This is pure gold! Thank you for sharing this David Dortort interview. A man with a vast amount of knowledge. Bonanza is one of my all time favorite westerns :)

I'd love to see the whole unedited interview of Mr. Dortort, because everything this mans says gives one insight to his creative genus.

If I had a fraction of this man's insight, intuition, and creativity, I would be quite happy. What a genius.

He’s one of the reasons Bonanza lasted so long. The audience only sees the actors, but without a good staff the series will not be successful.

but of course there is a dang of a lot of things that the viewers dont see in a film or serie , but happens behind the curtain , back stage , its hours of hours of work being done in order to make it work , and bonanza lasted for 14 years , thats for me is a heck of a long time for a serie to run , shamefully pernell roberts left in 1965 , the show lasted until 1973 , and pernell sure filled his boots on the show no doubt , so the show lost something huge when he decided to leave , but ive seen in an interview done with pernell roberts his reasons why he left bonanza , and his remarks on the serie was quite good , and i understand why he left when i listen to what he had to say .

I would have liked to have heard, from Mr. Roberts, his version for his reasons for leaving. It’s only fair in my opinion. Are there any interviews addressing this issue by Mr. Roberts that anyone knows of? I cannot find anything on KZbin.
