I had a CRKT M-16 that I liked. Because I could I polished the blade and liked it even more. I found it easy to sharpen and it held its edge. The blade started sicking on opening to the point I often had to used two hands to engage the blade. After cleaning and lubing, etc. it still stuck. I called the company and they told me to mail it to the them for repair. I thanked them with a note included in the package with the knife and asked that they use my blade on the repaired knife as my polishing didn't impact the the hinge pin nor the opening and closing of the blade. They sent me a new knife! Without my blade. The knife won't hold an edge. Actually it doesn't take a good edge. I put a finer bevel on it and it rolled the edge. I had a very experienced blade sharpener try his hand. Nope. I like the looks of the Crossbones but the fact they refused to honor my request leaves a bad taste in my mouth. If they had called me before hand I would have told them to send my knife back to me in the condition I sent it to them.

I like AUS-8, It can take a great edge, is not a chore to sharpen and is quite stain resistant. I like sharpening my knives and with AUS-8 It's not hard to get a mirror polish on my Japanese water stones. Tried doing it with S30V and it took hours just to get it to a high polish. Had to actually flatten some of my stones midway through sharpening because the knife was hollowing them out!

I like the different steel option but I think the handle is what makes the knife. Maybe a Titanium handle version with zdp189 would be a good high end option. But I think g10 or frn would ruin the look of the knife.

I love the crossbones. I carry mine 5 or more days a week. I move arround alot at work delivering packages and the wife is never in the way in my pants or shorts. I am lost if I don't have my knife in my pocket. I mostly cut packing tape or boxes. I love this knife cutting fish it has a great shape and fits the hand perfect for fish. It is like butter through fish straight from the box. I have sharpened mine once and it could use a nice touch up now. Its my favorite knife I own due to the fact it's an EDC and in my pocket at all times. I can tell the blade material and sharpness is not as good as my hunting style fixed blade Benchmade but I don't get the joy out of my Benchmade because I can not EDC that knife.

CRKT probably has more well known designers than any other manufacturer out there. Some of my favorites are the Heiho, the Hunt N' Fisch (best bird knife I've owned), and the Tighe Tac, which has a very similar pocket clip to the Crossbones.

I'm primarily right handed but do most every thing with both hands, so a left hand clip would've been great because I always EDC both front pockets and practice deployment of all my folders with both hands. I may have to get one of these because I like the look of this blade as well as the CRKT Obake (which I own) and the Japanese look is awesome.

Yeah. Just got one of these. Seems the design has been changed over the years. Mine looks very different and I feel the action is not nearly what yours shows. My flipper is different and my lock bar is totally different. M390 steel but looks quite different. Direct from crkt wonder why they made the changes.

Great review. I, too, have not been a big fan of CRKT knives in the past. But this looks different and appears light and slim for every day carry. I like the overall design on this one. I'll definitely be looking to play with one in person to see if it feels as good as it looks. Wish the locking mechanism would allow a 1 hand flip close though. Cheers!

I know this is a way old comment, but, I prefer to carry it on the left side because it does easily allow one hand-open and fold, whereas the right hand doesn't really allow it.

Well glad you finally came around to CRKT. Now you have a lot of catching up to do on their long line of fine cutlery. Get your wallet out though because they are getting kind of pricey for the materials offered unless you get some of their older stuff. Good luck with your new knife Aaron.

I carry mine everyday. At work and it is supprised me I carried it at church in my nice slacks. I bought the knife due to the fact it was a folder and that I would carry it every day. I wanted the ka-bar little fin but hated the small handle size. I use mine for all kinds of stuff. It cuts fish nicely and just the right size too. I have 2 other folders and 2 fixed blades and I only want to use the crkt park knife. My fixed blade is a sog seal pup and a buck bait knife very nice but I feel no where near what this crkt is.

I agree with your assessment of crkt, the only product of theirs I own is the kangee tactical tomahawk. A couple of crkt blades this year look good, though I'm unsure about the asking prices, the rakassan is one, but $95 for a 5 inch sk5 blade? Hmmm...

It's a good looking knife, but there's no way I'm paying that much for AUS-8 unless Cold Steel brings back an AUS-8 SRK. Likewise, I'm not paying $80 for AUS-8 in the Homefront. I might have done that deal in 2012, but it's 2017 and I can get a Spyderco Byrd or a Cold Steel in BD-1 for $45. I can get a Cold Steel in XHP for $70. There is no way I am settling for AUS-8 and paying $60 for it. For that price I can get comparable steel quality (or better) with beautiful, functional designs by getting three Ganzos.
@codyholland8011
@codyholland8011 7 жыл бұрын
Charles Collier I'm with you on that, that seems like too much. I have a Large Cold Steel Voyager in Cts-BD1, and I'm not impressed at all. In my opinion it loses it's shaving edge just as fast as the Voyager I have in AUS-8. It sees the Edge Pro or a ceramic rod quite often.
@charlescollier7217
@charlescollier7217 7 жыл бұрын
Cody Holland That's interesting. Not my personal experience with the Voyager in BD-1, but I don't doubt it happened. Nevertheless, even if I got the same edge retention as I did with AUS-8, it would still be $15 cheaper than this CRKT. I like someof CRKT's designs, but they are gouging.

