The year with the Swedish Royal Family (2017)

SVT has followed the royal family in parties and everyday life, at home and on travel, in 2017. Crown Princess Victoria celebrated her 40th birthday for two days, first in Stockholm and then in Öland. The royal couple got their sixth grandchild, Prince Gabriel, who was baptized on December 1. We will attend a state visit to Indonesia, and see when the king opens a mountain lodge in Abisko, Lapland. Victoria takes Princess Estelle out into the archipelago, to teach her about environmental protection and life in the Baltic Sea.

Definitely my favourite Royal Family. Distinguished but not distant. Victoria has been well guided by her parents. All that is required of a leading example. Sincere intelligent profoundly human. It is no surprise she is much loved by her countrymen. The example was there for their Majesty's, children to follow. And the Country is truly beautiful.

Im into royal families lately. Been watching the britains royal history and such, and this is the first time ive watch about the swedish royals. I must say swedish is way different from britain. Britain is more, glamorous and controversial. While swedish is just simple, down to earth, lovely royal people.

Pius X I couldn’t shake all those peoples bare hands. There’s a lot of gross hands out there! Statistics aren’t favourable for those who don’t wash after the bathroom or even pick their nose. Yikes. It wouldn’t look right if the Queen used antibacterial hand gel. She’d have the yuk feeling until she could do that out of sight lol !

Pius X thanks for correcting about not shaking hands even with gloves on. My apologies. I’m coming from an OCD level and injecting ideas from personal experiences. I travelled a lot and my work give me that eek, ‘bacteria on hands’ eek. Hospital work. I don’t live in the UK and don’t really follow royalty except for a couple of Scandinavian Royalty documentaries just discovered by me. Cheers mate. Struth. Now you know which is my country! 😊

What do you do ? As it is the Queen you are talking about so rudely. Would you like her LIFE. I think not. You can criticise . C; CPB; The Yorks, Kents ,Etc. But Diana' s boys are following her lead to bring a light on essential, subjects. that most people shy away from. They use their position to fund a lot of unsavoury situations. I'm not into royalty at all, but this family really looks so 'normal' and appreciative of their privileges AND put in real effort, going way beyond just symbolical gestures. BTW my name's also Estelle! I'm 62, but still making the most of my life in Chilean Patagonia, climbing volcanoes, and hope the little princess also enjoys lots of adventures as she grows older. I've been to Sweden - lovely country. Hope it doesn't get destroyed by terrorists. Best wishes for your future.

I need to echo the many who have already expressed gratitude for the English subtitles, I know this is a significant amount of work to bring this to us, and it was a thrill when I realized that I would be able to understand what was being said, thank you so much!!! I started watching videos on the Swedish royal family after watching the latest royal wedding, then went back and watched the other two and various christenings and birthday celebrations. I too am extremely impressed with this royal family, especially the Crown Princess. I admire her choice in a husband, she married for love and it is a joy seeing such a happy family life for her and her family and for her siblings as well. I see a great love for Sweden in the Crown Princess, and a great desire to do all she can for her beloved country. I wish her and her family well. It is a treat to be able to watch this documentary, thank you again!!!

If you speak German in addition to English, you should have picked up a couple of words like kronprinsesse, familie, fantastisk, start, springe, lille bror, respektere, balanse, naturen etc. Greetings from an immigrant in Norway ( I am writing the words here in bokmål/norsk).

I speak/understand some German and know a few Swedish words, but I certainly am not fluent in the latter. skrivmachine - typewriter or literally 'writing machine'. barn - child; hovdam - lady in waiting; drottningen - queen; kontor - office. This does have English subtitles.

I love the work the Queen has done with protecting children worldwide and that her daughter is also involved with it. Swedish royals do more for their country than the British ones despite having little to no powers compared to them. Despite being a republican, I still have respect for royalty that's aware of their own privilege, that is humble, and are actually doing something other than just showing up on the balcony of their palace once or twice a year to smile and wave. The woman at the start of the video summed it up perfectly why I respect them: "You notice that the royal children want to be more like ordinary people.". They earn their respect, while the British royal family demands respect.

The nude nail polish isn’t a rule per say, it’s because the Queen doesn’t like coloured nails so the rest of the ladies usually wear nude in deference to her. Also Kate does take off her coat, but sometimes she wears a coat dress which would be inappropriate to take off ahaha! It’s just how different countries work, in regards to tradition. Sweden in a more laid back society socially than the UK and their royal family reflects that.
