give shield drones the ability to give all units within 3" a 4+ invul. In addition drop the points cost of most of your suits to accommodate the fact you'll be taking more losses (also buff the BS of all units to 3+ while you're at it). I'd also give all drones the ability to allow units to fallout of combat with no penalty as they provide a distraction for the more fleshy units to escape. I'd also consider giving all suits (minus Broadsides) the ability to move after shooting... and look at that, I'm having a Tau rant already! Sorry for the tangent!
@davidc89033 жыл бұрын
@@0MaxK0 fire and fade for jetpack units plus 3+ BS would be a welcome change haha Another idea could be that they change Master of War a bit: perhaps at the beginning of your command phase you could pick from a list of buffs (Montka, Kauyon, maybe one to fall back and shoot?, etc.) and every unit within 6” of a commander gets the buff. They might need to be a bit weaker to compensate for repeat use, though.

as sisters of battle player. i would agree mostly with that the dialogus is pretty much the weakest unit...but looking at this, the dataslate your showing is missing some to which i would say she has two saving graces outside of the standard "does not take up a detachment slot if a canoness in it" that most characters have. the first is the ability to increase/decrase miracle dice values by one if your not taking the triumph of saint katheryn. the second is that she is the cheapest (adeptus sororitas) preist, meaning that this choir girl has the ability to sing one of 6 chosen Hymns of battle (which are quite powerful units sleected within range and affected depending on which hymn is chosen and inspires (2+ check). while there are cheaper preist units like the preacher and Missionary....they only get to use war hymn which all priests know (which simply increases a units attack by 1 until the next com phase.) which is okay...if close to penitent engines or other melee ministorum models as well as one of the first 3 battle hyms. saying this....the dialogus i would agree is the weakes "adeptus sororitas" specific unit...but codex wise...i think the Missionary is worse. a HQ model with terrible stats, terrible weapons and only nothing going for it outside it's 4+ invulnerable save and being the cheapest HQ choice and second cheapest Preist....even if your using alot of ministorum/cult imperialis. which would be strange as your either playing an astra millitarum army or sisters of battle army. but that's my opinion anyway.

Throwing out the special named characters I would say the worst unit in the Craftworlds army is actually Guardians, Storm or Defender doesnt matter which. Defender are super costly, extremely short ranged and basically just outright outclassed by Dire Avengers who are literally them but better, abet slightly smaller groups and unable to take a heavy weapons, which would be a downside but you've got to pay the cost of 2-3 guardians just to get 1 big gun. Storm on the other hand.... even guardsmen only charge when they have to.

flayed ones DO have a place. They are the easiest way you can score a lot of the secondaries. Retrieve Nachmund data for instance in your opponent's table quarters is perfect for them, not to mention pretty cheap. The REAL deepstrike cc unit that doesn't really have a purpose is the ophydian destroyers. They are more expensive than flayed ones and come in smaller squad sizes so they are worse at getting a lot of the secondaries, they don't have a -1 to hit stratagem and they are the same toughness and save as flayed ones, so they are actually squishier than flayed ones (also RP is worse on them), they are slower than wraiths, weaker than both wraiths and skorpeks in both resiliency, and even potentially how much damage they do, etc. They really don't have a purpose. ANytime I think of taking them I realize that Skorpeks, Wraiths, and Flayed Ones all do any job they could have, better. That being said there are still worse necron units though lol.
@VestedUTuber3 жыл бұрын
Ooh, mentioning the Trojan... you can reload _Deathstrikes_ with them. It's not necessarily the most effective strategy, but if you take three Deathstrikes and three Trojans together, you can basically barrage the opposing army with unit-deleting missiles. Again, not exactly effective, but holy shit is it hilarious.

These new editions are turning some of my favorite units to trash. Burnas used to be some of the best basic stat infantry orks could get. A normal flamer in the shooting phase or a power weapon in the assault phase and the ability to just end an enemy assault with their over watch. They were really effective for their points and their numbers. Now, they made them so weak. They gave them all hand flamers pretty much, because far be it for gw to give anything good to anyone but SM players.

I haven't played Inquisition, but what about Inquisitor Eisenhorn? Without a Daemonhost he doesn't really seem to be worth taking. If you take both, the daemonhost becomes 6S 6T 6W 5A. if the host is within 6" of Eisenhorn it gets +1 hit/wound/invul (which makes his ranged D3 on a 5+). Not saying either are good, But Eisenhorn really gets value from adding 1 Daemonhost.

I thought the Death Strike is pretty god awful in the Astra Militarium range. It's a glorified heavy bolter until you get to maybe shoot that death strike missile once per game. IF you're lucky, you get 3D6 shots averaging about 11-13 shots. This still requires to hit on a BS 4 assuming you didn't take any damage. So you're looking on average about 5-6 mortal wounds and maybe a D3 mortal sounds assuming that unit was 6" to another unit on a 4+. Not to mention it still requires permission to shoot. 6up on round2, 5up on round 3, 4up on round 4, and 3up on round 5... No doubt the Trojan isn't great. But it at least got it's moment of glory in 8th ed and it's a FW model. So judging as most models in this list aren't from the FW range, I didn't feel like we had to go dig for our worst model in the FW range. There's just one in the Codex ripe for the picking. If anyone played a Death Strike against me, I would probably be asking if I'm such a bad player that he/she needed to take it THAT easy on me... But that's probably what will trigger the 6 on turn 2 to wipe half of a critical unit, so who knows.

I agree with you on the Aberrants. With the right set up support (no, not you Biophagus) a unit or two of Aberrants bearing down on the enemy rear is going to throw the enemy's entire battleline into chaos. They're meant to play the surprise Hammer to the Acolyte and Neophyte Hybrid's Anvil. With the Abominant thrown into the mix to buff those Aberrants, they're going to tear a big hole in the enemy's back end while their main fighting force are bogged down by our squishier brothers holding them down in the midfield.
