The "Z to A" challenge BEGINS! First up: ZOE! - League of Legends - Grubby

I feel like nobody has properly explained WHY you want to Q -> Q -> R (and then maybe flash) instead of Q -> R -> Q. The Q actually travels up to its maximum range from where you currently are, so as long as it's still flying you can continue to extend the range. If you Q -> wait a second -> Q again while walking towards the target, you can continue walking while the Q is in flight, then R just before the Q reaches its max range to extend it further. Thus Q -> R -> Q has a shorter maximum range, AND the projectile will reach the target more slowly/with more time to react because it's still so far away when you start your R.

Tbh, I thought the whole idea with Q-Q-R was to hide it more than anything. Like, by the time you appear visible to the enemy through the R portal, Q is a split second away from actually landing, so there's very little time to dodge.

Just for further clarification - You should activate R as Q is flying right next to Zoe (so that with the R delay it doesn't travel out of range). Also it gives the enemy a lot less time to react because if you Q-Q in fog and then R the enemy has to guess where Q will pop up because it comes at the same time as Zoe

You farmed (and overall played) really well on Zoe, but when you have an easy lane match-up against a lategame hypercarry like Kassadin, that is sadly not enough. You also need to keep that hypercarry down as much as possible by going aggressively for trades, chunking them out, zoning them off of CS as much as possible etc.

He kept very good farm going for most of the laning phase, that is more than can be said for most league players (we all like to pretend we're diamond+, but most players don't even play ranked).

Otherwise he will only have a vague idea of what capabilities and in game goals/powerspikes the champs he is playing against have. But yeah. Grubby, to see the range of your spells with quick cast enabled, just check the box that says "enable quick cast with range indicator". You can hold the key and will see the range, and just release to cast, or right click to cancel.

I know it's a bit late now, but it's better to press the second part of your Q before you R in, it's much more surprising than having it appear a second after, and is faster for chasing enemies that are running away. Fun video as always!

For anyone who wants to play Zoe, don't go tp it doesn't synergize well with your w, any other spell is better. With ignite you can go w lvl2, walk up to them, ignite them, auto them, q auto q auto, flash after them, bonus if they use any spell pick it up and use it and it's a guaranteed kill and lane won. You just have to wait for your three orbs to proc before using the next spell.

I mean, it's true that Zoe as a champion gives up/sacrifices more than any other midlaner when she takes teleport, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's always *wrong* to take teleport. Also, do keep in mind that Grubby is playing quickplay, not draft, which means that he never knows what matchup he will play against, so *even if* it's true that zoe should always take a combat spell over teleport, he can't actually pick the right combat spell for the matchup. And if you're in a lane where you want cleanse, for example, you would prefer to have teleport over ignite.

@@ELYESSS If ignite is correct 90% of the time, then yeah, randoming ignite is probably best. But if, say, ignite is correct only 70% of the time, and exhaust/barrier/cleanse/ghost is correct 30% of the time, and the 30% of the time that you wouldn't want ignite, you'd rather have tp, then it's still better to random ignite to maximize your winrate, but it's better to random tp to minimize nongames, which does matter for a person who uploads most of his games to youtube. The stats show that the best summoners are ignite, ghost, and cleanse, and everything else sucks. Which is not necessarily surprising. But still, my point was that this strategy is quickplay specific, so ranked stats don't capture the same drafting environment.

because in league mages don't naturally get stronger auto attacks like they do in dota (int gives stronger autos even in the case of mage characters) you should just use a spell to secure cannon.

Dota taught me not to trust spells on catapults and banner creeps because of 80% MR, it’s confusing me catapults in LoL can “just” be nuked with a spell haha. Thanks for the reminder

I wouldn't say "should" because then you have no spell to harass or trade back if the opponent engages. If it's sidelane or you know no enemy is nearby it's fine otherwise but better to get comfortable using autos

Not reading the most important comments. Your q2 extends range where you are. So it is always better to use q1 then aim and cast q2 then use r or flash. It is harder to react and less time to dodge for the enemies.

Zoe is one of my favorite champs. The way you can use vision, timing, and fake outs to get the better of your opponent as a burst or poke mage makes her playstyle totally unique.

What a tremendous Champ. I can see this being a Grubby main. Lots of depth, lots of fun. Zoe demonstrates a strong contrast to DotA's game design, so I think characters like this will be naturally attractive to players who like League for its deep character expression.

This was a neat suprise. Zoe is one of my favorite champions and trust me a good Zoe can absolutely terrify the enemy team. There are a lot of small things in her kit that good Zoe can use to thrive and get in their face without putting yourself at too much risk. Or you can time a perfect bubble snipe over the wall and one shot with your q when you hop over. There is a lot to think about when you are trying to set up your q, but if you enjoy the champ enough the combos become pretty fluid. Try setting up your q and firing it off before you jump to get a shot that will be harder to dodge because it comes faster. Love watching you play man. Hope you play some more Zoe. Grubby don't turn off quick cast manually, you can turn on indicators for the quick cast (it's just below in the controls tab). Now you have the superior quick cast and see ability range and stuff if you hold it.

@@adas0746 Yeah but there is always going to be some delay, it makes a difference. The reaaal way is to have normal cast bound to shift modifiers so if you want an indicator you have it that way.

come backs are actually very common in league in any rank below master or so. Shutdowns and objective bounties are a huge comeback swing, and below masters rank and even beyond it you can just play safe and farm and wait for an enemy to make a mistake. I would say top lane is the one lane where you can really just doom your game in 4 waves, since it is generally a 1v1 even later into the game when toplane is supposed to hold sidelane. You do need to have some tools available to be able to set yourself up for a comeback. If your comp has no wave clear champs, then yeah, you kind of put yourselves into a pickle by having no options in case you fall behind. But if you have 1 or 2 wave clear champs, you can really stall out a game.

Just a tip: It's fun to figure out ways to maximize the distance for your Paddle Star (Q). You've figured out some so far. If you want to be aggressive, you can add flash into it too. If you land your E before hand, you can one shot squishy champs from the midgame onwards.

Grubby a nice tip. If something in league goes through half of the terrain, it will extend its range to outside the terrain. Stuff like zoe R, syndra Q,W and E can be extended by casting it nside a wall 😊

The reason there's less come backs in league is because the losing team is commiting mistakes and are not noticing it and they get to depressed to play well, if the losing teams stays positive and tries to play safe them many games will have comebacks Most times comebacks revolves around finding what your team is making wrong and trying to avoid it, if you're losing TFs stop forcing them, if 2 persons never help on dragon/baron ask the to help. On this games you guys were ignoring drags, grubbys, etc. and dying a lot on 1v1/2v2 but you've made some good plays as a team So forcing TFs near objectives and avoiding 2v2 could've been good overall. On high elo comebacks can happens in a single TF, because of bounties even a losing tf (4 dead your team, 3 dead on theirs) can give your team 3x more gold than what the enemy team will get. Not dying overall and staying positive is the best way to have a chance at comebacks. Plus, quickplay makes easier to surrender (only needs 3 yes, instead of the usual 4), so its harder to have a comeback there.

You say that you don't see a way for comebacks, but then you continue to throw yourself into enemy heroes when you're under 50%, they're at 100% life and 2 levels over you. Feeding them is NOT the way to come back, playing safe and farming is.
