Chris some tips for You: The two biggest problem with E30s are the rear suspension and the front/rear weight distribution. With the rear suspension theres not much you can do, but if you'd like to make the car less nose-heavy you should put an M52B28 single vanos engine inside. Its aluminium block is 28kg lighter right where it matters: on the front axle, and it also has more power, 193hp as stock. If you put an M50TUB25 single vanos air intake throttle body ecu afm so basically everything from an M50TUB25 engine onto the M52B28 and remap the M50's Bosch 413 Ecu to give the more fuel needed for the extra 300cm3 you'll get 230hp easily and the whole thing would cost less than 500GBP. You will be able to use the existing gearbox clutch flywheel, starter motor (only if the flywheel is kept) propshaft, cooling system, (for using the oil cooling of the 325i you'll need an oil filter house from an S50engine but that still isn't expensive) the rear part of the exhaust, etc. Btw you'll need an E34 M50 oil pan and and oil pump intake pipe. Benefits? More power, more low-end torque which is useful using a gearbox like yours, less weight (on the front!), less ability to lose oil pressure when cornering hard or changing direction, easily remappable (let's say home-remappable) Bosch 413 ecu... That's the best way forward! Keep going! ;)

m52 weighs more than an m20 and just stock the e30 has about 53/47 weight distribution so that's pretty good

Alloy block is a lot less common. That's not coming out of an e36

Running in a rally like this one is a dream of mine. Chris Harris is a lucky guy. He must wake up in the morning and say isn't it great to be me. I really like the video because it is not about someone with deep pockets with the best of the best. It is a realistic car that most people could easily afford and build. Great footage. Good notes from the copilot. Great driving. Can't waite to see more.

Think of it this way: What if you hadn't realized the oil was leaking? If you'd have just went for the 3rd stage you'd have got five hundred meters and then the engine cuts, you check to see what's happened, see there's no oil and the motor is totally ruined, you might as well just trash it all together. At least now you only need to fix the leakage and fill it up with oil and you have a perfectly working toy again!

I payed £1200 for it in 2002,drove it properly for 3 years covering 45k miles and i only ever spent money on a rotten front wing. Passed it's mot 3 times and i didn't replace anything on it. It was rapid,basic but mad happy fun. Sold it for £500 nwith a full m.o.t and 221k on the clock.

The numbers correspond to the severity or radius of the corner, a lower number is sharper than a higher number or vice versa. As for the notes, the rally either gives them pre made notes or they write their own after a pre-run of the stage. They are usually provided though i believe.

@Seriousmods12 жыл бұрын
Great piece of driving there. You know there is something special about dirt rally racing. The navigator reading the list of navigational gibberish, the cars spurting fire and black smoke from their tailpipes, the drivers wrestling the wheel from side to side as if they were wrangling a Bronto bull, the rich throaty sound of engines being pushed to their limits, and the diehard fans standing in their coats on muddy hills to catch a small part of the action. There is nothing like it.

Google "pacenotes" if you want more info on the racing notes. The larger numbers are distances, the smaller numbers tell the driver how sharp the turn is. It sounds complicated, but once you get used to them, they are a great driver's aide.

The numbers are not a gear indication, it is a corner severity note. They range 1-6 with 1 being a very tight hairpin type turn and 6 being a slight bend.

The numbers 20, 30, 40, 50 etc is the length (in meters I assume) of the straight away before the next turn. The numbers 1-6 indicate the severity of the curve, 1 being a hairpin and 6 being just a slight curve. So if it sounds like he says "66 left" he means "60, 6 left" or 60 meters of straight road and then a slight left curve. Hope that helps...

@GrannySmith131312 жыл бұрын
The numbers indicate the gear used through the corner (or the speed). So a 5 or 6 right is a very fast right corner. A '2 left into 3 right, don't cut' means you have a slow, second gear left corner going into a third gear right corner, which you can not cut (probably because of rocks or something on the inside of the corner). The longer numbers you hear (100, 300, 600) are the straights between the corners. Jumps are jumps, crests are crests. Cut means cut the corner, because you can.
@mx5hong12 жыл бұрын
I believe the single number is how sharp the turn is. Like a sharpness grade. In the US, I believe with the SCCA rallies, everybody gets the same notes. While in the WRC, during the recce, the driver and co-driver could use whatever system they're comfortable with.

I think its more due to the mindset. drivers with cheap cars are there to race and have fun with little back pressure, while most expensive cars have sponsors demanding things and drivers totaly focused on winning, 2nd place is not were they want to be.
@Gherbert134812 жыл бұрын

The numbers that the co driver is reading is called the rally script. He is describing the corners, their intensity, also he is telling him how surface conditions are, and what speed to go through them, and also he is describing turning angles, That way Chris can drive as fast as possible knowing what is ahead of him.
