As for the first post: I'm working on a pretty shot story, just for fun. It starts off as a wish-fulfilment story with a Mary Sue as a protagonist, the whole twist is that it's actually a horror story (you can tell why I'm only working on this for fun). Anyway, the hardest part of writing this is the part where it's actually a wish fulfilment story. Every time I mention how the protag has "ethereal beauty" and it's so gosh darn pure and incorruptible, it pains me. So yeah. I actually might need to become a worse writer, at least temporarily.
@ihopeicanchangethisnamelat71082 жыл бұрын
If you Google a Mary Sue test it talks about habits people have when they write they without realising. Like making them speak multiple languages fluently without needing to learn, or other characters questioning them and being proven wrong. This could add… depth? I guess? aside from ‘they’re perfect everyone loves them’. Also I really want to read your story.
@SupernaturalScream4562 жыл бұрын
They’re great at everything and everyone loves them. The horror, everyone loves them so much it’s an infatuating cannibalistic love. The more time they spend with someone the more that person wants to be around them and part of them. When I was 10, I tried to write a slow burn because I HATED love at first sight. (And still do. Just... No.) However I was impatient as hell. I looked back on the story and damn I was genuis with slowly hinting the lord gradually and actually wrote trauma pretty well but the love story and character development was a mess. The IDEA of what the character development was ment to be was a good idea but I messed it up. At least I can learn from my past messes. I also wrote a different story when I was 10 and I'm not gonna tell you the plot but the first 3 or 5 chapters were actually really good and I enjoyed reading them again. But after chapter 5 you could tell I had ran the story into a brick wall. The protagonist kinda lost a lot of her personality, like being adopted had stripped her of everything that once made her herself. At least the humor was actually pretty funny. So I was like "I should've stopped writing at chapter 8" after re-reading that dumpsterfire of a novel. God should've stopped me from writing when I was 10.

I feel this. I wrote a One Direction fanfiction when I was like 12. Was a solid, stereotypical, teen drama. Had a great build up of some past drama slowly making its way into the plot. But I guess I got bored because then I decided to cause a literal car crash and catapult the characters to the end by comatose-ing all the conflict, again literally. One chapter after was the end. And then I wrote a one chapter follow up breaking up the leads that just got together because apparently I wanted to do that. Now I’m having much more fun writing a slow burn regency era romance. Two chapters in, still haven’t even mentioned the love interest and I love that I’ve done that to myself. Also there won’t be any car crashes. Or I guess horse and cart crashes? Actually I lie, there is but it’s a thing that happened before the time line that’s to do with a whole side character thing. Maybe I should stop with the crashes.

These are so very relatable but the one thing I haven't seen thus far is the: Procrastinate writing story for days/weeks/months, open doc, write non-stop for hours straight, go to bed, repeat.

These videos always make me want to write a few hundred novels in the span of an hour, but when I actually start writing all that motivation shrivels up and dies in front of me ;-;

The one about wanting to share references, except no on but you understands is so real. I'm writing a fic with a friend currently, and we essentially spent an hour throwing... dumpling lore into this thing. Like, dumplings were everything. They were references, and injokes and fhjwekfbwejlfk. And then I'm writing the next chapter of another WIP that's currently being uploaded, and I referenced a ton of dumplings lore. and.... i don't know where I was going with this.

I’ve had a WIP since 2019 (slow progress due to mental illness) and I used Fantasy Name Generators to help come up with the protagonist’s name. However, I later gave her name a deeper meaning while world-building.

Hey, all of you with a bad case of Worldbuilders' disease, come on down and shout the names of your fictional worlds into this blank white void. I'll start! Mine are currently called Avianon and Mystinon, literally "bird land" and "magic land" in my fictional language. I'd love to hear yours! 🌎😁

I think the mostly frustrating part of writing characters is when you come up with their personality, backstory, and character arch, but just forgot to give them a name. So now you have a whole fleshed out character that you try to find a name for but nothing fits right.

My favourite thing about having OCs is when you know exactly what they're like.....but you have no clue what they look like or even their name- Another is when you have this cool OC idea but you have no idea what their backstory is or when asked can't put it into words- Also having this cool story or picture in your head but it just.....doesn't come out right and at the end you wanna cry cuz you know how you want it to go but everytime you draw or write it just....ends up not quite night.

Actually, the first "anti-advise" it's a pretty damn good advice when you're dealing with writer's block. Dedicate yourself to be a worse, but more prolific writer. Remember, while you're hiding behind "writer's block" and telling yourself you're not good enough, there's a worse writer somewhere who's having the results you want.

I was dying for more writing time all semester and now that I'm on break I can't stop writing and it's killing me. I'm doing the "waking up in the night just to write furiously in my notes app and then having to decipher it the next morning" thing, I have a new idea (which wasn't supposed to happen, I have a first section of a wip that's supposed to be fully scripted by the summer) and it's utter chaos trying to make a coherent plot from the random brain blasts, I'm writing my gf an essay on the first section of her book which is only making me think about writing more, and I just plotted out the entire ending of my main wip plus an idea for the sequel in one day. I'm getting way more done than I thought I would, but I have a creative writing class next semester and I just made the mistake of burning myself out on writing.

I hate it when I write a whole scene and finish my book afterward then when I go back to that scene I discover an obvious plot hole Like one time my characters were prisoners in cages for a month and for that whole month never left the cage. I now realized the plot hole. How the heck did they use the bathroom! They weren't holding it the whole time, that's not possible.

The funny thing about writing for me is that i have created LOTS of AUs from my main story, which sometimes i would share with my friend or daydreams about to the point that i mix them up to make MORE AUs in my head. Like, oh if this one takes place in fantasy setting, and that one in highschool setting, why don't we just make this an entirely *new* one in an academy or some sort BUT in a _fantasy_ setting as well? Oooohhh yesssss, give me more of thoseee And that kids, is how i never finish my main storyline but continues to develop deeper and deeper into the side ones as much as i concerned.
