I have a TSR 700 from Costco and I got it on sale about 2+ years ago for $349. Before this receiver, I had a 10 year old 1080p / 5.1 Yamaha Avantage receiver. Nice review! I run this receiver with Klipsch speakers...R-625FA, center channel, and 2 12" Klipsch subs. The sound is great. My main gripe with the receiver is that the display showing the input selection on the television, doesn't keep up with cycling through the inputs with the remote. I usually use my phone to select the input I want, but if it's not near me then I'll have to use the remote and it can be annoying having to wait to see which input is selected. Other than that, I love the receiver.

Great review. What would u suggest btwn Yamaha RxV6A and Denon X1800H? Thank you in advance. Keep up da great work.✌️✌️✌️
@starazure26 күн бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. The Denon X1800H has a better calibration Audyssey so unless you intend to spend $250 more on a EQ device such as miniDSP that is definitely a plus. The yamaha's YPAO calibration is decent but I had to measure using the Room EQ Wizard (REW) and adjust levels myself. Both have zone 2 which is actually useful if you can run wires to another room or outdoor speakers. Yamaha has more power (100W) vs 80W for Denon so better audio especially with less sensitive speakers but this power demand comes into play only in rare cases where many speakers need to play lots of sound simultaneously. Denon can upscale video to 4K and 8K while Yamaha just 4k if you will use an 8K display. Yamaha has a better built in DAC so overall audio quality is better. Very close in performance but Yamaha has slightly better components while Denon has slightly better software. Good luck.

Interesting, informative and succinct video! I have my RX-V6A hooked up to a massive (passive) Elac soundbar model "Muro" MSB41L. It's over 60" wide and almost 30 lbs! This handles L/R/C duties masterfully. Elac ceiling mounted 2-way speakers support the rear channels. Low end is covered well by an SVS PB-1000 Pro sub. Together all fantastically support an 83" LG C2 Evo 4K OLED panel. It fills our greatroom with beautiful and majestic sound / wife love the small footprint (and the sound). Thanks for the kind words. The V6A should be good for your setup. Those 3050I towers are 6Ohm which is drivable with this receiver. Atmos is really worth it for movies. For music just need good Front Left and Front Right with a decent subwoofer. Most movies c9me with 5.1 Atmos audio and adding the two height channels gives it an extra dimension. Having said that the atmos height speakers participate the least and only come into play for things like helicopter.

The main advantages would be 4K120 and 8K60 plus 110W per channel. However at that price you should be able to get a better calibration than YPAO. Marantz Cinema 60 which on Marantz website is selling for Extra 25% on their site for Marantz Recertified. Take a look too see if that's something you are interested. A4A would be great but at that price I don't really love the calibration which is important unless you get a miniDSP and put in some work on your own calibration using REW software. Good luck

I am going to upgrade the 373 to this RX-V6A, I am just a bit worried that my 5.1 speakers which are all 4 ohm (Wharfedale DX-1) won't be the best match. I think the RX-V6A will definitely be better for my speakers than the RX-V373 because it will be supplying more power but do you think the ohms matter if you don't have the volume very high? I only have a smallish room and usually the volume is set to -20db as maximum. One day I will change my speakers, but first I wanted to change receiver and TV. Thank you!

Nice review! I would have loved to see a bit more about the interface and daily operation of the receiver. Is it easy enough for the partner and kids to operate? For example, I see you operate Spotify et al through the MusicCast app. Does this mean you can't use Spotify directly? How is it to switch to radio stations and internet radio using only the front panel? Does the TV have to be turned on to browse sources when not using the app? Can the listening profiles be personal preferences, or is there just one profile per source? How easy is it to switch between stereo sound through TV speakers and surround through the receiver? In other words, how is this receiver when sharing your home with non-audiophiles?
@starazure Жыл бұрын
Thank you - I try to strike a balance between audio being too long and still being informative. To switch main sources, you turn the little knob on the front panel and it circles through all sources. TV does not need to be turned on for this BUT remember if you have CEC (HDMI communication of devices with your TV) enabled, it will automatically turn on. And if you dont have CEC enabled you will have to manually turn TV/receiver both on using their respective remotes when needed. Radio tuning and presets are well explained here - manual.yamaha.com/av/20/tsr700/en-US/4620499339.html. To share audio with non audiophiles simply press the 'pure direct' button on the remote or turn the receiver off using its remote (again depending on CEC it may turn TV off as well). Hope this helps !

