Apparently DAS falls within common elements which may be purchased wholesale like a rear suspension for instance. So RP have a chance on the DAS side, albeit a tiny one

I really like this matt. Witty and informative. Dead horse?!? South park reference?!? I'm dead! Good going. Regarding the pink w10, it's a solid idea when you consider the 2021 reg changes, budget cap, brackley wind tunnel use, and bang for buck. Racing point can now fully focus on 2021. Not sure what all the hoopla is all about, HAAS and STR has been doing this for years now. The 08 STR, which vettel won in monca - was in fact a ferrari power redbull. Ironically it was faster than the sister car.
@SomersF14 жыл бұрын
The hoopla is all just narrative fluff (pink maybe) and will die down as soon as there’s something else to discus. Oh, look, that already happened - DAS...

Thanks for the video. Thought I saw somewhere that in 2019, Racing Point had lowered their upper side-impact beam, like Ferrari, to accommodate a new sidepod design. Meanwhile, in 2019 Mercedes was still using the higher mounted beam. Under the skin, do you think that for Racing Point's 2020 car, that beam mount has migrated back upwards?
@SomersF14 жыл бұрын
Yes, they have switched to the high mounted point for the spar again having run the lower one last year... www.motorsport-magazine/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/21075921/Racing-Point-RP20-in-pits-768x512.jpg

Surely Tracing Point have no real idea how to improve upon their car (similar to the Haas in previous years) where they start the season strong, but overtime they drop off compared to their competitors. Surely they will be in the same situation this year?
@SomersF14 жыл бұрын
RP do have a larger group of personnel than Haas at their disposal but, they've been working on a Red Bull style concept for 3 to 4 years now and in the last year of a ruleset they've switched that entirely for a Merc one. The mind boggles. I look forward to seeing their development and how fast the two curves between that and the others out-developing them occurs

@@SomersF1 do you think it could be pressure from the Stroll consortium to change concept?
@humanbeing90794 жыл бұрын
Not gonna be much in-season this year anyways when the likes of Mclaren already have the 2021 car in the wind tunnel; Probably it's this unique situation that made Racing Point think this is an appropriate stopgap solution. Also, I am going to be one of those people who point out the DAS system(part of the front suspension) is on the list of parts that can be shared, so Racing Point can just buy the DAS, WOAH end of the world scenario this. BTW, obligatory "But the lap times!" exclamation as an F1 fan; Seeing as the official "daily testing highlights" videos are already ranking/rating teams based on lap times, I almost thought those are "qualifying highlights" videos. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5LQaXRrfbKjlZo
@SomersF14 жыл бұрын
Possibly, although I do still see teams throwing some of their weight behind development due to the prize-money correlation. You're right DAS could be shared but is everything about their chassis, steering and suspension able to handle it?
@humanbeing90794 жыл бұрын
@@SomersF1 the DAS is integrated into the design of the steering/suspension, so what they will be getting is the whole package. Then the question is how they will package the nose and pass the FIA crash tests. Obviously, I meant it more as a joke than anything since people are losing their minds over RP copying the Merc. Teams will definitely evaluate their plans based on testing, but the earliest they can "react" is bringing some small bits at the Chinese GP, then a small upgrade package at the Spanish GP. If the RP car indeed is fast out of the box, then they have a good chance of a really solid 1st half.
