Obviously they carried out the platonic part of their relationship at least one or two seasons too long, but the one that annoyed me the most was the forehead kiss at the end of season 7, episode 2. They told each other they were each other‘s touchstone, and then Scully kisses his bandaged forehead. What made the timing even worse is that they finally had them kiss just two episodes later. While that kiss was fine, the timing of the earlier episode would have been much better. The stuff they said to each other was basically wedding vows.

We were lucky to get even that - Chris Carter intended the scene to end with Mulder left sitting on his sofa crying about Diana! It was down to David 💜 insisting on rewriting the end that we got the whole touchstone thing at all.

A forehead kiss has a different meaning in my opinion. Less romantic but more "I care for you deeply and I love your soul" kind of way. It was more like she's just so grateful to have him in her life and "thank you for being there" kind of kiss.

Personally, I think the forehead kiss worked. Scully had just given Mulder an incredibly sad piece of news and for the show to turn that into one of them making a move would have felt cheap to me. It's for the same reason I'm actually glad we didn't get a kiss during their big scene together in Memento Mori. I want their romantic moments to be about each other --- not about grief or sadness. I think it was enough in 7x02 that they told each other how they felt and let things progress naturally from there. One could argue it would have been nicer to see more of it unfold on the screen, but... I maintain my view on it.

I didn't really care about the whole fantastic part of the story but the two main leads. I really waited them to be together. I stopped watching - I forgot why, it was long ago. Okay as much as these all made me giddy. I’m watching this series for the first time I’m on season 3 episode 9 and I don’t think I’m going to go any further because wtf. Why didn’t they capitalise on all this potential. I thought I was getting the shit scared out of me for a reason and that reason was an eventual (and by that I mean imminent) satisfactory coming together. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 7 lip kisses!? I’m sooooooo mad. The chemistry is off the fking charts from S1 E1 and we don’t get a legitimate kiss till S7 AND there’s fking 25 eps a season. I hate it here.
