Getting rid of day ones, discounts, AND the ea bundle on the $15 membership sucks. As a student I just don’t have $20 a month to spend on this I already canceled Netflix and Max after the price increases. I make the same amount of money I did 2 years ago having to work in retail, yet would be paying substantially more this year for the same quality of stuff each month. It’s just not worth it and not sustainable. I’ve started reading more and getting into art because they’re more affordable hobbies. Gaming’s just too expensive if you don’t have a PC or a full time job.

Yeah gamepass is ok but definitely doesn’t worth $240 , may be after 2 or 3 game releases get game pass for a month and cancel after, that way you can play those relatively new games in just one month, no need to pay the whole yearly fee. And from the money u saved you can buy other good game that you like and get to own them.

And let's just round it to say it takes 6 months for the price of gamepass to equal one game. If I'm a COD fan and a primary COD gamer.... I really don't see how it's better to pay $20 a month to get COD over just buying it at $70. At $20 a month, at just 4 months, I would have already overpaid for COD than just buying it at $70 at launch. This isn't going to be the killer app M$ is hoping for. And yet people freaked out way more about the rise in PS plus, and there is still people calling Gamepass the best deal in gaming. As someone who was an Xbot since the 360 and only bought a PS5 last year alongside my series X, I can honestly say PS plus offers FAR more value. Bigger titles, monthly free games (well done Xbox for removing that) and the trials and classics catalogue. Still shocked that public perception is that Gamepass is better when my experience over the years is that’s it’s chock full of crappy little games where 1/100 might be ok, then some older mainstream games but not a lot and the big seller was day one games which they are already looking to twist and make you pay more for. PS plus all day imo.

Its not about the sub count, its the overall revenue. Thats the game all sub services play, they know people will cancel with price increase, they try to price it so the the remaining subscribers generate more revenue than they lose from cancellations. You're 100% correct. GP is only a great value if you play a lot of games in a year or play a lot of $70 games in a year AND if the $70 game is actually on GP. People keep saying how GP is great because you don't have to pay $70 for games, but never mention how most third party games are not even on GP. In 2023 I bought 3 $70 games. Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy and Baldur's Gate 3. None of those games were on GP then and still aren't today. So FOR ME (I'm just talking about myself people) GP is a waste of money. Spending $20 a month for older games that I already own, or for games that do not interest me seems like a waste, if I have to still pay $70 for something that I actually want to play. With that said many people out there love GP and I'm happy for them and it sucks that the price is going up.

My biggest issue with services like gamepss and ps+ is that once subscribed you are no longer playing games at your own pace. Rather you’re now on their clock and if you don’t get to a certain game by the time it’s removed, you just missed out on something you were paying for. You now have to either rush through whatever you’re currently playing to get to that next thing or have to stop what you’re playing to see lay this other thing and hopefully beat it before it’s removed, or before the thing you were playing before gets removed. Personally I just can’t play like that, and I don’t know how others do it or justify playing in such away. Just doesn’t seem like you can enjoy the games if every game is played like it’s a speed run.

This is what really did it in for me, too. I'm the kind of person who can't even enjoy timed puzzles. I spend my whole day on the clock for something called "a job." When I get home, I want the choice to just pick through a game at my own pace, and even take a few weeks or months to plumb the depths of one I really enjoy without feeling like I'm wasting time/money because of the opportunity cost of all the other games going unplayed on my subscription. All this does is cement the fact that it's not only more enjoyable but probably also more economical to just buy a la carte when things go on sale and take my time enjoying them until the next sale.

It's still dumb to raise the price of XGPU just because of a specific game. Nobody's gonna say "I wasn't subscribed, but now they've increased the price by a couple of $ a month, sign me up!". They shot themselves in the foot & they lied saying "Activision merger won't increase GamePass price". XGPU stopped being worth it & Xbox cannibalized their own GP sales with this price hike. Before, it was affordable & smart to buy Game Pass to play the new CoD, now it's not, it's $240 a year when the game is $70. Lack of growth of XGP is entirely Xbox & MS fault. And they are essentially punishing their existing users increasing the price because of their own mistakes. Instead, they should've done an "Ultimate Pro" tier, (ultimate benefits + CoD) at $20, and leave everything else unchanged. Big corpo infinite money glitch: 1. Release already existing product/service in their own ecosystem 2. After a few months/years. Raise the cost by 5-10%. Add additional features 3. Start to talk about how you’re “losing” money 4. Raise the price of the service 30-40%; create tiers; remove features 5. Repeat steps 1-4 and slowly force consumers into anti-consumer products

