30 WWE Royal Rumbles later, its fair to say that there have been some wack winners. Surprisingly a lot of them have been pretty recent. 2011-2017 as a matter of fact have been really really weird. Sure there has been some bad winners before 2011. However. The run of bad winners that started in 2011 was just crazy. Something has always happened. Wrong person winning, poor booking etc. So lets go back and take a look at the Rumbles from 2011-2017 and see what the hell happened. Who won and who should have won.

I don’t have the source for that but I remember it trending because of the bad buzz that was around that match because everyone was disapointed but then a source leaked that info on Twitter saying they actually had the control over the match, and they did not deliver. Not blaming it on them tho, you can’t always have a perfect match and it was decent, but yeah you can’t really blame wwe. As I said , I don’t remember the official source but I’m pretty sure of what I said, this was trending.

Here’s my picks for the rumble win. 2011-2018 2011 - CM Punk. Have Cena win the title at Elimination Chamber and Punk challenges Cena. We have the pipe bomb before and they set up the angle they had at Money in the Bank but in the main event of Mania. 2012 - Chris Jericho. No shit. 2013 - John Cena. I know, I know Cena’s win was ass but here’s this. Have Cena lose his title shot to The Rock at Elimination Chamber but then The Rock cheats so he is inserted into the match, triple threat. Cena vs Punk vs Rock. 2014 - Daniel Bryan. How could you not? Batista winning was so unnecessary but there is an alternate winner to this story. 2014 - CM Punk. If Punk won and got his moment at Mania, he wouldn’t have left and then we can have a Punk vs Bryan feud. Also Bryan doesn’t get injured because of this. 2015 - Roman Reigns. Yeah, it was good. Just the booking. 2016 - Dean Ambrose. This was such bullshit. Ambrose was so over and then he just.. lost? REIGNS VS AMBROSE WOULD HAVE BEEN SO GOOD! 2017 - Bray Wyatt. This would be good if Orton and Wyatt swapped places and boom, you got a killer feud. 2018 - Shinsuke Nakamura. Hold on, this is an unpopular opinion but what if Nakamura challenged Lesnar? I’d prefer a Lesnar vs Nakamura match over a Styles vs Nakamura match any day. Yeah, that’s about it.

2011 - Not that bad a winner, Alberto was in the world title picture at the end of the year and winning the largest RR elevated him. Alberto was a good character and wrestler and while he wasn't wrestlemania main even calibre he wasn't that low on the card that it made no sense. 2012 - I don't think Jericho needed the RR win, it would've been nice to see him win but it wasn't essential for him to win it. Sheamus wasn't a bad choice just a meh choice. 2013 - This is bad, if they were so dead set on having the rock face john cena at wrestlemania then they should've had Rock win the rumble as a surprise entrant and had a great John Cena vs CM Punk match for him to drop the title to Cena 2014 - I think this was the worst. No one wanted Batista in the main event of WM, no one wanted to see him vs Randy Orton. The win is pretty forgettable due to Batista leaving so soon after returning as well. I've seen people saying that Roman should've won but thats some 20/20 hindsight right there, people seem to forget that his performance in the RR match itself was what got him so over at that time, no way to predict how loved he would be for the months after the rumble before his injury. 2015 - Its not who I would've wanted to win but DB vs Brock so soon after him coming back shouldn't have happened. Why risk injuring your most over superstar with suplex city. Having Roman vs Brock wasn't that bad a choice, I just wish they didn't make it so damn obvious that Roman was winning the rumble 2016 - Just a meh winner for me, it made sense storyline wise for him to win so I'm not too mad at it and he had a decent match with Ambrose as champion. 2017 - This is the first actual good choice in years imo. Randy/Brays angle was the hottest storyline at the time and I think having Bray win at the EC (pinning both AJ and John in the process) was the right choice. Randy wasn't a forced winner like some of the others and I was happy to see a win that made storyline sense and felt natural. 2018 - Nakamuras Win itself is fine. What came after with the low blows and stuff wasn't. Its a pretty forgettable win now. Asuka was the right choice and was a pretty decent winner.

2022 was bad but there wasn’t any expectation and we all knew Brock was gonna win 2015 actually had hype around it and the Daniel Bryan was so over the crowd was waiting for him to win then they eliminated him immediately and it killed the whole match

Definitely 2018. No offense to Shinsuke, but he’s honestly a very forgettable Rumble Winner. I REALLY was rooting for Finn Balor and i’m still upset to this day he didn’t win.
