ABOUT VEDANTA
Vedanta is one of the world’s most ancient religious philosophies and one of its broadest. Based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India, Vedanta affirms the oneness of existence, the divinity of the soul, and the harmony of religions.
ABOUT VEDANTA NY
Vedanta Society of New York is affiliated with the Ramakrishna Order of India. In fact, this is the Order's first Center started by Swami Vivekananda, in 1894. It was a historic event, for the seed of the world-wide Ramakrishna Movement was sown here in New York over a century ago. Swami Sarvapriyananda is the present Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York.

“LUMINOUS BEINGS ARE WE, NOT THIS CRUDE MATTER” as a hardcore Lucas Film fan, when I first saw Rupert Spiras talks on non duality the Luke and yoda scenes came right to my intuition and my hair stood up the entire day.

Advaita Vedanta is really beautiful, nevertheless it shouldn't be confused with Vedanta. It is only one of its sons. Greetings

At 57:00 onwards, where Dr Long talks about Obiwan and Skywalker's fight and his injury ; how the emperor comes and helps him out - I was reminded of Karna and Duryodhana in Mahabharata. Sometimes hard choices are made to uphold dharma, but if we side with the wrong association , we too will have to face the consequences of bad karma. Karna is the ultimate in virtues. He is generous and kind beyond measure, true and loyal friend etc, But because Karna was on the side of the Kauravas who stand for all the misdeeds and adharma , he dies a sad death. Again because Karna is good and virtuous , Sri Krishna shows his Vishwaroopa to only him. Beautifully connected star wars and Vedanta . Thank you. I have never watched Star Wars although I have been aware of the movies. Anyway, coincidence is that my son started watching these movies from November 2020 and now in 1 month he has completed watching all of them, so I have watched it in glimpses . I was able to understand all the connections Dr Long was making. This is so amazing.

52.40 i think the emotion arises partly relating to your experience when you had to become the hero after your father 's mishap.Which led you to Vedanta .

Namaste Dr Long, A very interesting comparison between Vedanta and Star Wars series. Never thought about it and it sure gives me food for thought, to watch it myself. Would also take your suggestion to watch some of the movies you mentioned like " Interstellar" and " Arrival". Thank you so much, it was very good. Z

I found more points of departure from Hindu thought esp at critical and essential moments than similarities. Don't agree with quite a bit of what Dr Long said

Thank you for watching, Varun (if I may). I'm happy to learn from any insights you wish to share. The ideas in this talk are very much a work in progress (as, of course, is the speaker as well).

Dr Long, what a talk. 'I could sense the power of true feeling when you mentioned your experience as a 11 year old that 'luminous beings are we'. When we are pure (as most of us are in our childhood) simple truths make a deeper impress upon ourselves, never to go. And the second idea of 'Try not, Do or do not' is to my mind a key element of Vedanta that at each moment a human being can create a discontinuity with his past and Sanskaras-Vrittis and live and act in complete freedom. The power of deciding and taking control is there every moment. Had that not been the case life would have been tragic, or as Swamiji had said 'If this is true what else matters; if this is not true what do our lives matter' Brilliant sir, many many thanks.

I think this works better leading SW fans towards Vedanta, and not this way around. SW also played an important part in my spiritual journey, but once you get here, you can leave SW behind. At least this was my experience. SW is a more mixed source, Vedanta is a more clean way to look at Existence
