Thank you! Coming back and started hitting balls after 15 years of leaving the game the new swing these days hurt my back lol. The good old classic swing is still king and saves my back too.

The best video I have seen on KZbin. And best instruction too. Believe me, I have met quite a few instructors in my lifetime, and Phil ranks as the best. Too bad I am in Quebec and he in Minnesota. I would be regular of his classes. Thanks Phil.

Of all the videos I've seen (Leadbetter included) this is the best no bullshit explanation of the golf swing. Well done

I am about a 22 handicap and an old guy who just figured this out. The thought in my head on the backswing is to point the butt end of the club down the line behind the ball then on the downswing bring the butt end at the ball. sounds similar to what you are saying here. in any event I just started doing this a couple of months ago..distance increased due to great ball striking as well as accuracy on shorter irons. funny thing i thought it was something silly that worked for me so didnt tellpals

Thanks for the positive comment. I mainly try to explain things in plain English. Good luck! phil

Oooops, late reply: The rev C usually indicates a push down the target line with the club/arms. If the swing is in plane (from impact to open left shoulder) the spine would be relatively vertical. Just like Hogan! The tilt they're talking about may be BEFORE impact...

I think for every 5 teachers, 2 would confirm this method and 3 would say like Hogan that "they wish they had 3 right hands". Problem with this imaging and use of language is that your throwing hand in a right hand golfer when you skip a rock across the water is not the left but the right hand correct? Power hitters think of a very strong move of the right elbow coming down from the top and right towards the ball so that the whip release of the throw is made thru impact. Its the same motion of a shortstop throwing to first base or a pitcher or a frisbee thrower or a rock skipper. There is inherent disagreement here and many teachers would say NEVER pull down with the left arm that it is totally unnecessary since centrifugal force does the work for you.

1- Both sides of the body are required to swing the club. The left 'pulls', the right pushes. I really don't like the term 'pull', as it connotes an independent left arm motion. The move from the top is to take the entire top-of-backswing structure and rotate it to about half way down (following the lower body). This looks like a 'pull' with the left arm but is not. I prefer 'left arm dominance'. Now from half way down, go ahead and fire the right side all you want (within balance, of course). 2- The "right elbow coming down from the top and right towards the ball"... this is actually a submissive position. 3- You must DO SOMETHING to create centrifugal force, it doesn't happen by itself.

Definitely! Even chipping/sand etc. You'll feel like you hit the ball with the butt end of the grip. Keep on it!

When i see your impact position, your hips are slightly open to the target, lets say some 5 degrees left, with plenty of rotation left for the full turn. I see in long hitters that on the impact position their hips have almost fully rotated and you can see their but completly from behind the swing. When you rotate the club in front of the ball to square the face you do it from your hips as you still have plenty of rotation left on your hip turn. This knocks 10 yards of my shots.

Look how he keeps the arms close to the body and stays connected, even though he is demonstrating more of 2P "swing" and roll release. Also emphasis on keeping the body turning through the shot.

Great video. Thank you. My feeling is of my left arm sliding down the chest. The other move which you suggest whete the butt end is hitting the bigger imaginary ball creates more power but timing that is hard!

Sambhu: From 1/2 down to impact to 1/2 thru there is no change in the relationship of the club/arms to the upper body. 1/2 down, impact, and 1/2 thru are all the same position. So the body and the arms/club move to these positions together.

Could be, or maybe you lack rotation. For the club to bottom out at impact, the face must rotate 180º thru the ball. Relax and let it happen. Do not try and square the club at impact! Let in close whenever it wants to, which may seem to early for you.

Agree. But to get the 'move together' feel, sometimes you have to explain both sides.... phil

@no2pump Well, both, or neither. I don't think this way. I just try to maintain the same position I had at set-up, The Y Shape, and turn.

Don't know if it's done with the hips or the hands. As they work together one could say either way. This is the classic 'Outside moves the inside' vs 'Inside moves the outside' discussion/argument. To me doesn't matter, inside & outside work together.

Pull is the difficult part because how much to pull? Where the club should be when u pull down?

How far u drop or pull down the club in downswing?

Don't try to square up at impact. Do Not Try. Thru the ball you want 90º open to 0º(impact) to 90º closed. Grip the club perfectly and let the grip, the way you hold the club, square up the face. Left hand 3 knuckles. Check my 3/4 Position Exercise. Luck........
