The popular rumor I head was Sandow was never really considered for the World Title. The plan, I heard, was for the Rhodes/Sandow feud to end with the briefcase being won by Rhodes, and HE was going to become World Champion. However, before they went through with it, the WWE changed their minds and Sandow ended up doing a failed cash-in. Anyway, Sandow was a very good worker and was truly underused and underappreciated. I don't know if I'd call him major title material, but I'd at least have given him a good run with the IC or US title.

I kind of think it was an ego thing with Vince. If you got over, it needs to be because Vince wanted you to and was actively pushing you to get over. I’m assuming but I think, if you naturally get over with the fans, he does not see you as a product of WWE and you’re trying to go into business for yourself even though you’re just doing your best with the cards you’ve been dealt.

I saw Sandow in Milwaukee in year 2. Biggest pop of the night. Fans were talking about him. He was wildly over. Saw him in Omaha NE less than a year later. INSANE POP! Easily the loudest pop of the night. There is a reason he won that ladder match. In BOTH cases he was REASON #1 i finally broke down and went to the matches. The man was/IS hilarious. The man can WRESTLE. The man knows WHAT to say and WHEN to say it which is saying ALOT in McMahons wwe

Damien Sandow doesn't have the worst cash in of all time. Hell I'd argue that 11 years ago it wasn't the worst because John Cena failed his MITB cash in. Damien Sandow might have the third worst cash in of all time behind Baron Corbin at number two and Austin Theory at number one. Also as a reminder, Triple H is responsible for Austin Theory cashing in on Seth Rollins for the United States Championship during an open challenge.