@@starazure Thanks, totally agree with the trouble of finding a balance between being informative and boring! 🙂 I will have to do more research, I don't think my partner will appreciate the TV switching on when she want to listen to radio or podcasts. @@starazureJust bought the Y-Splitter today, no change unfortunately. The subwoofer is audible and plays just fine when watching movies, even when streaming music from Tidal or Spotify in 2ch channel stereo. But when playing from a source like a CD player, the bass is almost none existent. Even after playing with the LEVEL & TRIM (subwoofer) settings. This is said to be the case with the Aventage line as well. Strange!!!🙆🏻♂️ However, after scouring the AV Forums (including Yamaha’s own Forum) I stumbled upon this recommendation for bass management settings: (Found under: *Setup* -> *Speaker* -> *Configuration* ) *Subwoofer:* Use *FRONT:* Large *Extra Bass:* On My concern with these settings is the issue of the unit running hot. With the FRONT set to LARGE, this renders the MAINS “Full Range” and crossover points are bypassed (they are actually greyed out when these settings are effected), and then there’s the “EXTRA BASS” issue which I don’t really understand if the MAINS are not crossing over?🤔 But that’s the only way I could get the subwoofer to work with 2ch stereo. The bass may also be a bit bloated/boomy in some instances/songs. With my Onkyo TX-NR686 Receiver, I could configure my 2ch to *“MAINS + LFE”* but for some odd reason you don’t get that in a Yamaha. Thought the V6A was an “upgrade”… but looks like I was wrong. Spoke to my Dealer about returning the unit. Maybe I go back to Onkyo.😤🥲😭🙆🏻♂️

Yamaha's generally don't run hot. They can be warm to the touch, but not hot. Unless of course your crossover settings are bit low and you running your speakers full range. Then that can demand more power from the Receiver, thus making run hot. Cross your speakers a little high, at about 80hz and run an active subwoofer for all the lower registers. That's what I've done, and my AVR runs cool. Oh! Wait! I had to literally break my TV stand to create more headroom for the Receiver!!😂👍

Thinking of buying this or an RX-4A for a bonus room. Want to upgrade to a smart receiver with Bluetooth and other connectivity options such as you describe. Since you indicate the pass through big is fixed, that answers one of my questions. Do you think this is a good fit for some old school Klipsch KG3.5 and a Klipsch center. It has to be easy for my wife to use or I will suffer consequences and will naturally deflect all blame to you. Are there any others in this price range that are any more intuitive with similar specs and quality. I lean to Yamaha based on good past experience btw. 10:39
@starazure Жыл бұрын
Ha ha. All blame on me sounds good. No pressure there. LOL Receivers can be clunky but if you set them up correctly and make it seem like receiver does not exist, anyone can use it. I will give you a few pointers which you probably already know. The goal is to not use receiver remote as much as possible. 1) Try to default to one hdmi that can do most things - for example my Xbox has all apps and is also used as a disc player so I rarely need to switch to another hdmi input. You could use may be a fire tv stick or google tv so your wife can just use that one remote. 2) Set default start up settings - the Yamaha receiver can be set to a start up volume. Also it defaults to last used audio settings which I leave as AFD that detects if source has 5.1 surround if playing netflix etc. 3) Calibrate all speakers, subwoofers and set it up perfectly so your wife will not need to worry about fiddling with such settings. There are other tricks like these if you look into settings and play with the receiver. The only time you will need the receiver remote is to switch to another hdmi input, or Bluetooth, or radio. Other than that, I would just ignore the fact that you have a receiver. I use just my Xbox controller 90% of the time. Oh and also set CEC on your tv so the receiver turns off and on with the TV. Any questions let me know I will be happy to help. I would also wait for black Friday for deals. I plan to hunt for deals and post them on my site dealete.com.

