LOL - my previous comment must have been channelling the future me! Had to replace broken belt on daughter's XC90 - this video was a lifesaver! I must have watched it 20 times while replacing the belt, idler pulley, tensioner, and water pump. FYI - there's a cable that can also be moved out of the way to get just a little more room under the ABS block so it's easier to reach the bolt behind the power steering pump.

My guy!!! This tutorial likely saved me hundreds of dollars. Thank you for the clear explanation and the rather good camera work! Your efforts are appreciated.

thanks for the video...moving the power steering pump out of the way and getting the belt off took the most time...very little room to move the pump. I loosened the ABS pump mount which helped, but still not as much room as it looks like you have in your video :)

Very informative. Just followed this instruction video and finished belt, water pump, idler and tensioner pulley, decoupler pulley and seal, vacuum pump seal, fuel pressure sensor. Was not intended to do these but saw some cross cracks on the belt when replacing alternator voltage regulator (the initial problem was a failed alternator). Since the air intake is already removed to access alternator, decided to replace the thermostat because it is right under the intake. Then notice the cracks on the belt. A smaller project became a gigantic maintenance job 🤣🤣🤣. My car sits on ramp for three weeks (most time is waiting for parts). At lease I will be having the peace of mind for another 100K miles 😛😛. The hardest part I think is moving the power steering pump away. Have to repeat watching the video a couple more times before noticed that Mike actually rotated the steering pump to the front so the elbow connecting the reservoir rotate away from ABS module. A small trick hope to help everyone else.

great video, its given me (a non-car guy/non-mechanic) the confidence to try this. I'm actually a third of the way through. Although can I suggest that you don't ffwd through the parts where you actually bolt/unbolt things. It's a bit difficult to see which bolts you're actually working on when the vid is sped up. I put it to 0.5 speed when the music plays. :)

Mike, that little silencer is called a Helmholtz resonator. Well this video put me off ever owning an XC90/70 lol. It makes my E83 look like a simple, easy to service vehicle by comparison. Who came up with this design? Needing to disconnect the DME before replacing the air filter really had me scratching my head.

Oh yeah. Quoted $1600 plus for the job. After 10 years the car is t really worth double that. Definitely DIY if you can

When you put the hex key in the tensioner do you need to turn it to lock the tensioner in place, or once you compress the tensioner enough should the hex just slide further into the hole thus locking the tensioner in place? I’m using a 3mm hex have spent more than an hour trying to figure out how to lock this thing.

And I thought the Porsche Cayenne GTS water pump and thermostat was a bit of a pain - the transverse mount of the I6 on the Volvo requires removing a lot more parts that are in the way. Excellent video with lots of detail - just the way I like it!

Why can you not show in real time how to find the fastener initially and then speed up the video so it doesn't take so much time but at least show the person that has never seen it before where the fasteners actually are and how to access them. Thank you.

FCP, I noticed you did not use the Special Volvo Tool (9997265) for Decoupler Pulley Seal, is this neccessary? I've heard it is necessary to avoid leaks. Thank you for covering this engine, it doesn't seem to be covered elsewhere. 😊

Nice video. I’d like to do this repair on my 2007 XC90, which I believe does not have the a/c bracket locating dowels. Is the alignment tool absolutely necessary, or is there a DIY work around? Thanks in advance!

I notice you did not used the Special Volvo Tool for AC alignment, is it really necessary???
@fcpeuro8 ай бұрын
Hello, as stated, there is a split for these cars; the later vehicles, like the one in the video, do not need it as it is keyed; earlier style models will need the alignment tool.

In the middle of the job and the decoupler pulley will not turn in either direction I’m guessing I need a new decoupler pulley?
@erikschutzman89527 ай бұрын
I would suggest replacing the decoupler pulley because it gets a lot of stress. Mine rotated if I put some force on it to rotate it.

Check CEM module. Most likely overheating CEM. A 12V computer fan is an easy and cheap fix or send it to XeModex to fix for $1000.
