I LOVE this. I keep getting kimono vibes when you cross the front over and it makes it look so unique with the oversize and the thinner arms but without it being bat wings. I like it.

from watching the Nordic designers I have seen them use tape for the inside of their front bands. Or you could do a stocking stitch lining that turned in and sewed down

Hi Taylor, your Yell is amazing, thanks so much for showing it to us all. I am totally afraid of the short row shaping and am intrigued by your modified short rows. However, I am a visual learner and am having trouble “seeing” it. Would you be able to explain more or maybe even post a small video of the technique please? I am feeling queasy thinking of short row shaping in colourwork, thanks again . 😳

I totally feel you about visual learning! I’m afraid I won’t get around to a tutorial soon, but long story long, you want to break your yarn at end of each row. When knitting with circular needles, just start knitting from the right edge of the fabric again (right side facing). Instead of working from the first stitch, slip the stitches you would avoid had you done the short row, and stop the same number of stitches before the end. I hope that explains it!

Absolutely love this sweater. So appreciate you dedication a little podcast on your experience with it. I am about to start my first color work sweater, the sipila sweater. Later this year, my plan is to make Marie Wallin’s Honeysuckle sweater. Gobbling up info on her work, as much as I can.

Thank you for sharing your process and for modelling the jacket so well. I love how the oversized version you (serendipitously) achieved drapes and it's inspired me to oversize too. The sleeves really suit you and I may do something similar as whilst I like the mandarin style sleeve, I am sure that your version is more wearable and practical and I always feel better in closer fitting slim sleeves. To stop the collar rolling you could face it with grosgrain ribbon - Marie does suggest it I think. I am wondering though if an I-cord edging would work? I'm so excited about this project as I am hand spinning and hand dyeing from raw fleece to finished garment and am at the dyeing stage. My grey has come out a lovely damson violet grey and I can't wait to get spinning.

Your sweater looks great! I love everything Marie Wallin, I made a similar style pattern of hers that was a kit called Magnolia. I have another kit for Primrose, I've knit Whalsay and hope to knit Ninian from Shetland. And I feel that your podcast is totally about knitting!

Hello! To stop the colar to roll you could sew on the inside of it a light ribbon in the same color

I looove your cardigan and you make me want to cast on one. You gave very clever advice and you color choice is so beautiful. For the collar, how about undoing the BO, knitting a purl row and then a stockinette flap that you would sew at the back. The double fabric should hold straighter I think.
@TaylorOwen
@TaylorOwen 4 жыл бұрын
Josée Labrie that is exactly what I’ll do in future collars... unless I have to repair it soon, I don’t know that I can bring myself to undo it’s finishing because I’ve enjoyed wearing it so much!

This is spectacular! Definitely something to be proud of 🥰 your colourwork and the choice of colours are beautiful. To stop the collar roll stitch some grosgrain ribbon along the edge. Added value is that it hides the steek edges but also should stop it from rolling as adds some weight to it

Hi Taylor. I love your Yell! You said that with the shoulders, instead of purling in colorwork you slipped sts instead of casting them off, leaving them live sts. You then worked the rest of the row... slipped the sts back and knit what was supposed to be the purl row. Did you use new yarn with each row?
@TaylorOwen
@TaylorOwen 2 жыл бұрын
Yea I broke the yarn at the end of each row and wove in a lot of ends tehehehe.

ah man you are so talented. you most certainly are a knitting podcast? why would anyone say that in fact your podcast is what inspired me to not just try knitting again but to keep trying until i finally figured it out which i did, it was after watching your podcast on the Kimono. .. just checked and it was a year ago when i watched it and left a comment hah. But realize now i only liked your Kimono, so won't make my own most likely also am not a person who has a lot of random yarn as i usually purchase yarn for a specific project except on rare occasions.🧶

Wow! Awesome cardigan. Oversized is a look anyway, so I don't worry if I'm going too large. Your armholes totally accommodate and make it look proper sized.

Hi Taylor. This just slid into my feed and I am soooo glad. It’s a beautiful garment and so well thought out. Love it! I really want to knit this now and have a question for you. Do you magic loop the sleeves? And did you ever find a ladder happening if you had to switch to a new colour at BOR? Would love to know your thoughts. ❤

Hi Taylor. Great job on your Yell sweater. I am just finishing the body of mine, I started several years ago, and I have a question. My sweater will be more fitted that yours, my body is bigger, but there is no instruction on how far to seam the shoulders. I am confused . Shouldn’t there be some opening for the neck or does opening the front steek and adding the collar account for that. Thanks in advance. Susan

You would think so, but it seems unfortunately not. I think for this reason it has a bit of an odd fit. It’s a gorgeous design but not all that glitters is gold!

Hi Taylor, I love your interpretation of this jacket. I am thinking of knitting it myself but think the shape you've made is better than the slimmer viersion of the original pattern. 1) Did you knit it in one continous back + front way or seperate back and fronts? 2) are your sides shaped o straight up and down? It almost looks like you did it straight up and down and then just added the sleeves on as rectangular sude pieces. (You do mention that you didn't decrease the wideths to the wrist ends.) I gues just knitting it in straight rectangles would be a lot easier than doing all that shaping. Please advise. Looking forward to hearing from you. Best wishes, Caroline
@TaylorOwen
@TaylorOwen Жыл бұрын
Hi Caroline! I knit the pattern as it was written except for the knitting the sleeves straight. It is knit in the round with a center steek and arm hole steeks. Once I got to the short row shaping, I broke my yarn at each row so that I could continue knitting with the RS facing. 💖
