This was a great format I learned Synchro and Xyz in this format. Mermail, Inzektor, and Dragon Rulers are some of the decks I played here. Fire Fist was tier 1 here too. So great you covered this Era. Thank you.

jeff said in an interview that people didn't know what his cards did, they spent a lot of time reading them and would like torrential, bottomless, warning stuff at the wrong times. probably after this people rad the stuff and figured out to save warning or bottomless for grandsoil. sometimes he would summon and activate a card then get warninged then have the exact right amount for grand soil and just push in huge damage. That could be a Huge swing like 2k from warning 2k from the revived card and 2.8k from grandsoil. He said beast, and barkion locked up games, the fusion was broken and made him gain a ton of life, and he only ever dropped grandsoil when he knew he could go for game after backrow was cleared to end games quickly and he could black rose then drop grandsoil and do huge pushes or summon barkion then drop grandsoil. he said his build was bad and would side out a bunch of the lesser cards like the miricle synchro fusion.

I've missed the past few of these so cheers for giving me a reason to rewatch the whole history again. I wish I played back in past era's as modern Yugioh just isn't for me and searching for people to play through random legacy formats consistently to really try to learn and enjoy them isn't really feasible. Id love to do a progression playoffs thing but I don't have many friends, let alone ones into Yugioh :/

I feel like after this format that’s when the game started to go down hill, I miss older formats like the Gx era aka trooper and perfect circle as well as Edison. Miss the old days

"Where it went wrong" basically. Zexal era was really bad - 2nd worst era (worst one would be Vrains). Introduction of gatekeeping archetypes to weed out older decks, paired with powercreep in favor of just the new summoning mechanic, thereby dictating what to play. This was the first time interest in the game dwindled for me.

I want to make 1 critical comment about this video and others you have made please stop reading the effect of everything. It's kinda annoying and you don't even read it all. You forgot to mention rank 3 xyz sea dragon can only summon lv 4 or lower monsters. So it your going to read them all out explaining in simple words what they do with and xyz extender from banished of lower level monsters or a pop on your turn for other cards.
@LabMatt7 ай бұрын
This is a comprehensive breakdown of what the game itself was like at the era, if he stops to read every single card effect the video will not only get unnecessarily long but it will deviate from the topic at hand. If you really want to know what each and every card does down to the smallest details, you clearly have internet access, you can do it in your own time
@josepharmstrong68527 ай бұрын
@@joeshmoe9204 Yea but he could summarise without reading it word for word. It's dry and hard to listen to. Yu-Gi-Oh! effect text is written in a specific way such that it tells the players everything the card does. Cost or does it target is it an activated effect I could go on. This is not all relevant when explaining why a card was good or bad in the specific period of time we are looking at. Calling evilswarm exciton knight a board wipe is clear enough you do not need to read it word for word. This is my only point love the rest of the video and the content is class, but I always find myself skipping the cards just because it's so dry.
@MegaMachiOnline7 ай бұрын
I like it, since errata exists. Saves me time from looking it up. But considering how long the videos typically are, it’s not like a few minutes in an hours long video will kill ya.
@josepharmstrong68527 ай бұрын
@@MegaMachiOnline No it's just a masive time suck to a video which is very long 3hours. Count the number of sets its about 12 ish a few structure decks 5-6 minutes for each and hey presto it's just over a 3rd of the video. So an hour NOT a few minutes. It just make me want to skip to the actual good bit the discussion of the format at the time.
@MegaMachiOnline7 ай бұрын
@@josepharmstrong6852 i don't agree it's a recap video about an entire era of a card battle game, where just saying "this was meta at the time" without setting the perspective nor elaborating on why key cards and themes were good would make it a true waste everybody knew the recap was 3 hours long before clicking on the video, so to call it a time suck is pretty harsh when you made the time to watch it, presumably to learn in the first place notably, each era lasts about 3 to 4 years on average, so his *"Yugioh Yearly Recaps"* would probably be more digestible. although the playlist is missing some videos that can be found by using the channel's search bar, like 2012 and the *"Retro Retrospective"* ones, which are shorter by comparison. they're there.
