Many thanks for uploading this classic, the second old LWT programme on punk I've seen recently presented by Janet Street Porter - can't fault her very perceptive analysis of the phenomenon

Janet was a very good journo and was always fair in her views, unlike other journos of the time who just towed the party line. If you can deal with her funny way of tawking Miss PortaH was great lol.

@earinsound Yeah....we seriously need a 1970's style punk revival here in the States. Especially in my area, the Southwest. At the mall, it was filled with teens with asymetrical bangs, black and blonde hair, skinny jeans, and hoodies!>_

"A year ago it was turned from a fading gay disco, The Shagarama," - hilarious, that could describe all nightclubs ever - this is a thoroughly good view - a piece of history.

Punk was invented in the states in the '60s, btw.

actually by The Who in Britain in the 1960's when you think about it, 1st band to use feed back distorted guitars, 1st band to smash the shit out of everything, 1st band to write not just a song but an anthem reflecting the anger of misunderstood youth, full of teenage angst , Keith moons drumming style was copied by all punk drummers. etc... i could go on forever

The first way to jump start a 'punk style revival' is to stop going to the mall, and quit worrying about what people wear, or their haircuts. Shop at thrift stores, cut your own hair, and learn to play an instrument. that is punk.

Punk is someone in prison who lets their arse get rented out for the cons.

what started out as something original and anti-establishment was very soon turned into cookie-cutter fashion and sound by copyists who all look like they were in Nazareth or Queen the day before they became "punks." Yuck. And that's what we still see today in the so-called "punk rock" world--"punks" who are millionaires and record label darlings.

This coming from someone who doesn't know proper English. If you are going to insult someone, try having an understanding of the language first. Thank you.