@carlosruben036 Whats the model of your Cerwin speakers? Is that for the Front ? What's your budget for Subwoofer and Center speaker? That Yamaha Subwoofer is junk!

Appreciate your efforts, i sadly see no comments coming in, I've done lots of online search for a review of this product, well i could see 95% of them tested the only movie called Godzilla vs Kong, i don't watch actions all time, I was drama, adventure etc, let me know how does it really sounds for Baby Driver, this movie has lots musical presentation from the opening scene how does it avr performs if you could compare with any budget AVR like pioneer vsx935, onkyo 5100 or even denon x1700, thanks in advance..

Thank you for the kind words. Comments will come as I build our community. I tested that setup with some scenes from that movie and it sounded great but all that also depends on speakers too.

, the receiver is excellent, I upgrade from Marantz 5.1, I wanted to have atmos and 4k passthru, my modest set of speakers are Micca rb42 at the front and 2 Yamaha subs, and 2 Fluance bipolar as rear/side back,and 2 small Onkyo Dolby presence speakers,all that in a small apartment, I use a xtz edge 300 amp for the fronts, I was looking for receiver with preamp outs as the Marantz this model was the best alternative the other brands with preamp out were pricey the calibration ypao works great no issues, I did try a small onkyo 5.2 receiver but the speaker brackets broke and no preouts... Cheers

The pioneer vsx 530 ARC drops out the same way with a LG tv . And the pioneer VSX530 has all of the same options as this one (but has more power per channel. It’s 100 watt x4 instead of 100x2 ) does ,except the pioneer doesn’t have a duel sub out put . Which is no big deal for powered subs bcuz it’s best to daisy chain duel subs anyways. It’s cheaper than the Yamaha also. It’s a older receiver,so it can be gotten for like 2 to 300$ in pond shops . It’s literally the same receiver as this Yamaha but has more power per channel . It’s a better buy imo. 💁♂️

Wow great advice. However that pioneer is a 5.1 channel so you probably will miss the dolby atmos height channel for overhead helicopters and stuff.. looks like a good option though !

@@starazure precisely. You’re right. But Most movies aren’t coded for atmos anyways. Nor does most people have atmos set ups. But if they do …they aren’t talking about doing it on a budget tho. Lol It’s not a 300$ advantage . But just for a 100$ more you can get a vsx 834 that does have atmos with everything mentioned tho. And it’s only 300$.

Just ignore @Chon-c; he's completely full of shit. The Pioneer is NOTHING like the Yamaha. He's too lazy to compare the rear panels, which is all you need to do.

i have this and love it. but just to clarify this thing is not cheap and it's not budget over 700 bucks ain't cheap and i think that anything higher would just give you diminishing returns for audio quality other than more channels/speaker connected

It’s too bad it doesn’t have power out for a sub-woofer.
@starazure Жыл бұрын
Subwoofers with their own power makes more sense though because that way subwoofer power components can be much bigger and punch more power. This receiver like most has 2 subwoofer outputs and relies on subwoofer to provide their own power.
@CoordinatedCarry Жыл бұрын
@@starazure Sure sure, I only mean that I have a powered subwoofer. One that plugs into the wall, but it has a hard switch of on or off so I’ll plug it into the back of my receiver so that the subwoofer powers on when the receiver does. Unless there’s a better solution that I’m unaware of.
@starazure Жыл бұрын
@CoordinatedCarry Oh ok. That's entirely upto the subwoofer. Many subwoofers have a AUTO option that turns it on when it gets a signal and turns off after 30 mins of no signal. I keep mine ON all the time after checking the power consumption during standby in the manual. I guess AUTO power on is a feature to look for when buying subwoofers. Ebay has something called ASD (Active Subwoofer Detector) but you will need to open your subwoofer and modify the circuit which will probably void warranty.

You obviously don't shop recievers. Look at any reciever that goes up to 9.2, 11.2, 13.2 you are spending thousands.
