Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck were best friends since the age of 11. At Beck's funeral MASS,Page was the one to give Beck's eulogy. British and American rock royalty were there. Jimmy Page was in tears.He told some funny stories about them off the job.And wah many people don't know is that Jeff Beck was an expert mechanic and body and paint dude. He was also a very funny and witty guy.There are many pics of them hanging out together,and Page would be doubled over in stitches over something that Beck said. I read many interviews over the years,and the guy was a stitch!!. R.I.P. Good man and musical genius

The photos of the band showed the last incarnation of the band when Paul Samwell-Smith left the band and Jeff brought Jimmy Page into the fold on bass and then guitar. Couple years later the band quit and Jimmy acquired the name rights of Yardbirds (long story short) and hired a new band and Led Zeppelin was born.

In Oct '68, I went to see The Yardbirds (The NEW Yardbirds, actually). A few months later, they would change the name and change rock music forever. Keith Moon (The Who) is credited with inspiring the name. He supposedly said, "You'll go over like a lead balloon." Led Zeppelin did a fair bit more than "go over."

@@vicprovost2561 Here's the thing I left out. I wasn't all that impressed with this version of The Yardbirds. I was huge fan of Andy Mitchell and this "new" singer didn't "do it" for me. I would later come around, as LZ became my favorite band. As a drummer myself, I was amazed by the drummer (duh!). I would, years later be there as another great band, Iron Maiden got their start. I saw them at The Cart + Horses pub (then located in Stratford) in 1975. They were the new house band. Very loud. It was also at the C+H, where I played (and lost) a game of snooker to the late, great Steve Marriott of Humble Pie. Ah, the memories.

Despite different guitar, amp, modest effects, pick/no pick, recording techniques and a ton of different playing techniques in his arsenal. The greatest of all time. No contest. A very innovative pop hit, even for its time. It got to # 13 in Billboard in 1966. The recently departed Jeff Beck created an unusual mix of Indian scales with a heavy fuzztone on the guitar. This song is both rockin’, raw, and psychedelic. I love Lex’s term for this “rockabilly punk”. British bands like The Yardbirds were trying to do a heavy interpretation of the American blues that they loved (and which a lot of Americans never heard, which made it sound new to them). And of course with all of the “pushing of the boundaries”, that influenced other artists to go further creatively and so on. The mid-sixties saw some of greatest change in popular music and popular culture ever - an extremely exciting time! Unfortunately, a song like this would not make a dent on today’s pop charts.

You are both right. In the 60's we would dance to the rhythm of a coffee percolator. But the psychedelic and frenetic nature of the song relates to being pulled in all directions at once. We wanted to be patriotic and stand against communism, but the South Vietnamese government was corrupt and our side was committing some atrocities at the same time. We wanted to end racism but Dr. King was about peaceful resistance while the Black Panthers were violent. We had peace demonstrations that turned violent. Everything seemed to be a paradox. To paraphrase Buffalo Springfield "Who's right, if everybody's wrong?"

Jeff Beck uses guitar techniques called hammer on(s) and pull offs when playing this riff. This song was on AM radio constantly when it came out. A hammer on is when you pluck a note and then somewhat forcefully press the string creating an instantaneous seamless transition of sound. A pull off is when you are fretting a plucked string and remove your finger creating again an instantaneous seamless transition of sound. Keith Relf was my favorite lead singer for quite some time when I was a kid. He was too cool. Check out the "Heart Full of Soul" live video to see why. Jimmy Page will likely playing lead guitar in that video. A great song from this era that creates a real 60's feel is called "Pushin' Too Hard" by The Seeds. That one was on the radio all the time as well.

Forgot this song had "relativity" in it. I heard "forwards, backwards, square and round" but that's just what works for me. Important to relativity vs. quantum gravity flow, round implies reflective, square implies retro-reflective, to me anyway. Retro-reflection is as "forward-backward" as field reality can be, I suppose. Lowering temperature could be the thing that makes matter more retro-reflective.
@CACBCCCU
@CACBCCCU Жыл бұрын
If you have eight cubes made of silver-coated glass and glue them together for a 2x2x2 block and then cut away each of the eight corners halfway into their joining faces, the result is a corner-cube octet diamond-like omni-retroreflector which is bi-pyramidal (octahedral), a kind of interesting thing especially for resembling the shapes of two bi-pyramidal rubble-piles in space referred to by astronomers as "Bennu" and "Ryugu." It helps if you can visualize these omni-retroreflector forms being able to substantially embody and align together all the nucleons in an entire cold, and/or gravitationally-compressed, object, where gravity information from other such forms is being retroreflected instead of light.

The Rock significance of this song was that it brought more than just the Blues to English Blues-Rock bands. Many of whom picked up the ball and ran with it. The main guitar riff is almost Arabic in influence. In 1966, nobody had ever heard anything like that in Rock/Pop music. It went on inspire a lot of the experimentation with Eastern musics of the Psychedelic Rock era. Jeff Beck always pushed the boundaries of what he was capable of. So you knew the next time you heard him, he wil be pushing it even further.

I just thought that this is some crazy guitar playing, it was early psychedelic dance music. Like from 1965 rather than 1968 which was the peak year and eventual decline of psychedelic music.

Here's the first verse. Cars and girls are easy come by in this day and age Laughing, joking, drinking, smoking 'til I've spent my wage When I was young, people spoke of immorality All the things they said were wrong are what I wanna be (Hey!) Over, under, sideways, down (Hey!) Backwards, forwards, square, and round (Hey!) Over, under, sideways, down (Hey!) Backwards, forwards, square, and round When will it end? (When will it end?) When will it end? (When will it end?)