This! 1. Using the Microsoft Store on a daily basis is a glitchy hellscape for some reason. Bought Forza 4 on the MS Store, it lost all my Forza data AND purchases with it, they restored my DLC but all my custom cars are gone.. never again. 2. We need all the Xbox Game Pass games whether it is an emulator or cloud 3. Just like you said, the Steam releases are prob more updated & Steam overall has better systems. The MS Store reliability worries me and needs to get better somehow or just use Steam to access game pass somehow. Steam is where it is at for better or worse. 4. No Linux, Mac, Alt OS version, you have to use the MS Store on Windows to use it. So no native Game Pass on something like the Steam Deck or Gaming Systems systems that don't use Windows. I have a lot of Linux PCs and Steam and my whole library works on Linux & in turn GOG, EPIC, Ubisoft all work on alt systems using it. Mac has some support too, though no as much as Linux. 5. I struggle to trust Microsoft keeping there word on anything. That needs to change somehow.

The biggest issue with ALL of this... is the fact that console users are still having to pay for ONLINE access for multiplayer games. You literally cannot play with your friends unless you pay $10 a month or $6.25 per month for a year. I play maybe 3 games and 2 of those are multiplayer. NHL and COD. So, because I need online access, I HAVE to pay for gamepass core. But the real kicker is that those games allow you to play against PC players that do not have to pay an Online fee. Why do I still own a console???!

The BIG problem is they nerfed Game Pass for Console, and only giving Day One Releases + Cloud Gaming to console users with Game Pass Ultimate. This is BS. Game Pass Standard SHOULD include Day One releases. I have always seen Ultimate as the COMBINATION of the best of both console and PC. I would prefer to see: - Game Pass Core = Xbox Network + either 25 Games or Back Catalogue + Deals @ $9.99 per month (or $69.99 Annually) - Game Pass Standard = Xbox Network + Back Catalogue + Day One Releases + Deals @ $14.99 per month - Game Pass PC = Back Catalogue + Day One Releases + Deals + EA Play @ $11.99 per month - Game Pass Ultimate = Combination of Game Pass Standard & Game Pass PC + Cloud Gaming + Perks @ $19.99 per month Only Ultimate would include Cloud gaming natively. I would then create Xbox Cloud Gaming as a separate item that could be added to either Core, Standard, or PC for $1.99 extra per month. Bottom line: There needs to be a Tier for console that includes Day One Releases without having to go to Ultimate (where console gamers are paying for PC access and Cloud gaming they may not want or ever use). And YES! Online access should be FREE on consoles!

So, GP launched in June 2017, it was such a disaster for them they did day one games a year later. Then in 2019, they had to do game pass ultimate because 2 years of trying to push TWO SUBS on people wasn't working (for comparison, PS Now since 2014 NEVER required a Plus sub to play online, even on the PC side because PS3 games already had free online back in the day but this never changed when PS4 games launched on the service too, look it up). So then years later, which was 2022 or 2023, they combined gold subs with game pass and now there was no Xbox live gold anymore. And now in 2024 they are essentially adding back in the Xbox Live basic gold lol. Its official, Xbox hasn't an utter clue what they are doing and are just desperately seeing what sticks............. for the past decade straight.

For COD players, it's literally cheaper to just buy the game outright.... A ton of COD players play COD till the next COD release. This for them is just a MASSIVE scam. This goes for any game. If you think you'll play a game for even more then just two months, or you think you'll come back to a game, just fucking buy the game at that point. Why are you giving them so much money for such limited access. For most games, the price for a month, one and doneing a game, still complete fine, but this is manipulative practice for people who play games like COD. Many COD players even go back to old CODs often if the current COD sucks. It's a scam for you if your one of these people. Don't fall for it. You'll be spending a ton more money for each COD, and when you want to stop paying because you realize your getting screwed, it's too late. You spent more then the box price and don't have access to the game anymore. You become trapped in if you want to keep playing or you have to pay the box price in addition to all the money you spent on the sub up to that point. People REALLY need to think about this more. So many people aren't going to put this much thought into it, and will end up paying the 20$ for 12 months, spending well over the box price to just play COD. And people say, "well gamepass is access to a full library". COD players don't play games like this. Probably a majority of gamers don't play games like that.

It's actually enticing for people like me who never cared for COD that much. But I'm definitely gonna try Black Ops 6 out on gamepass on PC cause it's cheaper and I have other games in mind that I wanna check out. It's actually great for people who are not hardcore COD fans but aren't usually willing to spend $70 on a new COD.

