⁠@@shaunclark6682 why curved. The Spartans during the Peloponnesian war didn’t use curved swords. They used a type of gladius called a Xiphos. Though they often used the spear called a dory with a shield instead of the sword. They wore a helmet that actually didn’t have a Mohawk called a Corinthian helmet. Their armour typically didn’t protect the thighs but protected the shins, they wore a red tunic underneath a leather cuirass which probably got replaced by the linothorax by the Persian war.

Just fyi, DS2 is in fact connected to DS1, the connections are just vague because of how long it’s been since the age of Fire in Lordran. Just as nobody remembers the kingdom before Drangleic, except maybe for Olaphis as he was from the previous kingdom, by the time DS2 takes place, nobody will remember Drangleic. Even by the time the old lady narrator from the beginning of the game starts telling us the story of Drangleic, she immediately assumes you haven’t heard of Drangleic. There’s themes of humanity, stories, and kingdoms falling and being forgotten because of the Undead Curse in DS2, and Lordran was no exception. They are apart of the same story, just ages apart from each other.

6:58 the idea is that in the grand scheme of the trilogy, Drainlec is one of hundreds of civilizations that have risen and fallen in the cycle of flame. As such, while DS2’s themes are different they do inhabit the same world, shown in how the primal bonfire bosses on NG+ or with bonfire ascetics have the souls of each of the four lords. 1 and 3 are more overtly connected, as 3 follows plot lines from the first game more noticeably

Plus it’s the finale of a trilogy, I’d rather it refine what works and make a satisfying conclusion than try to throw new ideas in and possibly fail

For the description of the Yorgh's sheild ring: The word Miasma is also used in the opening cutscene of DS1. "Nito unleashed a miasma of death and disease" In that context miasma is like a wave of destruction.

I loved using power stanced pike and partisan. The two attacks are obviously good, but it's also fun to stop the powerstance and hit them with the pike r2, which is a sweep attack, when they try to roll around you. Very dangerous build

I know this is way late but I recently discovered your vids while cleaning up the remaining DS2 achievements I was missing. My favorite backstab is the lance animation but on larger enemies (I think it might be the same as the spear class), specifically the Alonne Captains is where I’ve seen it most. You kick them to their knees, punch them in the back, and then stab them. It’s epic 😁

Just want to put it out there, there are two Heide knights that have a 100% drop for the heide spear, one in the gutter and one in a cell at sinners rise. Though i think the one in the gutter only has the 100% drop for the spear on NG+, not really sure, it's been a while since mys last DS2 run. :)

By the way, if you kill Titchy Gren (that small thing that offers you the pvp covenant after the chariot) you can buy her chestpiece from the hag in majula, it gives more souls than Maughlin's robe. His gives 5% while Gren's give 10%

Dark souls 1 and 2 are connected. The ds2 NG+ special souls are the lords souls. The Old Witch Soul is the Witch of Izalith, the Old Dead Ones Soul is Nito, the Old Paledrake Soul is Seath, and the Old King Soul is Gwyn. Ds2 takes places so far after Ds1 that all the buildings and places of Ds1 have been lost to time, but Ds3 kinda screwed up that idea. That is what the Ds2 devs intends tho, as you can read in the item description of the Lingering Dragoncrest Ring: “A ring used long, long ago in a land that existed where Drangleic is now.”

If you're trying for this build and don't wanna use normal spear, grab a lightning winged spear from mimic in the gutter. Its so much better and easy just use talisman on mimic.

I’d be curious to check a double/powerstanced Avelyn run, I was never lucky enough to get two drops on a PC, I imagine you’d shred the base game by levelling hp and endurance, while finding the DLC ranged defenses just a tiny bit problematic

I would like to share something also for next time against Executioners Chariot that I hadn't thought before in my past playthroughs. Throw two alluring skulls on the floor for the sceletons, once for each necromancer. It is so funny. They hunt them and you can kill the necromancers without disturbances. I remembered what I did in Elden Ring dungeons

Yorgh’s spear is one of those weapons that I never personally powerstance because then you miss out on the unique parts of the moveset, though sometime I would recommend trying some dual wield combos! Not entering the powerstance actually but just having two unique weapons in either hand that swing independently depending on trigger press. There are some really cool combinations, Yorgh’s and Sa tier’s Spears being two weapons that I think work really well when paired with a lot of other weapons because when one handed they retain very unique sets. Sorry for the word dump, love these videos man

For future reference, Fume Knight can't phase 2 if his big sword is glowing. It glows after the overhead smash he does to try to heal punish. Using nearly any item like knives or life gems will make him try to punish. Dig the build and the vibe. Keep it up👍

I highly recommend using the Ruler's Sword next. It's got a decent strength and dex scaling at C, and it grows stronger when you're holding between 300k and 1M souls. You lose the strength and dex scaling if you infuse it in any way, but it's your choice what you wanna do with it. As for the souls, just farm Giant Lord a few times.

DS1 really made appreciate spears more. Always used swords and magic. Decided to run a spear build as the dex weapons I had at the time weren't cutting. Really enjoyed the play style and you can get kooky with invaders, specially with heavy spears like Dragon Slayer and Yorgh's

6:28 That heide knight drops a version of the heide spear called the heide lance, it scales with STR and faith, it's a 100% guaranteed drop, it drops from him specificly. The only downside is that if he dies anywhere towards the ledge or falls the heide lance is 100% guaranteed to plument all the way down to hell. That heide knight respawns once every new playthrough so bonfire ascetics are useless. Oh and he only drops it once so no ng+ to get a second one, he will only drop the mask.

That Fume Knight fight... I've always disliked spears as weapons but this one looks really good. That double R1 attack tears everyone including DLC bosses. In my spears playthrough I mostly used Partizan and basic spear. But then I got to Yorgh's Spear and it kinda side tracked the whole thing. Because instead of being pokey-pokey I started spinning like a madman xD Probably my second favorite weapon in the game.
