Fire was another great S1 episode. Again possibly a homage to Stephen King's Firestarter. Amanda Pays makes a guest appearance here was a very famous drama actress in the UK before going to America. Funny when Scully says to Mulder 'is that what you were extending'. A obvious jealousy from Scully towards Pheobe Green as her and Mulder had a relationship when he was in England. A great scene when he sets the bar on fire, and very suspenseful scenes with the fire flash over and Mulder trapped in the house. Again a real creepy ending when he is is still alive in the pod. Interestingly enough Inspector Green was to be a recurring character but Chris Carter dropped the idea a hes feared a fan backlash of a rival to the Mulder/Scully relationship.

I think not having her as a recurring character is good, because I despised her so much :D Not that she was a bad character or it made for a bad story. But I think if she were to return multiple times, it would get irritating.

Thank you for another great X-Files reaction. It's an enjoyable episode. Just about everyone in the fandom hates Phobe Green! 😡The story that Mulder tells Scully about why he has a fear of fire actually happened to Chris Carter as a boy. In the sequence where Mulder goes down the passage with the fire burning up on the walls each side - when he reacts as though his left hand has been burnt - it actually had. I saw David and Chris at an event in L.A. and David was joking that he was going to sue Chris!

Thank YOU for watching! :) And yeah, Phoebe sucks! Someone else mentioned she would have been a recurring character but they feared fan backlash, which is kind of a crappy thing for the actress: you lose future work because you did your first job TOO well? That sucks :D

Maybe Mulder has a type...?

He needs a BETTER type :D

Why do we like her? She's pretty and she's brilliant :). Speaking from personal experience men have trouble seeing the red flags or more correctly ignore them.

I suppose this is true. I'm curious why that is. I imagine it has at least a little to do with the fact ya'll feel more faith in your ability to protect yourselves if things do go way wrong with a red-flag person. Not saying a woman can't be the aggressor in a situation or can't grab a weapon to gain an advantage, but I do know that if one of my exes kissed me without my consent and was behaving the way Phoebe was. . . I wouldn't want to be left alone with them. That's someone who puts their own pleasures before everyone else's NEEDS, and that's a crappy and potentially predatory person.

@@nebulousreactions Good comment. Why? Have you heard about love bombing by narcissists (men and women)? That is what Phobe was doing to Fox. Then you get the gaslighting too. I did usually feel physically safe but I had to lock myself in the bathroom a few times because what am I going to do? Fight her? Sorry if I'm oversharing.

@@nebulousreactions I'm sorry if this comes through twice. I wrote a reply a few hours ago but it didn't seem to come through (that happens sometimes). So I'm going to summarise. Pheobe is a narcissist. gas lighting and love bombing. I've locked myself in the bathroom, because how can I fight a woman much smaller than me?

This is my 3rd time trying to reply to your cogent comment and is just a test. Edit: this got through :). What I wanted to say was that Phobe is obviously a narcissist who uses love bombing and gaslighting. In regards to feeling secure as a male I get that, however, I've had to lock myself in the bathroom because I'm not going to fight with my daughter's mum and someone much smaller than me even when they start throwing stuff and slapping and clawing.

@@EL_Duderino68 Yeah, that is the other half of being physically bigger but a decent human being; even if you are capable of protecting yourself, you're reluctant to do so against someone so much smaller, even if they deserve it, because you don't want to hurt them. Plus, there's a lifetime of conditioning to "never hit a woman" to consider, though I'm of the mindset that if a woman hits a man for any reason other than self-defense, he has every right to hit her back. Equality, after all! ;)
