I spent the afternoon reading Mr. Rothman's A Clockwork Blue article. I recall the BLM riots from a single photo in the WSJ; a tall black woman standing in the ruins and rubble of her small business. "Rioting is not free speech," I thought; a provocative when spoken as I have learned over the years and not solely from young activists. As a high school student I watched flatbed trucks haul armored vehicles into Detroit. Given the Vietnam era it was particularly disturbing when a group of Hueys flew over our house. There may be a "Commentary Jr". version of this piece. These toxins are now in the elementary schools, libraries, and children's sections of bookstores. During the Obama/McCain campaign there was a phone-recorded exchange between a boy and his teacher. He voted for McCain as of course had his parents in the election. It was a shocking moment of verbal and emotional abuse of a child. A fair and brilliant piece and something far more than a magazine article. Perhaps Criterion Books or Encounter Books?
