This engine in the LR2 (Freelander 2 if you live in Europe) was one of the things that made it more reliable than the first generation Freelander. That 6 speed is an Aisin unit, used in many Toyota and Lexus vehicles in the 2010s, so they're going to be reliable as long as you maintain your transmission.

Great Great review. I drive 2007 XC90 3.2 one of the first cars from that generation. It really is what they say about it, reliable, efficient, elegant. it will be 20 year old soon but drives much smoother then many new cars in my country. High to everyone from Georgia (not the state, the country)

Man if only a car company had an engine lineup like this: transverse: 1.5L I3; 2.0L I4; 3.0L V6 longitudinal: 2.5L I5; 3.0L I6; 4.0L V8 0.5 liters per cylinder is apparently ideal for efficiency, and you get more cylinders for the same displacement which is always a win. It was absolutely wild from Volvo to put an inline-6 transversally into an engine bay but turning circle and ease of maintenance and repair were compromised because of it.
@microcolonel
@microcolonel 6 ай бұрын
Not sure what you mean regarding maintenance.. it's very easy. All the ignition parts and sensors on the SI6 are accessible right on top, everything on the accessory belt can be serviced in a driveway. There's actually a decent amount of space left over in the engine bay.

Why it's super expensive to mentain the v8? Is there some iissues in it
@EisenWald_CH
@EisenWald_CH 4 ай бұрын
@@alameri563 kinda late of a response, but it's a very crammed space in the engine bay with the V8, so if you need to make any change it comes with waaaay more hours of work than normal because of it, also it's a low volume engine so the other engines are easier to get parts for (i suppose, but the v8 is kinda based in a boat engine that yamaha produces so maybe they have a similar amount of parts in those that are compatible).

Good to watch, thanks! My new 2007 3.2 RHD 84,400km from Japan just cleared Canadian customs in Vancouver, tomorrow the train for Toronto. Going to use it on my rural postal route, it will replace my 2004 Subaru Forester EJ205 JDM. The Subaru did three years and 120k/km of trouble free postal use, what do you all think? This car is one of my favorites! The 3.2l in-line 6 is a pretty good engine with decent power just you may have to push it a little harder than other engines. They sound great too. Forgot to mention I have an 07 and it’s still really smooth running and is very comfortable on the highway. I also noticed mine loves to do nothing but second and third gear pulls. It will not downshift to first even if it’s going slow enough to.

I have a 2010 3.2 AWD and the way I describe its acceleration is lethargic. It wants to be no thrills on a regular basis but when I want it to go it will begrudgingly go. I can outrun a Nissan Rogue from a stop light as long as I react fast enough! 😂 But I drove Toyota Corolla for years and the only way I could win a race in that thing was if the other person didn’t know we were racing. It definitely is sure-footed though and I regularly do 90+ mph on the highway. I view it like the Corolla I drove, definitely won’t win from a stop but I tend to drive faster than many people so eventually I just blow by them anyway. I never fear hydroplaning either - I’ve got great tires on it and it really does real like a tank. I do love the sounds the V8 makes although I have never actually been in one. I have tan leather and it has aged just like this one. I clean it and condition it to prolong the life but at the end of the day, I don’t care if it’s cracked as long as my seat heater still works. I think you give a little too much credit to it for leg room - I am 6 feet tall and I have family who are also 6 feet tall and they complain sitting in the 2nd row about not having leg room, forget about the 3rd row, I keep it down most of the time but it has been useful in the past. I bought this because I thought I’d never hear another passenger complain of leg room and somehow I still get that a lot.

Yes, the newer models from 2015 upwards aren’t really reliable, sadly. However, no car brand has done pretty well since that time. Digitisation and “hybridisation” has created cars that are less mechanical and therefore prone to breakdowns.

Early models can have AWD issues, early V8's can have transmission issues, oil leaks, but if they're maintained they'll go far! I recommend the 03-05 2.5T, or the 3.2/V8 after 2007!

I didn’t know you did this. The three-point two is mediocre. I don’t care what people say. Oil consumption started for me around 100,000 miles . And coupled with the transmission. It’s very lazy. I don’t need sporty but still. I also think the PCV system is kind of dumb. But it has been reliable and a workhorse. I have 125,000 miles on it now. Once it hits 200 I’m done. The only main issue I had were three blower motors, an ecu , new struts and a starter. Not bad for 12 years of ownership so far far from new.