Pick one or two games you're looking at, sign up for one month and knock those games out. Don't download a whole bunch of games and get overwhelmed. Just pick up to 2 when you're ready, and try to get them done within a month.

Over the course of a year, I wouldn't spend probably anywhere near the amount on buying games as I would on a year of Game Pass. It's easy to break down my yearly spending per month and compare that to monthly Game Pass or compare yearly spending. For me, it is NOT worth it and never really has been. And I don't even have the time to play all the extra games I could have access to with Game Pass, so that library isn't an incentive either. I usually just wait until games are heavily discounted. Not a big deal for me.

PS Plus is the same thing as Gamepass now. It has some of the best Playstation exclusives like Spiderman, God of war, plus some PS1, PS2, and PS3 games so in some ways, it's better than Gamepass

I think another reason at 5:45 is that they add games that nobody has heard of or has any interest in. So why would you buy gamepass if you'll only play like 20 games out of 100, and some of those games have no replayability.

I cannot really see why is this surprising - everyone with a minimum sense of the gaming industry (from an economics perspective) knew that Game Pass structure and prices made a lot of sense for players, but it was harmful for the industry; particularly day 1 releases for $19.99/month... We may not like it, but PS Plus approach (they only release games there just before, or after, they have exhausted the sales forecasts and new player numbers are decreasing, is the only financially substaintable for studios...if Game Pass doesn't translate into new xboxs within the next 12 months, I can see Xbox being in trouble.

People are missing the point... gaming is an expensive hobby, gampass literally makes gaming cheaper for families.... what the real con here is still having to pay for online on consoles. To play online in the UK on console is £6.99 a month ( £83.88 per year ) same as Playstation. Ultimate per month increased to £14.99 a month ( £179.88 per year ) £18 a year more expensive than Playstation. So lets do the math... £179.88 per year - £83.88 per year ( for online ) = £96 EXTRA a year for getting game pass games plus 1st party day and date... WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND THINKS THATS A RIP OFF!!!! like seriously!! So if you can only buy 2 games a year that are new... thats like £100 - £140 a year... and if you need online thats an additional cost so in total £184 - £224 a year... guess what Game pass is still better value. Everyone is making themselves look complete fools by complaining. If you want to own your games buy them... no one says you cant!!! Prices have to increase... its crappy but thats the reality!!!!! What does suck is the new standard tier at £11.99 per month ( £143.88 per year ) £36 per year cheaper than Ultimate. Even those it will still have 100's of 3rd Party and older 1st party games its still not what gamepass was supposedly sold as!!! ( THIS LITERALLY SUCKS ) But due to it being £36 per year cheaper, its still better value to go Ultimate as if 5-10 new 1st party game release each year its still only costing you an extra £36 instead of £350 - £700 per year extra.. ULTIMATE is still a fantastic deal no matter which way you look at.. Unless you only play games like fortnite, cod/warzone, fifa or just 1-2 games in generall.. then gamepass isnt clearly marketted to you. I honestly don't feel like this is that big of a deal tbh. For example, if you're on PlayStation: You need at least the lowest level of PSN to play Multiplayer, so like $60? Then if you average even 2 Triple A games per year that's another $140, so we're at $210 already. Game Pass Ultimate is $240 a year gives you access to 400+ games and all first party titles day one. I understand the "Ownership" argument and I can only speak for myself on this one, but 95% of the single player games I ever play, I will play through once, maybe twice if I had a good time and want to clean up all the achievements. The other 5% I really wanna own, I will just pick them up on sale down the line. I get it's not for everyone, but I still think GPU is great value.

Any product or service can be justified. It all depends on your point of view on value. Some think that spending over $400 a year on Fortnight bucks or Apex bucks is justified because that's the only game they played all year. You can also certainly enjoy Game Pass but your enjoyment aside this is a marketing strategy they've been working towards and this won't be the only price increase either, just give it time and in your case enjoy it till then. Most people never fully take advantage of these things and it just lowers people's overall perspective of price vs value on games even more because "I'll just wait till it's on game pass"

How do you not see a problem with this? They literally took the cheapest tier made it more expensive and took away literally the only thing that distinguished it from ps+. Without day one first party in core, it’s no different than ps+. In fact it’s even less value than ps+ as it’s more expensive and it lost the only thing that would put it ahead of it by removing day and date with their first party. Now you can’t claim gamepss is day and date if not all of gamepss is day and date. May as well remove the “gamepss” label off of core and just call it live again, or gold.
