I always thought it was weird that the opening music to Mario Bros. (and by extension Luigi Bros.) sounds a lot like part of the song Downtown by Petula Clark. Waiting by Green Day also sounds a lot like this. It's not quite Elec Man vs. Journey but they are rather similar....

love the year of luigi got referenced in super smash bros. with just as adorable dorky nintendo cinnamon roll pit supporting luigi for it(as well as snake defending him being treated with respect even as player 2.)/really love & find very funny in his ultimate classic mode it's implied he's intimidated by bayonetta(find it hilarious imagining the witch with how despite her dark look is surprisingly unless your an angel friendly playfully teasing luigi a bit & could very easily see princess daisy befriending her.:3).

Always liked Luigi and over time that sentiment has only gotten stronger. The fact they made him an incredibly deadly sniper in the Mario + Rabbids games always seemed like such a cool idea. Also the love for Super Mario 3D World rings incredibly true; I love the other 3D titles but until that one none of them felt like a true Mario sequel and more like a spin off.

As usual, your videos are always great, GTV! But the mentioning of the abbreviation period at 4:16 is worth a thumbs up all on its own! That's something that bothers me, as well, how often people pronounce that word without noticing it's the abbreviation. That period is very important. 😤

I was out of the gaming loop in 2013 (and '14) and had no idea bout The Year of Luigi. This perfectly caught me up on what I missed. I'm guilty of emphasing "Mario" rather than "Super." "Bros" instead of "brothers" bugs me, too. I got an N64 and GameCube before considering PS1 and 2 in their respective generations. I never knew how poor they were selling. I played Saturn at my cousins' house, but never had that, Dreamcast, or Microsoft Xbox during their lifespans.

There was a year of the Weegee? That completely passed me by! I did play Bowser Inside Story back then, a fantastic game I still love very much, but it doesn't seem overly Luigi focussed. If anything, the main star in it is Bowser himself, who even turns into a giant kaiju for some fights. Come to think of it, ever since Super Mario RPG, Bowser has become my favorite Mario-series character. Ain't that weird.. Oh wait that game came out way before, guess I mixed it up with a different Mario RPG game. My bad.

THANK YOU so much for putting these “Mario bros” people in their place. It drives me nuts. Started during the GameCube era I think. Nintendo and gamers back in the day never called the game “bros”. It was always Super Mario Bros. (Brothers) and Smash Bros. KZbinrs (this fine channel excluded) started this nonsense. Just call the games by the proper name they were given! I worked in a game store for years and every time a kid or a clueless parent would come in and ask for Smash bros I would correct them and say “oh Smash Brothers? Sure”. It’s infuriating lmao

I don't know why, but as a Mario fan, it's almost in your blood to sort of kind of prefer Luigi more. Just in general, not just playing SMB2. There's just something about Mario's more timid, reluctant, but just as heroic little brother that gives the franchise its heart. I have to admit, while I understood that sprite limitations had Luigi looking like Mario for several games, I never liked when Luigi was just Mario painted green. There WAS a brief period in the merchandising after the first Super game where they'd have Luigi as a pallet swap Mario. Had an old beach towel with that design. No. Luigi simply had to be the taller, slimmer one. Abbot and Costello, Laurel and Hardy, Bert and Ernie. You need that short/tall aesthetic. I'd say that my favorite of the original Mario games IS SMB2 because of how it reflected the divergent design, and you got to play as him without dragging out the second controller.

It's so easy to forget how bleak it was to be a Nintendo fan. The Wii U and 3DS really felt Nintendo was finally embracing what old and long-time fans lived about their games. No more trying to be edgey or lowest common denominator, but solid, charming game design.

One singular minute into the video and you already got it wrong lol. Nah, I’m being too harsh, but you can look this up-The inspiration for Luigi was in the Mario brothers arcade game, they needed a second player and took the green from the Koopa shells and used it to color Luigi’s clothing, and then just came up with a new name for him.

happy 10th anniversary the year of luigi!!!(should do one for warioware/made in wario's 20th anniversary.:3) loved that year for my favorite lovable underdog in gaming(along with tails,sakura kasugano & shingo yabuki.) and while it may of had a few issues like maybe a few more luigi centered games could've been made and definitely wished princess daisy appeared in them (especially dream team when she had artwork of her in the mario & luigi style by it's artist.) enjoyed a lot of it like dark moon & especially dream team/3d world(favorite game purely for princess peach being playable.:3) and loved the internet's celebration for it(my favorite being the harlem shake parody/luigi being wished happy birthday at nintendo ny.:3). also love it got referenced in super smash bros. with just as adorable dorky nintendo cinnamon roll pit supporting luigi for it(as well as snake defending him being treated with respect even as player 2.)/really love & find very funny in his ultimate classic mode it's implied he's intimidated by bayonetta(find it hilarious imagining the witch with how despite her dark look is surprisingly unless your an angel friendly playfully teasing luigi a bit & princess daisy befriending her.:3).

I absolutely loved the video. Luigi is my favorite Mario character, by a very long mile. I was quite disappointed when The Super Mario Bros. Movie reduced him to the brother in distress status, and it really ruined the flick for me (that and Peach kind of being a girlboss, to be honest). the early, mid 2010s were a funky time looking back! I couldn't see them doing this now. I remember it well. I also remember laughing with a friend about how it was funny that luigi was supposed to be celebrated but he was still second fiddle to mario in the way that new mario bros actually showed an 'X' over 'bros' in the title instead of releasing a true game just for him. (and it was on wii u of all things) also, the first solo luigi games still had mario in the title and revolved around mario's absence, even by luigi's mansion it was the same premise. haha. going back to the first smb, you could say he's always sort of been a reskin of mario that took on a life of its own. I wonder if they will ever have plans to do something similar for wario. I have wanted another wario game FOREVER! he's my favorite because he's so greedy and idiotic, it's hilarious.

@GTV-Japan
@GTV-Japan Жыл бұрын
Luigi did not cost Nintendo $400M or anything! Nintendo may have lost money but the root cause was the fact that 80-90 million people bought the Wii as a "wii sports/ fit machine" and nothing else. None of those people cared at all about actual video games which is why the sales numbers went back to their usual level. Sure the switvh is a hot seller because that replaced the 3ds which is where the big N always made money, in part because a family with 3 kids were guaranteed to buy at least more than 1, which can't happen when you're tethered to the family tv
