Mike, this is amazing! I turned many friends on the Yardbirds when I was a kid in the 80s. We even played some Yardbirds songs in our "dorm band" in college. Partly because of your lessons, I've been playing a lot more and even doing some mini-gigs as part of "The Rock Camp Experience" here in Minneapolis. Think I'll suggest doing a Yardbirds camp! You're a terrific interviewer, by the way! And Jim seems like a great chap--you're lucky to have him as a neighbor! Thanks!!!

Nice to listen to Jim's stories. Back when the Yardbirds first hit the US Billboard charts we were so enamored with this brave new sound Within a few short months we had put together a copy band covering all of their recorded material. I think the best lineup was the Jeff and Jimmy co lead guitars.

Mike, congratulations on the historic interview. It's great to hear the stories of those who lived and made things happen in the 60's. I read Eric Clapton's autobiography and the things Jim said have everything to do with it. May there be more interviews like this one. It would be cool if you could make a sound with it! Hugs from Brazil.

I saw the Yardbirds in Dick Clark's Caravan of Stars tour in 1966! I was living on England AFB in Alexandria La. at the time and was around 13. I was beginning to play guitar at the time and had a brand new fender mustang. I beleive this might have been the first show with Page on guitar. The band had a very bluesy sound and very cool look ! I also remember Bobby Hebb climbing the fence with his guitar on his back and Sam the Sham! It still remains a magical memory to me....great interview!

I once had the great fortune to play guitar with Jimmy Page at a mutual friend's birthday bash. It was one of the most embarrassing moments of my life as when it came to doing a guitar break I played the biggest load of rubbish you could ever concoct. Nerves, y'see, one of my heroes...went to pieces. Jimmy just laughed and came up to me at the bar later and just said "I know, I was there once before"...gentleman!!!

Enjoyed this interview. The host has an easygoing style and was prepared. I'll be interested in checking out more. Nice that he gave a nod to the first lead guitarist, "Top" Topham. And although Clapton/Beck/Page are what the vast majority of people are interested about with The Yardbirds, it would have been nice to spend even a couple minutes to ask Jim about Keith and Chris and Paul. They all had key roles. Thanks.

I've idolized the Yardbirds since the '60s and their original albums that I own are still some of my most cherished possessions. Mike, this was so good! And I'm super excited that you are going to do some Jeff Beck stuff! Boy, this all brings back the memories! I had all the yardbird albums as they came out - got Truth as soon as it came out - and couldn't help but notice how led Zeppelin's first album tracked Beck's Truth album in content. I never saw Eric or Jeff, but I saw Jimmy at at the Atlanta Pop Festival a couple months - I think it was - after LZ's first album came out; just 20 feet from the stage. So! Time to get the strat tuned up in prep for your Beck video(s)! All the best! (in French) 🙂

Interesting that Jim heard "Yesterday" during their run at the Hammersmith Odeon in late '64/early '65, which is earlier than that song is said to have been composed! George Martin once said he first heard it in '64, and everyone thought he'd got it wrong, but maybe not.