Of course a better steel would be better but it wouldn't be $60 then. With this knife, you're paying for the design (licensed from Jeff Park) and all the work that goes into making it (especially machining the handle). He explains this in the video. $60 for this knife isn't bad (even if it's just in AUS-8). If you want a better steel and a similar design, buy a Jeff Park Bones Midtech which has CPM154. They're only $450 (if you can find one in stock).

They must be getting a low price on the AUS8. It worked well when Cold Steel used AUS8A, but I have moved on since them, as has Cold Steel. After seeing how Ganzo 440C outperforms the Ontario RAT 1 AUS8 version, the writing is largely on the wall for AUS8 among informed buyers.

I think this is a pretty folding knife. And I like 8cr13/14mov, AUS8 steel for the EDC folding knife because it can sharpen the knife with anything like ceramic glass, ashtray or pebble stone. And every time I buy a folding knife. I will buy it from ebay because other sites shipping price (to thailand) is very expensive. But you know the price of this model in ebay that price 95-100$ excluding shipping price. (Same price as the official site 18/7/2017) If it costs 60-70$ included shipping price. I will buy it without thinking at all. But if the price is 90-100$ I think Spyderco delica4 vg10/s35vn is probably the better option in this price range. If CRKT produces the JEFFBONES vg10 blade, I'll buy it for 100$ ~ Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of CRKT. But this time AUS8 JEFF PARK LICENSE is too expensive for me.🤑 Maybe I will buy it in 2020, which I hope at that time. The price is only 40-50$.

I LOVE CRKT knives, but the quality control, is abysmal. So far I’ve gotten the Hisshou, Ignitor, Hissatsu, and T-Hawk. The knives, and hatchet, themselves, are phenomenal. But, the hisshou was basically a safe queen, until I shelled out another $89 for a custom fit kydex sheath. Hard to try lashing a heavy, SHARP, $200+ knife onto your equipment when the possibility of having to rapidly find cover without worry of losing a tool, or body part, is an intricate part of the mission. Zero retention, means zero chance of using the tool purchased. The ignitor was fantastic, for the first month or so. After that, planning to carry it as an edc, was washed away. Assisted opening was pretty nonexistent. Hissatsu, was pretty much a carbon copy of problems as the hisshou. If CRKT could ever be able to get their items squared away, they’d be a force to reckon with in the knife world.

I just wish they would take their popular models and use some upgraded steel. I don't need anything crazy. Just like D2. But once you have a knife that is D2 or higher, I just don't see how you can go back to AUS 8.

Gillan Laureth of Seles I love mine. I carry it some times 7 days a week. I deliver packages for one of the big delivery companies and the knife is never in the way in my pocket all day long. I bought it for the blade design and for fish. It is nice and sharp handles fish pretty nicely. I wanted the ka-bar little fin for fishing but hated the small handle and fixed blade. This knife felt nice in my hand better than higher priced knifes. I own a 5.11 tactical knife a small crkt and 2 fixed blades a sog seal pup and a buck bait knife. I now neglect every knife I own because of this knife. I do bring my fixed blade knifes out on trips but have not used them since getting the Park knife.

No EDC for me. No guard = hand slides onto blade if tactical use. Liner locks are often not reliable in tactical situations either. Granted, one may never encounter this in EDC, but if you do this is not the knife you want to have with which to defend yourself.

I don't think the price point is off (meaning too high) if you're considering the design overall, but I think CRKT sort of shot themselves in the foot by using AUS-8 for the blade. I might be wrong here, but someone in the market for a "gentleman's folder" is likely more concerned with material "snobbery" than the average knife owner. Price point becomes less of a hindrance than getting a product that checks all of their aesthetic boxes, regardless if it's logical or not.

@wpieter2459
@wpieter2459 6 жыл бұрын
David Mayle personally I think the VG-10 of the Boker is a superior steek to the Aus-8. Vg-10 has around the same edge retention as aus-8 but gets far sharper. They are both on bearings and are around the same weight. The urban trapper is known for a blade that is on the flimsy side, though I am not sure how strong the crossbones blade is. The urban trapper does have titanium liners and many more options for handle scale marterials. The trapper can get much more expensive than the crossbones based on what version you pick. Honestly, it really depends on your use case and preferences on the looks.

Another good option for folders of this style is the kizer begleiter. Also vg-10, fantastic quality, and cheaper than the urban trapper.
