The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

This must have warmed the hearts of grandparents everywhere. With huge societal changes going on at the time, they could find solace in this squeaky clean presentation.

It's still hard to believe that life was like this when my parents were around back then. My mom was 13 and my dad 11 in 1967. My dad passed away last year at age 67 from congested heart failure. I miss him 😢 My mom now is 70 and just sent her this to her. I know she will remember.

I’ll be 67 this Fall so I’m about your parent’s age. It’s sad how our society has become so decadent and degenerate is such a short period of time. You could see the changes coming right at the time of this video. The changes happened slowly so most people did not notice. Now it’s accepted to curse whenever you want. Do whatever you want, there are no standards of behavior and the belief in God is practically gone. We are at the precipice that either we return to traditional values, Balkanize into separate countries or something much worse.

Thanks for this excellent rendering of an unsung writer and band director that was the leader of George Burns and Gracie Allen radio show. Probably never see music like this again, but nice if they tried…😊! Have a great day!

Back in 1982, I did stage lighting for a YA summer stock production of "Pirates of Penzance" in Michigan. It was a fun group to work with.

Had Vicki Lawrence left the group by this time? I know she is visible in the movie. It's a shame the Young Americans don't perform anymore...now they lead music camps.

I believe so. This performance is from October, 1967. The Carol Burnett Show had already made its debut.

I think this was the same group Jim Morrison tried out for. Apparently...the leather pants and swearing were frowned upon by the other group members so he stayed with The Doors.
